The Working Dead....
« on: October 25, 2007, 09:05:19 PM »
The Working Dead · LifeReboot.com

This was DEFINITELY the Welfare Department. Not only was it ok to slack off but you became the office pariah if you did your job too well.

That's why I left. I didn't want to become one of THOSE people that sleep in the office during work. It sounds like a dream but the mental strain of the boredom gets to you after a while. You begin to feel useless.

After a while even my SUPERVISOR told me to slow down and there was NO MORE WORK to me and to go do 'something'. I started bringing in text/html files I downloaded and I would read them at work. (This was 1997 and the office wasn't connected to the internet yet.) Finally I couldn't stand it anymore and just left.

To give you an idea of how bad is was. Without a degree I was making enough money to go to Australia, Hawaii, buy new computers, clothes, jeep etc. Yet... it was so mind numbingly boring I had to leave. I would have tears of boredom (not sad crying tears).

Edit: I think this is why I like being in business for myself. It kinda puts me in hunt mode. I have to go out and find things to bring me money. I hunt for it. I'd rather be the lioness on the plains instead of in a zoo. I think having to struggle a bit makes me a better person.

Will I get Night Owl points for quitting but not as much for getting fired?
Will I still be a member of the Owl's Pals? I'd hate to turn in my card. It's got a real owl feather under the lamination and everything.

Night Owl: Oh, indeed. I quit many a job ...better than being fired. You can keep your card... in fact, you get double points for quitting!

wow, i'm a working dead

what i've done today:

ebay and village
opened mail
made coffee
ebay
modified some technical drawings which only took about 10 mins
surfed internet
lunch
typed emails
Village
filing
tidying
village
village
village

there's definitely no sense of urgency or need to work quickly here which is probably why i always feel the need for a nap around mid afternoon after lunch.
i'm glad i'm getting back into sales so i'll have goals and targets to work towards in stead of sitting here thinking 'meh, whats another 10 minutes on ebay?'

This is why I need a job ASAP. Currently on welfare. Jesus fucking christ, this is so boring.

Wake up at noon
Turn on PC, check daily comics and village
Make food
Play wow
make food
drink with dorm-buddies/make dinner (depending on the day)
sleep

[sarcasm] Yay, this is living! [/sarcasm]

I'm proud to say I'm not a member of the living dead, which is why I have always had a tendency to disappear.  But after looking at a lot of the articles, I can say I feel a bond with Mr. Shaun.

Went into best buy once and had the following conversation:

Me: "Yeah, my machine is under warranty, and I think the problem is this, but I haven't checked because it would void the warranty."
Him:"Sure, leave it here and we'll have it back to you in a month and a half."
Me: "Excuse me?"
Him:"We're just a bit busy right now, that's all."
*Look in back to see two guys playing on PSPs*
Me: "Those two in your department?"
Him:"Yes sir."
Me: "They busy?"
Him:"They can't do repairs."
Me: "Not my question."
Him:"They're on break."
Me: "For how long?"
Him:"Sir, just leave your machine here.  We have to send it to corporate anyway, we can't do repairs here."
Me: "Then what the hell do you do here."
Him:"Drop it in a box and forget about it."
Me: "Sounds like your job sucks."
Him:"Doesn't yours?"
