Been doing well. We're still here.

Glad to hear things are still going well for you.
All right, I’ve been thinking, when life gives you lemons, don’t make lemonade! Make life take the lemons back! Get mad! I don’t want your damn lemons! What am I supposed to do with these? Demand to see life’s manager! Make life rue the day it thought it could give Cave Johnson lemons! Do you know who I am? I’m the man whose gonna burn your house down – with the lemons! I'm gonna get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down!

A few weeks ago, I realized that I had a drug problem (cannibis).  I'm going to beat it, but i need all the support i can get.

It's horrible stuff, looking back I can see just how much of life gets wasted when you're wasted.  I did ok at uni but I could have done better. My short term memory is only now starting to come back after five or six years and I feel generally more mentally sharp, even though I'm glad things are getting better year by year I lament the years lost and it re-enforces my will to never touch the stuff again.

I was an advocate and didn't see the harm, it's only now being on the outside that I realise how much of a mental toll the evil weed takes.

Stay strong and keep in mind that you're working towards re-engaging with your natural potential and that the epiphany you get when you're clear headed is much more profound than the one you get when your head is stuffed up your arse.

I never smoked a lot of weed but I had smoked some.

I finally stopped when I realized:

1.  It was smoking (and smoking = bad)
2.  You lose IQ points every time you smoke.

So just find some reasons to stop smoking and remind yourself of those reasons every day.

And good luck!

Well yes, third child is here, we called her Rowan.  She's pretty awesome, sleeps and eats pretty much and when she's not sleeping or eating she's crying to go into a sling so she can sleep attached to me.  Babies are awesome, you should all get one, that could be lack of sleep talking though.

Where can I buy one of these "babies?"

Stupidness aside: Congratulations by the way.

Watching the second season of Nuka Break reminded me of this place and I thought I'd see if it still existed. It didn't take that long to find this site and create an account, but it turned out to take some six weeks to get it activated - I had already forgotten about the whole thing again :)

As for what I've been up to since I last posted..

I decided to volunteer to be laid off from our company after working there for the last 18 years. I've wanted to quit for the longest time, but there didn't seem to be alternatives for our company in the area. After I returned to work from the last summer holiday, I decided I had enough whether there's an alternative or not. I've yet to decide what I want to do for living in the future, but I think I'm done with the IT industry even if it's what I know best.

I had already been thinking of starting practicing aikido around the time I first became Unwashed in the 90's. It wasn't until recently that I got it done. I've been practicing it for a few years now and currently have a brown belt (2.kyu). What finally lead me into aikido was my sword collection. We were talking about the latest addition to it when my colleague happened to mention the local dojo where he had started aikido a year earlier.

My brother asked me if I was interested to visit Auschwitz last year. I don't care much for traveling generally but the trip sounded interesting so I agreed to go. The trip was a great success and we decided to raise the stakes and visit Chernobyl next. This summer we went there accompanied by another brother of mine. It was interesting to visit Pripyat and I liked Ukraine and the local people so much that I started studying Russian as soon as I got back home. I live near the Russian border and there's a lot of Russian tourists in the city. I suppose it doesn't hurt knowing the language when I eventually start looking for a new job either.

I can see your new business model now: "The Anklekicker Tour of Horrors"

Auschwitz, Chernobyl, Fukushima, Hiroshima, Disney World...  a veritable wealth of targets.

That sounds like a great business idea. I don't have what it takes to visit Disney World though. Our next trip was planned for North Korea, but now that I'm out of work, it might need to wait.

In case someone's interested, here's a selection of pictures from our Chernobyl and Auschwitz trips:

Yeah, sorry about that. We've ended up on a lot of spammer lists as a targeted board, which is why Chucky set up the approval list.

The general idea is that if you wait a few days after people register, most spammers will move on because they pretty much run on bots anyway.

But sometimes we admins forget to actually check the lists which means legitimate posters slip through the cracks. (I noticed your name.)

(Oddly enough, some patient spammer actually spammed us anyway, which I've now removed and banned.)

Holy crap, welcome back Gretchy! I remember you from years ago, man, its good to see a familiar name on this board again.

Thanks for posting about the trips! I've had a fascination with Russia since I was a kid, and I know some of the language, so i'll be sure to check out the photos from Chernobyl.

Also, I feel you about the IT gig. My cousins are working in IT and being very successful, and while i've considered it, I don't want to spend my career in front of a computer screen. It seems like thats really where the moneys at though, especially if you don't have a college degree.
