Built a treadmill desk. That's pretty cool. I can walk slowly and surf the net at the same time.

Have you tried launching a plane off of it yet?
All right, I’ve been thinking, when life gives you lemons, don’t make lemonade! Make life take the lemons back! Get mad! I don’t want your damn lemons! What am I supposed to do with these? Demand to see life’s manager! Make life rue the day it thought it could give Cave Johnson lemons! Do you know who I am? I’m the man whose gonna burn your house down – with the lemons! I'm gonna get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down!

Nah. I don't want it to crash into the wall... or would it?

Dun dun dun...
Will I get Night Owl points for quitting but not as much for getting fired?
Will I still be a member of the Owl's Pals? I'd hate to turn in my card. It's got a real owl feather under the lamination and everything.

Night Owl: Oh, indeed. I quit many a job ...better than being fired. You can keep your card... in fact, you get double points for quitting!

Gratz!

If you want to be really nonchalant about it, just update your facebook relationship status as married after the fact. Or maybe go traditional and make your man ask for your hand in marriage. :)

A very late congratulations, ACD! I suppose you have told them by now? If so, how did you do it?

i got a speeding ticket the day before we got engaged, so i lumped the two together.
then monday i got into an accident (no one was hurt, my 16 year old car got the worst of it), so i saw my dad for the first time since mid january and told him about the plans we've sorta talked about.

morb - i was half expecting him to talk to my dad about it. since he didnt do it at christmas i was figuring he'd wait till he saw my parents at my graduation. apparently there's a family tradition of the men in his father's side to do the official ask thing.

bout ten minutes after i called my parents, everyone else found out on facebook. my parents know so little about my actual plans for life that i had to at least give them the courtesy of something vocal.
In case of rapture, can I have your car?

Congrats ACD!

I did the traditional thing and asked my father in law for his permission.  I asked to speak to him outside and he looked a little spooked; I'm over a foot taller than him, hairy and he can barely understand a word I say because of my accent.  I'd been quite nervous about it but I'm glad I did it properly looking back.

Just as a matter of interest; how do most people see getting engaged nowadays, is it just another step in the commitment trail or do people generally get engaed with the full intention of setting a date for marriage?

So this is like an inter-species marriage??

we've been talking about getting married and the "traditional" thing almost since the beginning. it's just strange now that we've set a date and everything.

Life update by Simon:

I am alive.
I did not move to brisbane.
I did however move to an apartment with my girlfriend. I am also studying again, although this has recently taken a bit of a self inflicted nose dive. I still needlessly sabotage my life, obsess over trivial details, and work myself into a state of crippling anxiety for no better reason than not wanting to "fail at life" like some lame Yossarian without the airplanes and whores.
Being a student still makes me poor, which still sucks.

And having read what I just wrote, I feel I should also mention that I am in fact far happier and way more in control of my faculties than I was some years ago. Improvement is good, but takes time.
I got chocolate bubblegum!

This is right on the verge of signaturability...

I just turned in my last paper of my undergraduate career.

With any luck there will never be another "Acd needs homework help" thread ever again.
