Hey kid :) Where in the north of england?

I can never figure out the right way to answer that question. If I should lay the douche on thick or act like it's no big deal. We'll see which comes out. Living in a small town called Alnwick not too far from the Scottish border. I also happen to be living in a castle owned by the Duke of Northumberland that you may recognize from such films as "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" and "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets." Pretty surreal. Did I mention I'm living in a castle?

Thanks everyone for the welcoming. You're all just as friendly as ever.

Swash: That's a tough one isn't it? It seems nobody is having much luck with jobs right now. I'm scared shitless at the prospect of having to graduate and go get a real one. I wish you the best of luck man.

Tink: Isn't that the absolute truth? It's this memory that your brain just isn't willing to toss into the garbage pile.

Welcome back RR.

I've done the whole living in a castle thing myself, apart from the reverent bowing and "Yes master" from shop keepers when they asked for my address it's not all it's cut out to be, it's cold.

'kid' is a northern English colloquialism, it's an expression of affection rather than an overt comment on age.

I'm with you on the cold. Stone is not the best for generating or holding heat. That and things are definitely a little more luxurious in the Duke's living areas than they are in my part. I'm totally willing to ignore the discomfort just to enjoy this beautiful setting every day though. That and what an awesome pick-up line.

Mind if I ask where you were staying?

Before we settled down where we are now my wife ran a castle up in north of scotland for the National Trust for Scotland, so quite a bit further up from where you are.

We lived in a modernised part of the castle and the rest of it was basically a museum and function suite.  It was a lot of fun but we were both working crazy hours.  She has a much harder job now looking after our two little ones.

I got baptised and took first communion today.

Yesterday I got offered a job that allows me to spend a lot more time with my wife and family and pays far more than my current job.

Life is a far cry from where it was two weeks ago and a world away from where it was when I joined the village.

Awesome!  And congratulations. :)

Just for the record I absolutely love old castles, unfortunately they don't exist in the US. If I went to the UK I would probably spend half my time touring them  ::)

Mainly, a bunch of cool stuff.  For example, I beat resident evil four on professional.  Also, uhm, teaching and school and women and booze and writing.  But mainly resident evil four.
I fall and I leap and
I'm freaking out
Nowhere near my place and I
Know that they've seen me now

Found Settlers of Catan in a holiday cabin I stayed in at the start of last year in Tasmania.  It was indeed rather fun.

lol so weird, I went to Alnwick Castle last Sunday . I live in Newcastle now, hence asking where in NE. How come you're living there?
I am posting my pic of Hagrid from last weekend! (though I have to admit I loathe anything Harry Potter-related, it was cute to see the kids' reactions)

Now I just have to get a job. The severance from my volunteer layoff isn't going to last forever.

And I just found out today that I have new job. I accepted the offer and start on Monday.
All right, I’ve been thinking, when life gives you lemons, don’t make lemonade! Make life take the lemons back! Get mad! I don’t want your damn lemons! What am I supposed to do with these? Demand to see life’s manager! Make life rue the day it thought it could give Cave Johnson lemons! Do you know who I am? I’m the man whose gonna burn your house down – with the lemons! I'm gonna get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down!

Well that is one hell of a coincidence. There's a study abroad program located there that I'm working on before I decide to finish my degree.
