Its good to see that research is progressing in these critical areas. Imagine a world in which those questions went unanswered? Its hardly bears thinking about.

I was thinking about this. One of the things that I used to love was the feeling that there was a Village. We used to talk about the locations in the Village, like the bar, Weasel's lab that sort of thing. Stories seemed to almost pop out of that image because it was easy to relate to.

I'd suggest two things in that light. The first is to do a write up on where the village came from, who it was and how it evolved into what it is now. More than that, let people know what we stand for - I like Doomsie's comments in the Facebook thread about why she didn't want the Village on FB. It made sense to me.

The other is redefine the village as a fictional location. Even create a document that lists the locations and if anyone is feeling creative perhaps even have a map or rough layout. That might even help Chucara's game idea because if we all have a similar idea of the village then it will feel more natural. Let each Villager define their own building or collaborate to develop some common buildings.

I guess when there is a basic layout, you can then evolve that into a logo/poster type idea..... Oh my, I am getting carried away.

I put dibs on the unwashed fire station!

I just read a blurb about LOL being added to OED.

There was a (probably urban legend) story about those who thought LOL meant Lots of Love:  a woman telegraphed (emailed?) her daughter:

"I'm sorry to tell you that your grandmother has passed away.  LOL"

I am not sure about that particular story, but my mum thought LOL meant Lots of Love until I explained it to her, so its plausible.

From my fading memory, it seems that it was a shower of tangerines for re posting, and I am pretty sure the recipe says no subsitutions, so as fun as BC in an orange suit might be, the rules are the rules.

Yeah Swash, still kicking mate. LOL If Black Saturday couldn't get rid of me, I figure I'll be here for a while yet.

Chucara!!! Its great to see ya mate!

Hehehe and thanks for the welcome Hoops. Good to see you guys are managing. Hehehe I remember the old days when Bubonic and I created the Blue Blazers to mediate the flame wars that used to occassionally crop up. Looks like, happily, the BBs are no longer needed :)

*shudders at the thought*

Not the cold, wet thing I had in mind..... LOL

Mind you, I have never had an invitation to the vestibule. But then I am kind of grateful for that.....

Hmmm I feel that I am being slack on my re entry.....

He staggers in from the wastes, the pre war fire fighting gear stained, torn and crudely patched. He lays a battered helmet on the bar and rubs a hand across his ash coated features, fatigue showing in every movement. "I'll have whatever you've got, as long as its cold and wet...."

Ahh now that is a little more in line with a traditional return to the Village posting.

Wow a lot going on. Hmmm its been a long time since I posted on a UV Forum so here is an update from the last few years.

Retrenched from my IT role MANY years ago and kind of drifted since then. My wife is working now and doing really well so that is good. I have two daughters and the oldest started high school today.

Have been a volunteer fire fighter for nearly 8 years now and have done a bunch of stuff that I never thought I was capable of. I have learned a LOT about myself through the brigade and am I not sure how much of it is good.

Kind of had a (and I will borrow Bubonic's terminology) mental melt down after the Black Saturday fires in Victoria a few years back, but I think I am back on track again now. That was a bad day leading into a bad month and I don't think any of us came out of it unscathed. I have to confess that I find it hard to sit in an office these days. I did spend last summer working for the local municipality identifying fire hazards and issuing orders to local residents to clean them up. It was a fun job.....

Ummmm I guess that is most of it. I am studying to be a counsellor (to those who know about this - yes, STILL) LOL.

But there are some very familiar names here and its great to see you guys. The last time I stopped by a UV board I didn't recognise any of the names, and this time I recognise nearly everyone. LOL :)

Wow! Some very familiar names here. As Swash said, we are in Victoria and were spared the worst of the floods, although fire fighters from my area were deployed up to the affected areas to assist the recovery.
