List your recommendations!

I just watched: The Five People You Meet in Heaven.

Based on best-selling author Mitch Alborn's book, this moving TV drama centers on Eddie (Steven Grayham and Jon Voight), who dies at the age of 83, uncertain that he was able to save a girl from a horrible accident and doubting that his life had any significance. In heaven, Eddie meets five souls who, through flashbacks, show him how he affected the lives of others in amazing ways

It was a TV movie but it's a very good one. I cried like a Frenchman while watching it.

Will I get Night Owl points for quitting but not as much for getting fired?
Will I still be a member of the Owl's Pals? I'd hate to turn in my card. It's got a real owl feather under the lamination and everything.

Night Owl: Oh, indeed. I quit many a job ...better than being fired. You can keep your card... in fact, you get double points for quitting!

I just watched the newer version of Pride and Prejudice again (Keira Knightley, Judi Dench, Donald Sutherland) and it's a very good movie IMO.

Been watching alot of movies recently, on account of the immobility of course.  Here is the best of what I have watched:

Shame - Ingmar Bergman
Brazil - Terry Gilliam
Mystery Train - Jim Jarmusch
Belle de Jour - Luis Bunuel
The King of Comedy - Martin Scorcese (I found this one particularly good)
Nashville - Robert Altman

I have been enjoying a great deal of Fellini as well.  Amarcord was fantastic.

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang - dark, funny noir spoof. Lots of people getting shot in the head, Val Kilmer as a private detective named Gay Perry.

Great movie. But Corbin Bernsen was rather weak I thought.
All right, I’ve been thinking, when life gives you lemons, don’t make lemonade! Make life take the lemons back! Get mad! I don’t want your damn lemons! What am I supposed to do with these? Demand to see life’s manager! Make life rue the day it thought it could give Cave Johnson lemons! Do you know who I am? I’m the man whose gonna burn your house down – with the lemons! I'm gonna get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down!

The only movie that I've seen recently that is worth mentioning was The Rage In Placid Lake.  It's a typical, quirky, low budget Aussie flick.  It is essentially a teenage angst story that highlights the complete ineptitude of the parents involved.  I wasn't really expecting much (Aussie movies tend to be a real hit-or-miss affair) but this one surprised me.  Maybe some residual angst from my own teenage years may have something to do with it, but I really enjoyed it.

I've been mildly disappointed in the major cinematic releases of late (transformers, 300, Ghost Rider, etc).  I attribute this to some actual quality writing for TV over the last 5 years or so.  West Wing, Sopranos, Battlestar Galactica, Dr Who (Tennant even beats Tom Baker imho), Weeds, and now Torchwood.  I was also completely smitten by Heroes, however, I wouldn't put it in quite the same class as the others I've mentioned here.  Oh, and I'm a complete sucker for the totally forumulaic House and NCIS (Abbey appeals to the most basic of male instincts in me).

Ummmm.... What was I saying again? Oh, that's right.... I haven't been watching many movies lately because I've been trying to keep at least a month ahead of Australian TV's ridiculously lethargic broadcasting schedule for these shows (we only saw the final episode of West Wing in April this year).  So, kudos to TV for raising expectations.

you have good taste.

If you haven't yet, I recommend "The Virgin Spring" and "The Seventh Seal" (both Bergman)

Fellini is exceptional as well. 8 1/2 is probably his best (although a bit surreal.)
