Semi-drunken dinner post
« on: March 07, 2014, 03:21:46 AM »
We haven't really had a drunken post in a long time so I thought I'd give it a shot.  OK, I'm not really really drunk as in falling-down drunk or blindly oblivious drunk but I do have a pretty good buzz.

My wife is gone for most of the day (including dinner) so I'm pretty much alone (except for Sophie) so sometime in the late afternoon I decided I needed to finish the remaining third of the King Estate Pinot Gris.

sidebar:  King Estate makes some of the finest Pinot Gris in Oregon (and thus possibly the world) and their high end wines are unsurpassed.  The low end ones are still pretty fine; I happened to have a mid-range one and so, of course, I couldn't leave any to waste.

Pretty soon Sophie reminded me it was dinner time (it's amazing how handy dogs can be!) and I just happened to have a few fresh cut ribeye steaks which are absolutely my favorite.  So, after a rub with sea salt, pepper, chili powder and garlic salt I threw one onto the hot frying pan.   I also got ready a couple of Ciabatta bread toasts because there is not much finer tasting toast than not quite burned Ciabatta bread soaking in the steak juices.

I pulled out the medium-rare ribeye from the frying pan, poured a generous glass of Oregon  Utopia Pinot Noir 2009, a particularly fine vintage.  The steak was very slightly oversalted; sea salt PLUS garlic salt fooled me a bit; next time I will use garlic powder instead of garlic salt.

Also, as it turns out, I played a couple on online games of Ticket to Ride.  As it turns out, I can play this game pretty damn well in a semi-drunken stupor as I won twice in multi-player games.  Of course, this probably says more about the idiots who think they know how to play than any innate skills I may have (or used to have).

It will be interesting to see how many times I have to edit this for typos, spelling, grammar errors, etc.

Anyway, very good day!

((so far I count seven+ edits but I tend to lose track easily...)

After re-reading the above in a mostly sober state, I must say that next time I will be fully drunk when posting drunk posts.  The preceding was dull, not really funny and who gives a crap about me having steak and toast for dinner.

*slaps self on side of head*

Idiot!

I have a moscato, pink moscato and pino gregio. I have to drive tonight. I'll use the excuse that it's shutter home and gallo family. Yes, I'm cheap.
In case of rapture, can I have your car?

*hangs head in shame...*

[edit]
Wait!  I invoke Clause 417 subsection 3 paragraph 892: "a Drunk Post (see Chapter 1) may be legally edited if at the time of editing the blood alcohol content of the editor is
a) within +/- .01% of the blood alcohol content at the time of the original posting, and
b) the blood alcohol content of the editor between the time of the original post and the time of the edit(s) has at no time even closely approached the legal definition of almost half-way sober."

Ha!

Yo, that was a horrible semi-drunken post.  You kept yourself totally under control!  The only possible use of booze is to let us shed our inhibitions, if you're gonna keep your mojo under control, you might as well drink lemonade
I fall and I leap and
I'm freaking out
Nowhere near my place and I
Know that they've seen me now

Penance doesn't include self-flagellation, does it?

I think it involves getting hold of some Tennants super or some other potently strong but irredeemably disgusting lager and "doing it properly" till you pass out 200 miles from home in a drag outfit after blogging in increasingly hysterical terms about how you plan to overthrow some imaginary power.... like the Tories.

Now I'm reminded of a friend-of-a-friend story

Friends martial arts instructor makes wine. Once upon a time he made banana wine and gifted some to his brother in law who lived down the block. Phone call the next day: "do you know where our car is?" Apparently they ended up 2-3 hrs away because you can turn banana peels into cheap lsd somehow
In case of rapture, can I have your car?
