I have an archieve of two older boards backed up on my computer. My dream is to try to convert the data to the new version of the forum and merge it with this one, but that is not as easy as it sounds.

An alternate plan could be to install two more databases and run them alongside the new board as readonly.

I think the read-only databases are the way to go for the time being.  That's served us well in the past.  You could always attempt a more cohesive merging later on.  At least this way, we have an accessible record of our history.

the internet wasn't full of fanfiction yet.

Confused. Does Thanatos want me to post my... I mean someone else's Frodo / Sam fan fiction I wrote... uh found?
Will I get Night Owl points for quitting but not as much for getting fired?
Will I still be a member of the Owl's Pals? I'd hate to turn in my card. It's got a real owl feather under the lamination and everything.

Night Owl: Oh, indeed. I quit many a job ...better than being fired. You can keep your card... in fact, you get double points for quitting!

Two ideas have been presented:

1. Hide in the past and history of the UV
2. Come up with something new

I like second one.  Think about why we're all still here.  Particularly, think about the creative aspects that people keep bringing up and saying that they miss.  I miss that too.  Does anyone remember the Unwashed Parking Lot?

It also seems to me that despite the declining relevance of Fallout specifically, we are still a group of people with a set of common interests.  We also have - and this may surprise you - a website! So my proposal is simple: Develop the website to post creative content written by UV members based on a set of shared interests.  If no one else finds it engaging, who cares?  We can be as insular as we want to be.  However, the better result would be some increase in traffic to the front page and the forums as well, thus giving us our much-needed new members.

Obviously, this is a project that people will have to invest some of their time in.  So if a large group of people find the idea of developing on-line content engaging, we would have to answer:

1. What kind of content?
2. Who will be in charge of what?
3. Could you please pass me that orange?

That sounds notoriously like a "plan" and I know we're loathe to operate by such a filthy connivance of human rationality, but it may be the best thing for us.

and on the MMO suggestion,

i think Anarchy-Online would work very well we could even have our own city and name it the "UV"
AO is a SciFi based MMO (similar to cyberpunk or even shadowrun) we also just celabrated our 10th aniversary of the game (not going anywhere soon either) Lastly I will add that while the graphics are not the "best" MMOs have to offer they are good and allow older computers to play 56k modem required but i wouldn't recommened playing on dial-up however lol.

Not to mention I am very well established in the game (as mrweasel uv none the less) and in short order could get the credits to purchase a city for us.

i can even go as far as i have 3-4 passes for all expansions and 30 days of free play (you can also create a free account without expansions that remains free)

I play on Rimor (Rubi-Ka 2) on the clan side (as who really wants to play as a corparate omnitec puke)

and lastly some very very good ppl at AO many ppl return to the game over and over not for the game but for the other players

1 extra thing the average players age in AO is about 25, there are bratty kids but not a whole hell of alot of them cause the game has a bit of a heavy learning curve when u start to play.

Hello there internet people. Can any of you direct me to some of the other original members of this little group? I'd like to catch up with some of them.

Disclaimer: I have had a fair bit to drink.
I had to walk down to an NTB (national tire and battery) to get a battery for my car (about 2 miles in 110 degree heat). Fortunately, the clerk took it upon himself to offer the lady behind me a free rotation in exchange for giving me a lift home, so I got back in one piece.
So, I've had a good bit of alcohol to cool off. Don't worry I drank plenty of water first.

Anyway: Seeing this thread, I thought of something.

I abandoned the village for about a year without saying anything. Not because I was upset or anything really, but I had posted some creative writing and music in the hopes of getting some feedback, and got something like 30 views with no replies. I assumed people were just deciding to be polite and not trash my work, but I figured, "You know what? I can get silence from no one." So I left.

I think that's one of the complaints, is honestly that people feel as though they bring up discussion points and the village tends to lurk or just make "me too" posts. Honestly, I don't think this is the fault of the village: I think it's the fault of the format.

What do you say? It's a forum, which is really meant for discussion (via internet, read RAGING NERD ARGUMENT), and there are only so many topics available for discussion on this format. I think that we should really transition to the future. But that's just my 2c. I'm not sure what that means: Google plus? Facebook? Something that allows more methods of interaction than just "ha" or "me too."

I do think your stuff is pretty nice but that might gain you negative points in some literary circles.

It's the Enlightened One!

As to your question, go south until you hit the 4th stoplight. Take a left and continue heading east for about 2 miles or so where you'll come to a railroad crossing. After crossing it, take the dirt road immediately to the right and follow it up the mountain until you reach the lookout point at the top. BASE jump off the mountain and you should find the hamlet they all hang out at.
All right, I’ve been thinking, when life gives you lemons, don’t make lemonade! Make life take the lemons back! Get mad! I don’t want your damn lemons! What am I supposed to do with these? Demand to see life’s manager! Make life rue the day it thought it could give Cave Johnson lemons! Do you know who I am? I’m the man whose gonna burn your house down – with the lemons! I'm gonna get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down!

Okay, I got it.  Hanging out with you boys on this board when I was in high school was super fucking awesome; what we can do to restore the board to what it used to be is stop being pussies.  I enjoy creative writing and stuff like that, but let's not humor people who suck any more.  What can we do to restore the UV to its former glory?  I was 15 when I came to the board, and honestly, it changed my life.  I love this place.  I love it because people were fucking honest.  anklsdfnkalfnkadsfldnas

okay, well, never mind about the fact that my introduction to social society was the board.  the point is that if you want that back, you have to just be honest as hell.

But what if we are honest but still suck?   :(

The main reason I don't post anything much these days is that I've become aware of the fact that I'm boring.  I'm a listener, not a talker.  Hell, I don't even really do anything.  Theatre, work, gaming, relationship.  That's pretty much my whole life and it's all pretty routine.  I'm sure there are things that happen that people would find exciting, but for some reason none of it does for me.

And here's where I hit the "don't post because it's boring" wall and keep myself from going into a self-diagnostic monologue that would serve no purpose other than to make me look like a self-absorbed twat or generally make people uncomfortable about having a deep insight into a person they've never met, bringing the thread to an abrupt halt until somebody posts something completely unrelated.
