The bad penny thing seems to have pretty deep roots but the most logical explanation is that it refers to a counterfeit coin, when they entered circulation you would want to get rid of one quickly bug with a large number in circulation it was common to get one back.  It seems to be used for someone who is in some way costly to have around bug appears at inopportune moments, bad debt hence bad penny?

Jesus, I can't believe this board is still up.  :o Was surfing the 'net and something randomly triggered a memory connected to the UV today, thought I'd check and see. Whoa.

Good to see the good ol' Village of the Unwashed is still alive and kic- well *looks around* okay, maybe not kicking, per se... *takes a second look* and perhaps not quite as alive, either... but, still here! Hope y'all are having a good one.
