Question: Unwashed Village: The PC Game
« on: April 05, 2011, 11:07:47 PM »
I've been brewing on a game for a while now.. And I've finally gotten the time to start working on it again.

Sadly, it seems that many Villagers have dissapeared in the mean time, but I'll ask those that are left these questions three:

1. Does anyone mind if I create a PC game using the Unwashed Village as a central motiff?
2. Does anyone mind if I use their alter egos in it?

EDIT: I had originally written my plan for the game here, but I thought it would be a lot more fun to get everyones opinions.

3. What would the game The Unwashed Village be like?

I want to make a game in the spirit of the Unwashed Village at it's peak. Now, in order to keep this within the realm of possibility it, can't be World of Warcraft or Fallout 3. Otherwise, please brainstorm with me..

An Unwashed Village themed tower defence game might be the way to go.  Keeping waves of spammers from reaching the Bastard Bar.  Tangerine throwers, pointy sticks and a Phantom Flan Flinger.  You could have superweapons too, like The Cow Suit.

If it weren't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all
Gloom, despair, and agony on me

And we figured she had class like the Vanderbilts
'Cause we had heard for years how she was so well reared
How was we to know they meant the way she was built."

please brainstorm with me..

The overriding premise is that you have to kill stuff.  It's no fun unless you kill stuff.

You have to be able to tell the Good Guys (=Insane Villagers) from the Bad Guys (=slimy, dark aliens).

You have to have a unique special power (can vary from game to game).

The aliens should fight differently/have different weapons/look different/etc.  Imbalanced combat is 'good'.

There can be a few 'traitors' in the Village; innocent little girls would be the most fun but this could vary randomly.  Perhaps the game could (partly) be about uncovering the traitor before everyone gets Plagued.

And... you have to kill stuff.

Oh... and if you kill another Villager accidentally (you mistakenly thought he/she was the traitor), there would be... repercussions.

Don't forget about killing stuff.

when i was attempting to write village based stuff i always imagined a old west sort of town.

to me there seems to be a need for a deep dark secret of the village's origins that needs to be uncovered.
or there's a bomb in darkfox's lab that no one really cared to search out but will destroy us all.
In case of rapture, can I have your car?

I've wanted to see for a long time a combat system, which I call the 50/50 system. It's very intricate, with all kinds of attributes, skills and stuff that you can tinker with, but basically you always have a 50/50 chance of winning or losing.

On a little more serious note, I'd like to see a combat system that isn't hitpoints based. Meaning, that you can't take several bullets or axe blows to your face without flinching 'cause ur so damn tough. :)

In the end, the whole village would have at least 50/50 chance of either turning into mutants or dying from radiation poisoning.

I'd like a patch that puts the UV random encounter (with an expanded roster) into Fallout 3 or New Vegas.  Some actual interaction and maybe new missions would be cool too!  For instance, the Player, Doomsie and Hoopy Frood must venture deep into Super Mutant territory to the Super Duper DUPER Mart to recover the last jar of prunes in the Capitol Wasteland and bring them back to Village Elder Bluecross.  You could use existing sprites and stuff for this.  Voices could be text-only for simplicity's sake unless you REALLY felt like getting audio from us or others, or maybe the UV sect in the Capitol Wasteland has converted to Mimism, a religion based around mime worship.

Edit: Don't forget a new schematic for the Tangerine Cannon.

I've always heard that the deep dark secret behind the Village's origins still can be found bragging around the internet about what a bad-ass he was for causing trouble on Interplay's message boards 14+ years ago.

Thanks guys.. I might just steal a bunch of your ideas :)

Anyway, I haven't decided finally on the genre of the game yet, but my ideas seem to be circling around either a tile-based (Zelda, fallout) RPG or a strategy game (tower defense meets sim city). So all of your ideas are certainly valid.

One idea to limit the scope of the game would be to start out building the combat part (for example a tower defence game). This would allow me to focus on the most central part of the game and have a limited, but playable game before the full game is complete.

The only think I'm worried about in regards to creating a non-rpg or adventure game is that I won't be able to have all the references and humor that I want.

Keep you ideas coming, they are completely awesome for inspiration!

1. Sound awesome!
2. No, go ahead, but I don't have much of an alter ego lol
3. Must have Aldytech in it, maybe that's the bomb in Darkfox's lair that is threatening to blow us all up or turn us into Mutant/Darkclaws.

4. Must have a dog. :)

1. Sounds good.
2. Sounds good.
3. Sounds good.
All right, I’ve been thinking, when life gives you lemons, don’t make lemonade! Make life take the lemons back! Get mad! I don’t want your damn lemons! What am I supposed to do with these? Demand to see life’s manager! Make life rue the day it thought it could give Cave Johnson lemons! Do you know who I am? I’m the man whose gonna burn your house down – with the lemons! I'm gonna get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down!

Sounds good, though I admit that I am not a real fan of tower defence games...

oh, come on... rpg elements are in everything these days.

you could have little villager npcs wandering about doing random things... eg: once you build the bar, and there are enough npcs in it, shouting comes from inside... if you build a garden a couple o npcs come up and start arguing about what to grow - tea, coffee, tangerines, horrible turjanish experiments... when you build the church, and the bc npc and a female npc get into proximity of it, bc drools and the girl pokes him with a pointy stick.

see? humour opps a plenty.
