You could major in some science, and then do 4 hour labs which give you one measly credit.

I'd rather write essays.

So I literally just called my boss and quit my job I've been at for 2 years cold turkey.  Someone give me my fucking Night Owl Member Card (I hope someone remembers this!). It was a pretty shitty thing of me to do, especially since it was a small shop and I was his sole employee, but I had no choice; I hated that job, my life, and I couldn't stand another day.
This past week was one of the worst of my life. I suffered a family death (aunt) and I decided that I couldn't stand living with a family who I no longer felt comfortable, safe or trusting around. So I stayed with my cousin for the weekend. I'm back at home for now, my mom and sister think i'm crazy for quitting, and when my dad wakes up i'm afraid he might literally have a heart attack and die when he finds out. They don't trust me to be an adult and make my own decisions.
I'm going to spend the next couple of weeks looking for a better job, maybe serving or bartending, something that I can do during the evenings while i'm at school. If I don't find one by then, i'm leaving. I'm prepared to live out of my car for a bit if need be.

The only person who knows the right thing for you to do is yourself, and I've realized that now. My parents are making less money now than they were 20 years ago, and If I listened to them I might be doing the same. Every few years I have a life changing moment, and I just had one. I know I come to this forum and post a lot of sad shit, but is nice to have a place where I can let my feelings flow. If anyone wants to say anything to me, feel free to PM me, I would appreciate any encouragement. Sorry about the rant.

This is the place for rants.  Good job, btw!

And good luck!  I think (and hope) you made the right choice.

Congratulations on going back to uni, quitting a crappy soul sucking job can be a defining moment, it makes a huge difference when you're happy and you trust that people around you are competent and have your interests in mind.

I've cut all contact with my extended family, they were just an emotional drain and a chore, they were also proving themselves a liability to my young family. I've not been in a more assured confident position at any point in my life. Of course there's still the odd twinge of nostalgia and regret but to open that door again would be to let in a sea of bad memories and toxic possessive demands.

Good luck to you, I hope it works out for you.

Awesomeness.

[clarification edit]
meaning wonderfully constructed sentence, almost poetic.  Didn't want anyone to think I was being sarcastic or smarmy.

I think you meant Killmod.

Anyway... erm...

I got my results last month, found out that I now have an A level in Politics and Business studies, officially making me untrustworthy.

I'm starting university at the end of the month, which I'm quite looking forward to, a fresh start, with new people and a new goal in life.

My friend also wrote a book, in which I was listed as a special thanks, I'm quite proud of the fact that he was able to get something out there. Especially at his age (he's just started college) with such good quality works to. I was there on launch day and got a signed copy, which I've never done before but it was totally worth doing.
The sun beyond the mountain glows

You can enjoy a grander sight
By climbing to a greater height

I have run out of places to climb. I will abandon this body and take to the air. We will leave twin vapor trails in the air, white lines etched into these rocks. I am the aerial. In my passing, I will send news to each and every star.

All right, I’ve been thinking, when life gives you lemons, don’t make lemonade! Make life take the lemons back! Get mad! I don’t want your damn lemons! What am I supposed to do with these? Demand to see life’s manager! Make life rue the day it thought it could give Cave Johnson lemons! Do you know who I am? I’m the man whose gonna burn your house down – with the lemons! I'm gonna get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down!

You have my condolences Hoopy. I came extremely close to losing my Father less than a year ago, and it really opened my eyes. Heres a quote from the classic Disney movie The Fox and the Hound

"Goodbye may seem forever, farewell is like the end. But in my heart's a memory, and there you'll always be"

Yesterday was my first day at school in over 18 years.

I had enough with the company I had worked for 18 years (in software development) and volunteered to be laid off as they had been constantly having lay-offs in our department for over 5 years. I didn't have any real future plans at the time but thought I'd figure out something. I was looking around for a bit over a year until I decided I'll start studying to be a practical nurse. Naturally that profession isn't as profitable as IT, but I thought I didn't need that much income anyway. I just end up buying silly stuff ;)

As for other happenings of lately, I graduated 1st kyu (final brown belt) in aikido just before Christmas and should start training also kenjutsu later this month.
