Unwashed Village / Vicious SPAM bot attack
« on: December 22, 2020, 10:16:59 PM »
Good news everyone!

We've had another spam attack. More precautions have been taken to ensure it'll be 2 hours longer before it happens again.

Hoopy was kind enough to help delete some of posts, and I have deleted all users without any posts. Unfortunately, this may also include legitimate users - in which case they'll need to register again.

E.A.R.L.'s defensive systems have been upgraded, and I've hired the only thing I could afford as extra protection: a relatively ill-tempered squirrel.

Hi Petrarch,

It's so nice to hear from you again. There is bugger all activity here, but it warms my heart that people are still dropping in from time to time.

Also, I obviously try to sell all your personal data to the internet people, so the more, the merrier. Though so far, only Facebook has responded to ask me to refrain from contacting them ever again and asked me to delete my profile.

I'm hopeful. Microsoft hasn't had the same tendencies as others *cough* EA *cough* at ruining good game studios.

I think they may make their games Xbox+PC exclusive though. Since Sony has so many exclusive titles.

Well. I quit my job because I found a better one. But I have a 6-month competition clause, so now I'm unemployed and slowly developing cabin fever from being a stay-at-home-dad.

But I bought a new 3D printer and I picked up miniature painting as a hobby, which is a very relaxing non-electronical passtime.

Welcome Ziggy. *obligatory random citrus pelting*

I'm really curious - how did you find us? We aren't exactly the most thriving community anymore.

"A hapless 20-something is forced to flee the city and hide out with a tribe of hippies after witnessing a brutal murder by a gang of criminal hairdressers."

I need to find this movie - solely to learn what a gang of criminal hairdressers is.

Yeah, so the thing about guys: we don't get subtle hints. We don't even get "cover my body in chocolate and wait for you naked on the bed"-level of hints.

Soo. Having read a few reviews and judging by the mob's reaction on reddit, I guess I'll give this one a pass. Also, I have zero time to actually play any games at the moment.

Any opposition, or is there something salvageble about this game?

Thank you for keeping the site alive, Chucara! I was afraid it was gone for good this time. Then what would we do?
Good question. Eat surströmning? Which as a Dane is what I assume Swedes do for the majority of their day.

Erhm. Ok.

The danger is over. We are all safe. I'd like to take the moment to appreciate that very few of you turned to cannibalism during this immense crisis. Keep up the good work guys!

Or don't panic, whatever.

Our hosts over at has pushed all their customers onto PHP 7.2. We were running an older version. Due to this, the site has been displaying a 500 error recently.

I have temporarily rolled us back to PHP 5.2, and I am upgrading the SMF forum software now. After this, I will roll back to the latest stable PHP version and everything should hopefully be hunkydory again.

Otherwise, I would urge you to panic.

Oh, do reply when you've played it a few more times. I'm a huge board game geek, and I've been pondering adding this one to the list.

Anyway, here's the news: I'm one week away from beginning the journey into Fatherhood, we're having (non-identical) twin girls. I need to figure out this parenting job as I go along.

Great news! You'll love it. At least over time. Sleep while you still can ;)

Ah, awesome - right up my alley as well. I've been working quite extensively with WPF, but am currently resigned to an older WinForms app until we can create a new version (we acquired an older system with source). We're working on an automated trading system for the energy market (power, gas, oil, carbon emissions, etc.), which is breaking new ground for me, domain wise. It also lets me join in a little on the analytical/data science stuff, which I find really interesting - machine learning in particular.

I'm slightly smitten by .NET Core and Docker at the moment, which of course doesn't really cover the front end. I use Angular for web, with TypeScript to keep my hands off iffy Javascript - at least until ECMAScript6.

Anyway, I would rant about this stuff for ages. Congrats on your new position. If it doesn't work out, come to Denmark - I can find you a job at my company with your background :)
