It can be argued that it is none of our business but that argument seems slight when you realize that radical elements could easily get a hold of some nasty weapons if Syrian society and government collapses.  I'm pretty sure I know who those elements will pick as targets.

Except the radical elements are on the rebel side whereas Assad has led a more secular government. So in bombing Syria to weaken Assad we would be increasing the odds of those weapons falling into the wrong hands. Thus also increasing a need to send our troops in.

Not to say that I agree with or support Assad's regime in any way. I just think we're better off sitting this one out.

Here's a really good article written by Dennis Kucinich over at Huffpo. I suggest everyone read it.

Wow. This is the first time I've lurked here in a while and this is sad news to come back to. Kama and I always had the role play thing going when greeting each other as "Elf" and "Dwarf". I'm sorry to hear he's passed.  :(

They call them terrorists because their audience wants to hear it, not because the government considers protesting to be terrorism.

The only news I watch is the 6pm news on KOMO Washington and they didn't breathe a word about it. It's not uncommon. And the comedy central news heads are off again this week, so the general level of political news people who don't actively seek political news is pretty low.

My real issue is the original version of the act that passed had provisions that excluded citizens and legal residents, and that was removed. While the rest of it seems fairly directed at people working for or to aid actual terrorists, not what talking heads call terrorists, the change of that part of it seems weird.

The VP of the United States and a Democratic Congressman are hardly "talking heads". Both referred to the Tea Party as terrorists. As I said, I'm pretty sure there were more politicians that used that rhetoric about Tea Party. All of it coming after the Giffords shooting when there was a call for civility because of the false belief that aggressive rhetoric caused the shooting.

http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2011/aug/4/tea-party-democratic-attacks-prove-we-won-debate/

Here's another one -

Former Obama administration economist Steven Rattner called the GOP’s bargaining tactics “a form of economic terrorism.”

“I imagine these tea party guys are like strapped with dynamite standing in the middle of Times Square at rush hour and saying, ‘Either you do it my way, or we are going to blow you up, ourselves up and the whole country up with us,’ ” Mr. Rattner said.

And those on the media from the opposite side just parroted it of course.

For the record, I'm pro-Tea Party and pro-Occupy. It's about time people got off their duffs and threw a fit over what these parties are doing to our country. My only issue with the TP is they should have gone full third party. I hope that the Occupy movement isn't absorbed by the Democrats as the TP was by the Republicans.

Gosh, could someone explain me WHY they did it ?
And why american people don't react in front of this ?

(And if someone can explain me why baggels got a hole, can be great either ...)

Why they did which part specifically? The detention parts?

I'm assuming that's what he meant. As to why people weren't up in arms about it I'd say that most people here still probably don't even know about it. The mainstream news covered it up for the most part. Both parties were behind it so one party wasn't trying to get the word out and getting any headlines up about it. A handful of politicians spoke out against it but the news pretty much ignored them.

As to why it was put in there, it's not difficult to see really. Between the Tea Party and Occupy movements the two parties realize they have a lot of very angry and motivated people here now. I fully believe that the new detention rules are setup to quell any sort of uprising that threatens the Republicratic grip on this country. They say "terrorist" to try to make us think it's for foreigners living here but the Tea Party was referred to repeatedly as terrorists by certain politicians and the media. The Occupy movement could just as easily be smeared that way.

I was going to let this go but I just can't.

The mainstream news covered it up for the most part.
You really believe that news is 'covering up' stories for some political purposes?  Ludicrous.

I fully believe that the new detention rules are setup to quell any sort of uprising that threatens the Republicratic grip on this country.
Another 'anti-Republican' plot, obviously.  Obviously not.

the Tea Party was referred to repeatedly as terrorists by certain politicians and the media.
I have never heard anyone refer to the Tea Party as terrorists, much less repeatedly.  And yet another jab at the media.

Newt Gingrichisms and paranoia at its finest.

The mainstream news is owned by corporate America. The people who actually run the country. Of course they covered up a story about the fed essentially doing away with an amendment to the Constitution. Go back and try to find the deluge of articles and TV news stories that should have covered the bill before it was passed. You'll find stuff at places like Hotair or DailyKos but not much of anything from CNN, ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX, etc.

Republicratic = Republican/Democrat. Essentially the same party with essentially the same goals as far as control of the citizens goes. Obama has pretty much carried on every Bush policy that Democrats were screaming about for 8 years. He's even expanded on some of them.

The Tea Party "terrorist" thing was during the budget debate when the elected Tea Party politicians were "holding the country hostage" by demanding a cut in spending. Egads! The horror!

http://pittsburgh.cbslocal.com/2011/08/02/congressman-doyle-talks-about-his-tea-party-terrorists-remarks/

Congressman Doyle and VP Biden both reportedly compared the TP to terrorists. There were others (Pelosi too I think) but I'm not going to bother looking them all up. A GIS for "Tea Party Terrorists" should be enough.

Edit - Here's another example. An op-ed on Politico "The tea party's terrorist tactics" http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0711/60202.html

Heh... that was pretty funny.  But I'm not sure I could more than 8 minutes of him at a time. :)

Try this one. He's calmer at the beginning of it and it's about him being asked to host the White House correspondents dinner.

I'm sort of neutral toward Democrats but am really hostile towards Republicans; I tend to overgeneralize them, I suppose, and I shouldn't because we've had some good ones from Oregon (Wayne Morse,  Tom McCall).

The current US Congress makes me want to puke, and I put 85% of the blame on the Republicans ("First order of business: Fight Obama!   Second order of business: Fight Obama   Third order of business: Fight Obama  ad nauseum").   When that kind of ideology overshadows any sense of fiscal or moral responsibility, I end up hoping that they have shot themselves in both feet (and maybe the abdomen) and thus have no chance of re-election.

Bah...

(/end political rant)

It seems lately that anytime the two parties are working together and agree on something it's time to bend over because we're about to get screwed.

Hey, remember when we had access to due process and it couldn't be denied to us at the whim of our government?

I feel like the combat would have been more satisfying with more blood.

Take the one hand perk that gives you a chance to decapitate with every swing. My orc gets quite a few of those kills.

For a challenge I decided to go pure caster and to run through the mage quests at low level. I started the quest line at 4 and am on the very last quest now at level 11 I think. I've already done the hardest part with the dwemer dungeons and taking on the worst boss. Now I'll get the mage tower as my house with easy access to alchemy and enchanting.  :)

I became a werewolf but found it pretty useless for a melee character so I used the cure.

Also from what everyone's telling me, werewolf is useless UNLESS you're a melee character. I know it was for my friend the archer. I'm not sure how it'd go for my magic swordsman, but probably not great.

Hrmm...well I'd never use it because it's not nearly as effective as using a weapon and shield. Also, the time it takes to change doesn't make it an effective "Oh crap" button either. So I guess it's pretty much just useless for everyone then.

I'm in my mid-30s now with my orc sword and board build. I'm the proud owner of several daedric artifacts all of which I found on my own through exploration. I've also found quite a few word walls out in the world but then learned that once you've seen the Greybeards as part of the main quest you can return to their leader to ask if he knows where any are located. He'll drop a side quest on you for one word at a time.

I'm also a master smith now. I just did that around level 30 and have a full suit of deadric armor. I'm currently trying to level Enchanting to a decent point so I can enchant the armor.

I just switched my stone blessing to the mage from the warrior so I can try to level up some casting skills faster. My warrior stuff was all at least in the mid-70s so it was time to switch.

I became a werewolf but found it pretty useless for a melee character so I used the cure.

Today for the first time I had to use a console command to skip to the next part of a quest as the part I was on seemed broken. I've found one cave that made me crash every time I rounded a particular corner but other than that I've had 3-4 crashes. All of those but one were due to me alt-tabbing.
