I'm getting married! It's such an expensive business and so horribly stressful.  It'll be worth it all though.

Grats!

Yeah we've somehow managed to turn the typical wedding into a commercial enterprise.

Does anyone else think General Petreaus looks like Alvin?

Awesome news! Congratulations! I hope you two will be very happy.
Will I get Night Owl points for quitting but not as much for getting fired?
Will I still be a member of the Owl's Pals? I'd hate to turn in my card. It's got a real owl feather under the lamination and everything.

I agree with all of that.

Especially the last part. : )

We went to the Star Trek Convention at the Hilton. I had a really fun day but the convention in Vegas just seemed a bit lacking. I remember going to a convention in Los Angeles about 19 years ago (I was very very young when I went) and the place was packed with great stuff. There were tables filled with interesting things to buy, lots of people and it just seemed more alive.

The convention at the Hilton just seemed sparse and lifeless. While many of the big names were there we got to see many F list actors instead. eg. The guy who did the welding in the upcoming Star Trek Movie promo ("Meet the Welder!"), see the Asian kid from that episode where Wesley Crusher and five other children were kidnapped, and the "These aren't the droids you're looking for" Stormtrooper. Sure it's cool that you were in the movie but I'm not dropping $40.00 for a picture or autograph from you. I can spend another $30.00 and get a picture with Leonard Nimoy. Scott Bakula had the most expensive price tag for autographs and pictures. I like the guy but why $109.00 for a picture with him vs $75.00 for Nimoy or even Zackary Quinto?

On the plus side, I got to say hello to Zackary Quinto and he said hello back to me with a big friendly smile. He seems like a nice guy.

Then we went to go eat at one of 'our' restaurants since Quarks was full. We went to the restaurant at Binions and noticed a faint sewer backup smell. We walked in anyway and we were the only people there for 80% of our meal. It felt very strange. Every word we said was echoed though out the restaurant.

We then returned to the convention and walked around some more. There wasn't anything interesting that we just HAD to have. We got a $5.00 Hotwheels Batmobile and that was it. A purchase possibly made because we had to get 'something'. As we left we were given a handout. The handout mentioned a party/panel with the stars of Star Trek the Experience.

I'll continue that story later on tomorrow...

Just got back from vacation. I blew a tire in Death Valley and can't get the taste out of my mouth.

True story.

We still have a stockade, right?  So we can put Jeff in it?

Why Death Valley?

Because it sounds better than telling people I was vacationing in Fluffy Bunny Wildlife Preserve.

We still have a stockade, right?  So we can put Jeff in it?

Last I checked it was occupied by some disheveled, confused old vagrant who hung a 'vestibule' sign out front.

There was a clear and distinct lack of hevelment going on. Wearing socks and sandals at the same time, living in your own filth. That sort of thing.

I'm back to getting Gladys ready for school after my own 3 leave. Six yr. olds can be sooo tiring at times, and they talk about those most random things sometimes. My oldest (Icehawk) has decided that being a stoner is not such a good idea and is finishing high school this year instead of next, by doubling up on his classes and going two nights a week. Mathew is still very into his art studies and they wised up and gave him Spanish this year, b/c they finally realized that French is absolutely useless here.  Eva is still a brain, but not to be confused with  a geek. lol! She's even into "girlie" things now, but hell no, she aint wearin' a skirt! It took me 2 hours to spiral curl her hair for the first day of school. She was bitching b/c it took so long, so I had to explain that if her hair wasn't down to her ass, it wouldn't have taken so long. Then I told her that she can do it herself next time.

I'm winding down from the usual bust-ass lawn work I was doing all summer. Looking into going back to school for computer tech support. Doc says I've got to stay out of the sun from now on.:( I go to the doc's on Monday to find out more on the skin cancer. If it's not one thing, it's another, I just keep rolling with the punches. Funny how I gave up all the bad shit to the point where I bore myself, but daaaamn, I just can't win.

I guess the bright side is, my kids are all back on the right track, so things don't totally suck.:)
No matter how much you push the envelope, it will still be stationary.
