A lot happier than I've been in a long time :)

This gave me a much needed smile today.

Will I get Night Owl points for quitting but not as much for getting fired?
Will I still be a member of the Owl's Pals? I'd hate to turn in my card. It's got a real owl feather under the lamination and everything.

Let's see, what's going on here... we're going on another cruise in May - this time to Bermuda. We have found that we like cruising quite a bit - great way to vacation. I'm never driving anywhere, and the drinks are good (decent beer, top shelf whisky)

Business is well - could be busier, but I can't complain. Looking to get my website redone. Am also toying w/ writing a third book. Maybe later this year. But it won't be a business book. The next business-related stuff I write I'll sell on my site.

What else... think I'll buy Just Cause 2 tomorrow for the XBox.... ummm... I called the cable company. Now that the Jets will be on "Hard Knocks" this year, I have to get HBO back.

Man, I'm really reaching here... my life is friggen boring these days. Just the way I like it. I like being early-to-mid 40's. Tis a good time in life. :)

Boring is fine. We joke over here that we want a year of boring just to catch our breath!  :dizzy:

Wow - where to start? I was downstairs before school wandering around and for some reason I thought of all you guys. So, here I be.

Thinsg are going well - our eldest is in high school now, our youngest in Grade 6. We're still living in the same place and I'm still gainfully emploed as a principal.

There's a heap of other junk - it's been about a year since I came here - but everyone's well and happy.

Cheers from the Land of Oz

I signed the papers yesterday to put my house on the market. It will be listed next Monday.
All right, I’ve been thinking, when life gives you lemons, don’t make lemonade! Make life take the lemons back! Get mad! I don’t want your damn lemons! What am I supposed to do with these? Demand to see life’s manager! Make life rue the day it thought it could give Cave Johnson lemons! Do you know who I am? I’m the man whose gonna burn your house down – with the lemons! I'm gonna get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down!

Yes, I've left it far too long. Happy to give you the run-down - I'll just take some time and get back to you.

I've thought about you all form time to time - there were some heady days, highs, lows and aeverthing in between. Amazing how things such as this weave themselves into the fabric of our lives.

Cheers

Our kids are growing up too fast,
But going very well,
I’ve witnessed their successes,
And helped them through Boyfriend Hell.
One’s now in high school,
She loves every single day,
She was ready to make the transition,
A young adult in every way.
Our youngest is still smarter than I,
Has determination and tenacity,
They’re both enjoying doing dancing,
A talent they don’t get from me.
They both were selected at club level,
To perform more complex tasks,
And both have shown true commitment,
As a parent that’s all I can ask.
I still thrash out stuff on the guitar,
It’s a form of relaxation that I trust,
Though, I don’t do it so often,
As testified by a thin film of dust.
We’re still both in education,
Still in the same school,
Still enjoying helping families,
Still working with the odd fool.
Kids now are so very different,
They’re complex, distractible and more,
In many ways different to any other kids,
That have walked on our planet before.
Which makes education more challenging,
For student needs we strive to cater,
Some kids we quickly reach and they respond,
Some kids we reach a little later.
But I’m confident we make a difference,
Skills and time we provide,
Skills to be life-long learners,
And time to grow inside.
Charlie wanted some new transportation,
Her old wheels were quite tired,
She was looking for something with more panache,
Something that would leave her inspired.
We settled on an awesome vehicle,
Enhanced in every way,
She smiled the first time she drove it,
And is still smiling to this day.
With a large, augmented V8,
And a handling and braking upgrade,
It’ll blow most things away in a straight line,
And on track leave others in the shade.
It’s hardly environmentally friendly,
It’s not a science experiment,
It isn’t run by batteries or gerbils,
Or on cotton buds that are used and bent.
So, I’m sorry if I’ve offended you,
Or upset your environmental plan,
Please feel free to tell me so,
But catch me if you can.
Now when we got to car shows,
We have both our cars on display,
The whole family are now petrol heads,
I am proud to say.
We have also developed a new passion,
A speedway is not far away,
It’s a dirt oval that’s very popular,
And we attend every race day.
No, we’re not actual competitors,
But we love to clap and cheer,
We enjoy watching all the different classes,
That choose to venture up here.
Of course, our kids don’t sit with us,
With their friends they fool,
They’re often socialising with their peers,
‘Cause sitting with your folks aint cool.
So, there’s 12 months very quickly,
Lots of family, work and such,
Life stands still for no person,
But some things don’t change much.

Cheers

Fighting some major cold or flu. I've had it for about 8 days blah.

On a interesting way out there story... it's giving me those mad dreams. Where I have a fever and it's making me insane when I dream.

So today I took a short nap (I work contract and I can take time off and make it up later). Well that turned into a four hour nap. But anyway... before I sleep, I usually read TVtropes.org.

I was reading Art Initiates Life (Tropes where people can create life - drawings come to life for example).

I ended up on the Big Bad Beetleborgs page, clicked the video and then went to sleep. So I had the song running though my head, over and over.

"Big... bad.... BEEEEETleborgs.... Big... bad.... BEEEEETleborgs.... saved a ghost and now they have superpowers.... Big... bad.... BEEEEETleborgs.... Big... bad.... BEEEEETleborgs.... "

I remember screaming out: "STOP!!!!!" That didn't work. It stayed in my head.

Then I was dreaming that I was posting at the Unwashed board and told Loveshack that he needed to save a ghost to get superpowers.

So that was it. Fever dreams are so interesting.
Will I get Night Owl points for quitting but not as much for getting fired?
Will I still be a member of the Owl's Pals? I'd hate to turn in my card. It's got a real owl feather under the lamination and everything.

Then I was dreaming that I was posting at the Unwashed board and told Loveshack that he needed to save a ghost to get superpowers.

After a quick review of Big Bad Beetleborgs, I've decided I'd rather capture the ghost for the villianous Triceratops Adam West in exchange for superpowers rather than let Liberace Elvis Leno Ghost wreak havoc on an unsuspecting world.

I don't remember all the particulars of the sentai import shows that aired during Saban's stranglehold on Fox's children's programming for much of the 90s, but I remember some of what I thought were the best components of each show and what would have made for great crossover/composite show.

First of all, Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers was king. That show started when I was nine and I still loved it. I should stress that I only really liked it when it was just MMPR, and had season-long plot arcs. Not what they’ve been doing for the last 15 years where they start each new season with a completely new cast and back-story.  Though I did start watching again briefly during college, when I saw an ad for the latest incarnation at the time, Dino Thunder, when Jason Frank came back as Tommy to lead the team. This was back when they’d advertise for Power Rangers at two in the morning when I was watching Gargoyles on Disney channel. It wasn’t like I was monitoring the cast roster of Power Rangers on the off-chance they’d bring back old cast members.  I really only liked the show from the first season right up through the time that Tommy led the team as the White Ranger, and even then only REALLY during that brief period where Lord Zedd was going solo as the villain and Kimberly was still on the team.  I never much cared for Rita Repulsa mainly because she wasn't at all threatening, but when a skinless guy with an exposed brain in silver armor started stomping around! Wow! He was scary even when the lights hit him just right and you could see the Japanese man's eyes through the costume visor! Also, the whole Green Ranger story arc kicked all kinds of ass! Anyway…

Best “King” Henchperson: Without question, Goldar on MMPR. This guy actually looked like someone you’d be afraid to fight in real life. Plus, he was the only monster I remember actually incurring a visible injury on the show rather than just falling over in a cloud of sparks or teleporting away.  In the first episode, the dude got his wings chopped off and kept fighting! Cycloptor from Masked Rider runs a close second mainly because he spent most episodes of the show standing around in the background behind the villains and rarely ever fighting.  Still, you can’t underestimate the appeal of cycloptic robot with guns and a bomber jacket.
Honorable Mention: Rita’s brother, Rito Revulta. He wasn't the least bit threatening, but the costume was cool and he was frequently paired with Goldar, so he gets a pass by association. Same thing with Skorpina, but her infrequent appearances keep her from first place.

Best Goons: Putty Patrollers from MMPR, with the Skugs from VR Troopers running a distant second and only mentioned because of their costumes. I don't remember the goons from any of the other shows, or much about the other shows in general for that matter.

Best Heroes: Again, the initial lineup of MMPR right up through the White Ranger-era lineup was great. It got good again right around the time Jason came back as the Gold Ranger for a bit, but by then I had pretty much lost interest.

Best Costumes: VR Troopers, hands down. It’s odd, because I got the feeling their show had the lowest budget out of all of them, but it looked like their costumes had the most effort put into them.  Anyone can make a cool helmet paired with some spandex, but they actually had costumes on that show. Also… “FORCES OF DARKNESS EMPOWER ME! TAKE ME BACK TO MY VIRTUAL REALITY!” If they didn’t have a talking dog on that show, it could have been a close contender for the top spot, mainly because it was the exact same show as MMPR

I don’t remember anything especially redeemable about Beetleborgs mainly because that whole “kids turn into grownup-sized superheroes” gimmick seemed a little too eye-rollingly blatant and lazy of an appeal to the show’s target demographic. See also: Power Rangers: Turbo. (I only ever saw the movie, mainly because Kimberly was in it, but I remember thinking it was a little odd that Rocky twisted his ankle and they automatically replaced him with a little kid and Rocky was never heard from again.  Didn’t really seem like a career-ending injury.  My theory is that they treated him like an injured racehorse and Zordon had him killed.) I just remember the show being very dumb, even for a sentai show, which is REALLY saying something!

But I think we can call agree, no matter what your particular flavor of spandex-clad monster-fighting, that the lynchpins of sentai’s humongous US popularity were the comedy duo of Bulk and Skull and that the genre just hasn’t been the same since their departure.

(I also believe there’s a level of hell where the damned have no one but Alpha 5 to keep them company and reruns of Mystic Knights of Tir Na Nog play in a continuous loop on giant TV’s for all eternity.)
