Unwashed Village / Thoughts on the end of Bethesda's Forums
« on: August 20, 2021, 06:45:32 AM »
So I'm not sure if many of you have followed/heard that Bethesda is planning on sunsetting their forums and in favor of using Discord instead.
Their full comment on the situation: https://bethesda.net/en/article/3nf1F08LHgUEmSt7EqA9ru/bethesda-net-forums-to-be-sunset

I recognize the somewhat sunsetting of forums in general and the prominence of things like Reddit as an alternative, I don't think I could ever see Discord as a replacement for a forum. I see forums as a good place to make a topic and hopefully have lots of dedicated input from different people (poor Empty threads), but compared to the chatroom setting of Discord, it does not seem intuitive in highlighting important subjects relevant to the community unless it's constantly spammed which may result in people just muting the community and disengaging. Many say that this is Bethesda's way of ignoring feedback but who really knows, I guess it may be cheaper to just have a discord server for people to complain about their buggy ass games.

It may be the nostalgic goggles of a time when forums were hot stuff, but I was wondering what do you think? Especially for a company still operating and producing games.

It's probably obvious but this guy is a different TK from me, I'm not prone to homophobic rants.

Interesting to know if he's been around for a while and if he's ever been a UV inmate.

I'm glad you clarified that  :) I was worried that my talking bad would've cause a confrontation. But I'm glad to hear that you're someone else lol. Yeah, he may have stuck his head on here a few times, and I'm curious if I'll become a topic for a video of his. If only I was famous enough

I haven't watch much of Oxhorn but I don't wish him any ill will and I think the few videos I may have seen were good in my book

TK Mantis makes good videos, the UV encounter came up and it was pretty well explained.  ;D

I used to watch a bit of TK Mantis, then he got into a weird Youtube war with another Youtuber and I lost interest. Wonder what he's up to now

Was that Ol' Painful?
I actually think it was against Oxhorn iirc. Looking back at TK's youtube channel, I don't see any videos on it so he may have unlisted/deleted them.

That new trailer for that Fallout: London overhaul mod for FO4 looks pretty good.
I still have the original files for The Frontier but I'm deeply saddened it's full of so much weird shit. Idk if it's something I should be proud of to still have installed...

Unwashed Village / Xbox and Zenimax/Bethesda Purchase
« on: September 23, 2020, 10:05:57 PM »
So I'm sure many of you are aware of the new purchase Xbox made and how the Fallout franchise may or may not see some new stuff in the future? I've heard all different sides and thoughts of the story but from what it's sounding like is that now Obsidian, inXile, and Bethesda are now technically all under the same roof now, maybe we can see some good things to come?

Anyone have any thoughts? It may also mean a bad time for Playstation users but who knows!

Unwashed Village / Re: Getting The Gang Back Together For 76?

76 IS coming to steam when Wastelanders drop. Unfortunately Wasterlanders got delayed a week, they cited COVID-19 but who really knows. So I imagine the steam release might bring in new people. I'll probably give Wastelanders a shot mostly because I own the friggin game so I'm still hoping I can get my money's worth.

I do like The Outer Worlds and I was hoping to have this discussion with some of the people who have also played it, but I can't shake the feeling that maybe a lot of the high praise it is receiving is more of a reaction to the state of RPG videogames since the lightening of their content that probably started with Skyrim in 2011.

I make this controversial statement now, but I believe that now the hype and glamor of the game's release is over, if it were to have released during the golden age of RPGs or in close proximity to another highly regarded RPG (I think the Witcher 3 is the most recent) it would not be seen as good as some people are saying it is. The game is ultimately FINE, and for some people that's good enough, which is also FINE. I also think a lot of the Praise stems from the shit canning the Fallout series has been getting recently thanks to a certain Game studio who has lost their way. That can be seen in the game's marketing when they say the whole "From the Creators of Fallout", which when you look at who from the OG Fallout team are working on it, I don't get too excited because my favorite Fallout devs and writers didn't work on the game (Chris Avellone comes to mind, others like Josh Sawyer and Brian Fargo as well). I say these names because I imagine Game development should kind of be like movies, with you seeing the people actually making the product to get a good idea of how it's going to be, especially in terms of game writing and direction. I don't mean to shit on Leonard Boyarsky or Tim Cain, I just know the others better and their previous work that if I saw their names attached to the project, I would be more interested.

I wanted to go into spoilers and stuff about the game that kind of jive with what I'm saying, but I don't want to ruin the experience for anyone and I think it's still worth playing, I just want to insert a counterpoint to the immense praise it is getting for a game that really is ultimately a FINE game.

I can do a short list of vague good and not good things I found though:

Good: Characters (Parvati, Welles, the other Companions, and so on), Gun mechanics (Basic but works), Quests (Except bits of the main quest), the game's setting and world building to an extent (would go deep into spoilers, but it winds up being fairly basic), Leveling system is unique and understandable, Slo-Mo is neat, and the Flaws.

Not-Good: The main quest (really, this game, like a lot of RPGs, shines on it side quests), the game's setting when you see how black and white it really is, the factions, like the rest of the game, are usually black and white as well, and WHY CAN'T I TAKE OFF THE HATS OF MY COMPANIONS WHAT THE SHIT. I'm missing stuff obviously, but that's all I got RN. Might add more if I think of any.

Anyway, this game is fine, you should play it, have fun, but remember if it can get a sequel to make everything better, then we will really be cooking with propane.

Just thought I'd get in and say it sometime before April, glad I beat the rush.

Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and new year!

Each new year and even Decade brings upon us as a race new unspeakable horrors. Let's hope we can mitigate this time around  8)

It's the normal one, though they're identical, so I'm not sure how that works as it's supposedly the hood thing inside it that's moldy. Maybe it's a bad batch?

Yeah, I don't really know WHY one has mold and not the other, but a bad batch seems like a reasonable explanation.
