We can fuck or drink or write or think

they're all good options.

I'd reply with my current score on the above events but it's too depressing.

That leaves at least three options.

It's ironic. The once-obscure 1990s RPG series that spawned this community is now, globally, far larger ever.

And yet we're quieter than at any point since...the Interplay message boards?

If by former glory you mean having more than a dozen posters, the solution is fairly simple, if not entirely practical.

Every member would simply post on the bethesda/obsidian forums as much as possible, contribute relevant posts, preferably with information and/or insights that people find meaningful, and simply keep a link to this site in the signature with something insinuating that this is a fallout site....which, well, it sort of isn't anymore.

The thing is, the internet has enough "Post whatever, we're all just people" forums. Too many, really. The reason the UV was so successful in the first place was, even though other stuff was posted, we were a fallout message board. There was common ground that drew everybody together, and the off-topic posts were just an extension of the people who posted here and joined *because* it was a fallout site.

I disagree, Douglas!  Actually, I think the charm of the village was that somehow it grew out of the gritty posts of a video game message board.  For some inexplicable reason, a lot of people congregated in an imaginary place and spoke about unreal things.  Also, I constantly wanted to sleep with every female.  Sorry.

Exactly, Brian. It grew out of it, but it *started* with that. That's what drew all of the initial members, and then it grew organically from there.

There's just no reason for any random schlubb to just decide this is the place to be.

You need a hook to get them here, and then it can progress from there.

I think it's also hard because when I first joined the village I was what, 15? And the Internet was pret new to me so I had tons of time to waste just surfing around. And this board is/was riotously funny. So I think we probably should start some memes or something.

Srsly, what we need is to come up with a hilarious thing, and then make it an Internet meme. Examples include hipster ariel, tomhanksimals, sad Keanu, etc.

A meme could work, sure, but as long as its not the shotgun method people are using these days.

I think we're lacking in the activities section, things that make people want to check in every day. The internet has evolved beyond the message board collection it once was, so people need something more engaging to really pique their interest. It's sad, yes, but people's time seems to get filled up pretty quickly these days.

Or something. Perhaps a huge influx of activity in general might work, but getting that to happen might require more effort than anyone is prepared to put in.

*Saunters in from the wastes*

*Stride interrupted by need to dodge a dust devil*

*Is noticeably shitty about the effect it has on what was supposed to be a tastefully understated but poignant entrance*

Frell.

Ok, you want the Village to thrive again? Here's my two caps:

1.  Bring back the Rat (oh yeah baby).

2.  We need a campaign.  I propose: "Get the village into Wasteland 2".  Surely Brian Fargo remembers us from the FO1 & 2 days.

2a. Someone mentioned a new game might breathe new life into the board... Wasteland is as close to FO as you're ever going to get - use it!

Ok. That's as much work as you're going to get out of me today.

I quite like that idea, I'll shuffle over next chance I get.

But maybe you should work together to pledge $1 million to the cause? You guys could run around with crowbars beating up old ladies and taking $5 from their cold dead hands! Then you will have a new reputation of "The guys and galls that made Wasteland 2 possible!" :D
