The worst computer thing EVER was Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum uploading a virus to an alien's computer in ID4.

Yea... setting up a 4 computer LAN game is a pain in the ass... but Goldblum's laptop just happened to be fully compatable with an alien race's technology... uh HUH.

Are we also expected to believe that E.T. phoned home on a speak n' spell, hooked up to a circular saw blade with coat hanger, along with string and an umbrella? I suppose E.T. grew up to be McGuyver.  ;D

I prefer the scenes that they screw up, like when one of the extras in Gladiator wore a Timex watch. You can actually catch it in one of the battle scenes. I guess Timex really does take a lickin' and keeps on tickin'.
No matter how much you push the envelope, it will still be stationary.

That isn't that far fetched in my opinion.. Vista voice recognition has come a long way, and I'd actually say that it was possible to do that today. At least to the extent where you have defined the semantics of the language the computer understands. So it won't be able to understand english, but it will respond to a limited set of commands in english.

I should explain. When there are possible interpretations... the computer will still deduce the correct meaning.
I have a problem when it's using present day run of the mill technology.

Eg. Computer... open file.

(Out of the 20 documents open the computer opens the one the speaker wants)

"Magnify area"

(The computer zooms to the correct spot out of 200 grid areas and magnifies it)

"Compare image against files on record"

(Computer assumes that it's mugshots you want and finds the match)

Bingo!

I will not stand idly by while you insult the awesome power of the E.S.P.E.R. machine from "Blade Runner".  It's a movie set in 2029.  It's perfectly plausible in a world of super powered clones and flying cars that you could get a crystal clear image of someone's face by scanning a photo where they are standing in a huge crowd in poor lighting and the only thing visible is the back of their head.

I think it was police show from 1997 where they were doing that with the computer. Also the computers screen lit the room with it's glow.

Yeah, computers in scifi movies are always funny in that they date the movie horribly.

Like scenes like this?

The star of the movie/show arrives on a planet. Has an adventure using anti gravity belts, killer robots, force shields, ray guns and then needs information from their on board computer.

"Computer... print"

Dot matrix printer starts.

Worse is when they can model the surrounding area in 3d based on that picture.

if this was a few years ago, i wouldn't have seen the problem with this... but after a year of modeling in 3DS Max, that would probably bug the crap out of me. modeling complex objects without lots of reference = LOSE

this one's for cartoons: whenever someone's driving, they are constantly turning the wheel, yet the car stays on a steady course. i may have seen this in live action before as well... or maybe i dreamt it.

Well, ever since I watched/read Akira, everything just went downhill from there.

Anyone Black will be wise to the ways of the street. He or she will have be ultra cool and have knowledge of all crime in the area.

Anyone Asian will know martial arts.

All techies, computer hackers will either be White or Asian.

Don't even bring that up.... :inquisitive: <_<

If I had a dollar every time some guy came up to ask me about Kung fu while I was in school, I would be so rich it's not even funny.

As for computers...., math..., physics...., let's just not.

Someone wrote a series of satire articles. Something along the line of "My secret shame." I wish I could find it.

One was about a gay man with no fashion sense and his hiding in the closet about it. He spoke about the lengths he would go to put up the facade that he was knowledgeable about fashion.

The other was about an Asian teenager who got a 'B+' in school.

I can't stand bad editing in films that are blockbuster multi-million dollar projects that are supposed to be top notch in every way. It's like they forgot how to make a movie and just concentrated on making CGI and stunts =P
Like... in Gladiator! they completely CGI'd a dead man(oliver reed) into the end of the film using previous clips, but during the battle of zama coliseum battle... they couldn't make these disappear...

it's the little things that ruin films for me =P

Bad job.

It's not that they couldn't cover that up with CG.

Maybe it's one of those alternate timelines where Rome never fell.

Rome didn't fall. It just stumbled a bit and stopped to find its contacts.

After recently watching an episode of the TV Series Buffy:The Vampire Slayer, I noticed that a High School in California in the mid to late 90's has an actual Fire Axe hanging in a case in the main hallway. Ok, SunnyDale is located on a Hellmouth, town is constantly undersiege by Vampires, monsters, demns, etc. but what about the disgruntled teen getting a F in some class or the tyical geek getting punked by the jocks. Screw trying to smuggle  gun from home into the school. Skip class grab the axe and go Postal
