Title: What games have you been playing latly?
Post by: KMD on January 02, 2015, 11:46:23 PM
I recently beat Deus Ex (the original) for PC and, holy shit it was amazing. I almost never finish a game, so for me to put 30+ hours into something is an achievement. After finishing this game, I feel like my mind has been opened to nirvana game design. Sure, the voice acting is atrocious (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kihGm4KfY7k) and the combat is wonky, but the things it did right were so perfect.

Bought Destiny. Its really disappointingly medicore, if you haven't played it yet.

Also been playing a lot of Super Smash 4 for 3DS. I doubt anyone has this, but if you do feel free to add me, I usually main Dr. Mario or Game & Watch

2014 was one of the worst years for new games, but I know some of you still play games, so what have you been playing??

Bridge.

Ticket to Ride.

World of Warcraft.

Chess.

Sleep.

OK, that last one is technically not a game (all right, it's not even NON-technically not a game) but I like it.

Simpsons tapped out
Family guy quest for stuff
Words with friends
Hearthstone
And pvz2 daily things

I'm sure that's not what you really wanted. I've been trying to knit more lately and I need to get my ass writing again. I have a novel and a pilot episode to finish writing

The last three games I've been playing extensively are:

- Wolfenstein: The New Order
- Styx: Master of Shadows
- Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor

I didn't expect much of any of those games, but they all turned out to be to my liking.

I got a PS4 for christmas, ended up getting Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, Driveclub, GTA V and The Last of Us (Remastered, because the PS3 version is a year old, so it obviously needs to be updated).

I finished all of those games in a week. XD

I eventually forked out some money for Diablo III and I don't see what the fuss is about. Everyone said that it was inferior to Diablo II, so I knew that going in but considering that everyone who hadn't played D II was banging on abut it, I would have thought that it was like a Fallout 3 scenario of the game being a good game but not a good Diablo game.

Turns out that the game's... rather meh... It doesn't even feel like a PS3 gen game, more like a PS2 game, like Champions of Norath or something. It's not a bad game and it's kind of fun online (if you aren't partnered up with a God, who strides among the mere mortals, crushing anyone foolish enough to get in his way, under his boot. Whilst you're a level 2 witch doctor, who shimmies around, half naked, like a sex offender who was caught a few minutes after shitting himself) and it's not particularly a bad game, the spells and abilities are rather fun, especially if you're a witch doctor, like mwah.

I also got Neverwinter Nights 3 for PC, which I'm quite looking forward to. :P

Mobile games count. I loved The Simpsons, but Simpsons Tapped out seemed weird.

Bummer aboout Diablo 3. I still haven't played it. I think I like Diablo 1 the best.

I had Diablo 3 pre-ordered on PC, but ended up receiving the game in mail a couple of days after the launch. I had learned about the always online requirement and other problems with the game in the meantime and returned the game without opening the package. To further underline my decision, I gave the refunded money to a colleague for him to pledge on Grim Dawn on Kickstarter. I had already pledged $78 on it myself.

Grim Dawn is a pretty good alternative to Diablo. The game is not complete yet, but there's already plenty to enjoy. The first chapter of Act 3 was made available last month. I've been playing the game since alpha and I've clocked 94 hours on it so far.

I've pretty much been playing Wasteland 2. Not sure what I'll play when I finish. (Which with the amount I play games these days might still be a while.)

Probably Far Cry 4.

I recently got Soul Calibur II: HD, Online, Reaper of Souls, Mickey Mouse edition from the PSN store for £3.99 in the sale and sadly it's the best Soul Calibur game on the PS3/360 gen consoles. I swear, I'm starting to feel like a Sonic fan, waiting three years at a time for games that are vastly inferior to the games made ten years before it, made with inferior technology and presumably on an inferior budget.

Anyway, it's Soul Calibur II again but with a graphics polish and online mode added but the changes aren't completely aesthetic as you can now play as both Spawn and Heihachi on both the Xbox 360 and the PS3, whereas before they were console exclusives. Link, from Zelda, who was only in the Nintendo Gamecube version, doesn't feature in the HD edition but from what I've heard, he was the worst SC character ever.

I don't usually get shinier versions of PS2 games, especially when I already own them to begin with and Soul Calibur II looked so nice on the PS2 that it could have passed as a PS3/360 gen game anyway but it was in the sale and I felt like some nostalgic gameplay, so what the hell. That and I didn't feel like getting up to get the SC II disc off of the shelf and then changing the channel to AV1 and booting up my PS2, plus I've always wanted to play as Spawn.

Annieway as far as graphics go, they've 'improved' it by adding a shiny layer to the character textures, like they've put a layer of cling film over everything and it reflects the florescent lights as they bounce off of them. Though, come to think of it, that might just blind the opponent long enough for me to get the odd hit in, so okay, leave it in. To be honest, the backgrounds do look a lot nicer and more detailed though the human characters kind of suffer for the pixels being stretched, due to the fact that every character has a completely texture-less skin so it looks incredibly weird now.

Apart from that it's SC:II, pretty much unchanged, from the looks of it they haven't fixed anything, which is fine by me, because the millions of problems that PS2 games used to have just added to their charm and I don't remember SC:II having too many problems, looking back. I've found it fun playing through the game again as I've always wanted to play through the weapon master mode again and now this game has given me the excuse to do it.

If you missed SC:II, IE the best fighting game of all time (with the possible exception of Tekken 5), then now might be a good time to check this gem out. If you owned or still own SC:II, then at sale price, it makes Soul Calibur II rather fresh again and miraculously has more content than Soul Calibur V, though, come to think of it, I'm sure that there are Atari games that have more content that SC:V.

I guess I could talk about Vice City too.

I've been a fan of the GTA series since #2 on the Dreamcast. GTA V, which came out last October is a pretty amazing game. In fact, its probably one of the greatest games ever made, technologically speaking. But its a terrible game in the the GTA series. I'm still trying to slog through the single player missions. While the game does a lot of things great, It always felt hard to swallow, and until I replayed GTA: Vice City this week I never realized why.

Vice City came out more than 12 years ago on the Ps2. I played a ton of it over the years, but this week I got the PC version, and I have to say its some of the most fun I've had in months, maybe even years. Yes, I remember where everything is, and have almost every line memorized (the writing is about as perfect as it gets for a game), but after playing GTA:V I appreciate Vice City so much more.
GTA:V is a very dramatic game; There are 3 main protagonists, each with their own motivations and goals, and they often conflict with each other. The storyline deals with sensitive issues like divorce, backstabbing friends, government corruption etc. They put so much effort into the story that I often felt like I was playing an epic film instead of a game. Most missions are very involved and most have you doing steps for setting up later missions. Everything feels like a chore. Theres even one part where you literally have pretend to be a janitor and mop floors for 10 minutes, its fucking ridiculous. I want to shoot whoever thought that was a good idea. This game suffers from many of the same problems of GTA IV: too much focus on being realistic (but thankfully less so than GTA IV) over actually being fun. See, realism is games is rarely fun, or at least very hard to do both.

Anyway, Playing Vice City this week is so satisfying because everything is so instantly rewarding, I can't put it down. Theres one protagonist, and unlike the dramatic crybabies in GTA V, he rarely says much and its always very to the point. From the beginning its very clear his only motivation is money and power. While you could argue this makes him seem one dimensional, it keeps the players motivation to keep playing the most important thing. You're not playing to fix the characters problems, you're playing to finish more fun missions, or see what happens next in the story.
This is something that I've noticed about almost all new games; It takes way too long to get any sense of satisfaction. I love Skryim and GTA V even, but I hate how it takes at least an hour to do almost anything, even just completing one or 2 missions. As an adult, I don't have the patience to sit for hours only to complete a few quests out of 100 total. I guess thats why I was never into  MMOS.
Vice City is really immediate. Missions all take less than 10 minutes, but are exciting and satisfying, and every mission is only a couple of minutes from another. You get money and "mission completed!" as soon as you kill the guy you need to kill. GTA V has a really stupid map design, with a large sparse space in the middle, often requiring you to drive 5 or 10 minutes back and forth between missions. In almost every mission, after you kill the guy, you have to return to someone else, or drop somebody off, or call someone, before you get a reward. Everything feels really long and drawn out it and it kills the momentum. By contrast, Vice City is a game with no bullshitting around with character development, immediate rewards, and fast exciting gameplay. I feel like console games are on a slow decline because they treat everything like an epic film instead of a videogame.
Theres a reason why the greatest film is Citizen Kane, and the greatest game is Tetris, but they are very different from each other.

I kind of enjoyed GTA V but only, because it was the best of the games that I got with my PS4. If I had got it on PS3, two years ago, I probably wouldn't have finished it and, like GTA IV, it would have taken me five years or so to do.

I know what you mean about Vice City being more fun, I remember Canis Canem Edit being amazingly fun and having a story and characters that offered a lot on their own, without hours of conflicting cutscenes. To be honest, I blame this need to make everything into a redemption story, where protagonists spend the entire game talking about how they're tired about the killing and the needless violence as they drive on the pavement in a blood splattered car.

Just wanted to chime in and say that recently played Deus Ex: Human Revolution, and was disappointed. I feel like a lot of what made the original so fantastic has been lost, but that tends to happen when a series is revived after almost 10 years. I was excited when they announced the new Deus Ex game, but I can't help but feel the new generation of kids is going to think that Deus Ex is about slithering around every wall like a snake, performing cinematic kill moves, and generally being an unstoppable cyborg badass that everyone fears, when thats not at all what the series is about, but thats how the main character is portrayed.

Also I have been playing Chrono Trigger for DS, considered to be one of the best RPGs of all time.

I'll add in aswell.

I have been playing a lot of Old games by today's standards.

I recently uncovered my old PS2 and decided to go and buy a few games from Half Price Books, so I ended up getting another copy of Kingdom Hearts, Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction, Metal Gear Solid 2 and Resident Evil 4. I came to remember how much I love video games and the stories they can bring or the entertainment they can present to me, especially Kingdom Hearts which I haven't played for almost 8 years.

As for PC gaming, I've been playing and purchasing old games too, like System Shock 2, Grim Fandango, Planescape: Torment etc.

It's been a good time though.

Probably the newest games I have any real interest in has to be Fallout 4 and Dishonored 2. I guess I'm just out of the loop for new games.

After finishing Wasteland 2 I went on to Pillars of Eternity. After that I picked up Planescape:  Torment and decided to continue the game I started a few years ago and then got distracted from (plus, I'm a backer on the Numenera Torment game by inXile so I kind of want to finish off PS.)

I've also been alternating PS:  T with Dex (which was short and I finished) and Shadowrun Returns which I picked up for cheap during the Steam Summer sale.

I've been on this board for nearly ten years and it's the first fallout game I've played.

I tried GTA Online and I hated every minute of it.

I had high hopes for it, because Red Dead Redemption's online was so good, from what I'd heard, this was a much larger scale of that. Sadly and ironically enough, it's inferior in almost every way.

The game starts you off by dumping you in the free play mode, which is just a free for all, where everyone just kills one another on sight. This might sound obvious to some people but Red Dead had a freeplay mode with no friendly fire, for those of us who don't find the prospect of being repeatedly gunned down by people in fast cars, with UZIs very appealing. Sadly, GTA doesn't have this and instead just insists on putting everyone in one sandbox and telling them to get along.

If a person guns me down, I don't feel any desire to take revenge or beat them, because I know that I'm under equipped. Being a lower level, I can't get an Uzi of my own, all that I have access to is a semi-automatic pistol and a pump action shotgun and if I'm remotely visible to these players, even for a second, I'm dead. Yeah Rockstar, that's really fare.

I just felt so apathetic, it should annoy me or inspire me to be a better player but it feels more like a practical joke than anything. I decided to try and do something with a damn purpose and connect to the heists and quickly learned that the shittiness didn't end at the freeplay mode.

The game can take ages to connect and a lot of the times I was kicked for being too low a level, because apparently everyone who's a level 2 is a drooling moron, who can't do anything. And that's even if you can achieve a connection, more often than not I was told that the game was full and that I could join a queue or watch someone else have fun instead.

What is this, an amusement park? Remember when owning games at home meant that you didn't have to sit back and miss out and watch your friends play all of the games? I'm glad that we got over that obsolete school of thought.

Anyway, I attempted several heists, the majority of which are full of team members who are eleven years old or speak Spanish and have very loud domestic disputes, again another thing that you don't get whilst playing singleplayer.

I did manage to join a semi decent group of people and quickly realised a fatal flaw of the heists, if one person dies the whole mission fails. Yeah, because that worked so well in Battletoads and this is an online game, relying on four people around the world to not screw it up.

Every heist that I've been a part of has failed and only twice was I the one that died and one of those times was, because my team took their sweet time completing their objective, whilst I was chased around by fighter jets in a tiny propeller plane.

In Red Dead the consequence of someone dying on your team was that that person died on your team and that therefore you'd be a man down, I think that's a damning consequence on its own but apparently it didn't make it frustrating enough so they went with this instead.

The most annoying heist was the aforementioned plane one, this was the closest that I got to finishing a job. After someone, other than me, realised that we should use our headsets to communicate instead of sharing samples of Spanish soap operas with one another, we got really far in the heist but these missions go on and on and on, for friggin' ever. Bare in mind that there is nothing resembling a pause function, so including lobbies, cutscenes, dicking about, contingency plans for inevitable failures, you're going to have to give up an hour of your life to these missions if you want to complete one.

Now, how many people can honestly say that they can go an hour without phone calls interrupting them, without someone asking them to do a job, without friends messaging them or something even more important like needing to go to work or even going to take a piss? Nope, sorry, no time for that, you're playing GTA Online now, better record an answering machine message on your phone that says 'sorry yo but my video game doesn't want me to come to the phone right now, I'll call you back when I find a moment in its schedule.'

Since when did video games start dictating how I lived my life, this is such horse shit.

So anyway, my dad cooked my family a meal and I held off for as long as I could, a good five minutes but this shit just goes on and on and on and on, to the point that it's absurd. I'd rescued the hostage, got him on a plane and he was half way to Jamaica but that wasn't enough, I had to jump out of the plane, whip out a parachute and land a parachute jump to complete the heist.

Because I was not expecting this and had all but forgotten the parachuting controls since I played the game, last Christmas, I just didn't know what to do. There was so much pressure on this one moment, that I failed, pulled the cord too soon and crashed into a cliff face and died. Heist failed.

Are you kidding me!? The hostage was on the plane! He was half way to Zimbabwe! What the hell happened!? Are we all connected with some sort of device, that makes it so that if I die the hostage goes into cardiac arrest, like Escape to New York. Why does it matter if I fail to land a parachute jump after completing a heist?

This game completely crosses my bullshit threshold, it made me incredibly bitter and angry and it only exists to try and get you addicted to it, so that you'll be forced into positions where you'll have to disappoint people, defecate your pants and lose your job and relationships in order to make any significant progress in it. All of these problems are problems that were in NES games, one dies we all die was a problem with Battletoads, no pause was a problem with Ghostbusters 2 but the difference is that GTA Online was not made in 1993.

If you have no job, no friends, no family, you live alone and you haven't got anything to 'distract' you from the game for hours on end, then GTA Online is the game for you, otherwise I wouldn't recommend it.

I haven't had much time to play anything lately.
I did buy Pokemon Yellow after it was released for 3Ds.
The first generation (gen 1) of the series is amazingly simple, yet engaging. (yellow is the definitive game over red and blue)

I played a lot of Terraria for a few months, but I've gotten bored with it after I got the rocket boots and could fly to the islands in the sky. Comparing it to Minecraft isn't really fair because, although they have some core similarities, they are very different games.

Does anyone have a Xbox One or Ps4? How do you like it?

I like my PS4, but its factory hard drive is criminally inefficient with new AAA games. I own a third of the games on my PS4 compared to my 360 and I've already run out of space.

I've been playing Fallout 2 but it has been kinda difficult to focus on it since I got Battlefield 4. I think its a really good game when it works. Also I got this free game called Lords of the Fallen and its really similar to Dark Souls. Also i'm getting my Xbox One ready for Cuphead and Doom. I'm so excited for both :D.

Info on the new game is here:  https://torment.inxile-entertainment.com/

It's not Planescape like the first one. The world of Numenara was created by Monte Cook (one of the creators of D&D 3.0/3.5). Cook also is consulting on the game. A number of the people involved in the first Torment are also involved in this one.

Wait! Throwbacks? There's more than one? Is this how Bluecross feels during the Debenham sales?

I'm confused, not hungry though. I have pizza! No beer either, not even wine :'(

On topic; I've mostly been playing 'mock the 30+ year old underling that goes out playing Pokemon at lunch time." That and playing Star Trek: timelines and some crystal popping game on my iPhone.

My house is made of only slightly toughened glass but I feel like I occupy the moral high ground.

I've been plowing through the Fable series, I've mostly been playing 1 and 3 and I've just started 2. So far the first one is the best, since it feels the most like an RPG. Though I can't say that I'm getting too involved with the relationships and family side of the games to be honest, I've gotten married and have a home but in Fable 1 it's completely pointless since you can't have children and in 3 you can have children but all they do is whine and ask you for shit.

It's kind of difficult to care about any of the NPCs, since they all look, sound and act the same. It's like caring about one particular ant in an ant hill, you know for a fact that if you dropped it you'd forget which one was your favorite.

I enjoyed both games in different ways, though Fable 3 is criminally easy, I do like the different perspectives they offer and the moral dilemas. They're okay to a degree, though I feel like 'evil' is done horribly wrong. Most of the time good and evil offer the same reward and unless you're dead set on being a dick, you may as well pick the good option. The evil option should be more appealing, because it's more convenient or offers a better reward. For example, in Fallout 3, I was faced with the option of running across DC to find a pot of ink, so that an insane robot who thought that he was George Washington could write the declaration of independence with it or I could shoot him in the face and just walk past him. Obviously this is somewhat of a dilemma, since doing the noble thing is horrendously inconvenient and you'd be doing it for a robot who thinks that he's someone who's been dead for hundreds of years, whereas murdering him is wrong in many ways. It creates an inner conflict with the player and I don't think Fable does this or at least it doesn't do this  enough. In fact Evil's incentives are always pathetic, like 'if you do the evil thing, you don't have to walk as far' or 'if you murder your friend, you get a special prize...' and it just makes me roll my eyes at how pathetic their incentives are. I thought that evil was supposed to be more aluring than this!

Anyway, apart from that and dozens of other problems, I quite like the fable games. You can get the first one on steam, though it's really finicky with Windows 10, it still works and you can get them all on 360. I wouldn't recommend getting Fable 3 on PC, because apparently that doesn't work at all anymore.

I had been wanting to to play the Secret of Monkey Island games for roughly a decade but there were 2 problems: 1. They were very difficult to find illegally, and expensive legally because the series is from the early-mid 90s 2. The first 2 were designed for DOS so they have to be emulated on modern computers

Luckily, they recently remastered the first 2 for xbox 360 and released them for free (only) last month so I have been playing those. These games are hilarious!

Been playing through Batman: Arkham Asylum, those games are nearly ten years old but I've only just gotten around to playing them. In fact I've owned PS3 copies for five years but still, I've waited so long that I ended up getting the 'remastered' version on PS4.

I really enjoy it so far, as it feels like an interactive version of the animated series, which I binge watched a month or two ago. It's like a whole new way to get my fix.  :D

Fallout 3! I'm playing with a couple of mods to add weather, a little more vegetation and a mod to remove the green tinge, I added the mods mid way through playing and they've made the whole game seem a lot better.  I see there's a mod to add original Fallout weapons in, that's my next stop.

It also helps that I'm playing on a machine way more powerful than my old Core 2 Duo and 8800GT combo, for as good as that machine was it wasn't quite up for ultra with visual enhancements.

So far it is, granted, I'm not very far in, yet.

It certainly "plays" better than PST did. Then again, from an UI/UX perspective, very few RPG's have aged well.

Last week, me and my lifelong friend ended up buying Warcraft 3 again... God the nostalgia is unreal.

To celebrate, I used the world editor to create a large scale battle, where the humans and night elves fought off against the undead and the Orcs. I named it the Battle of the Bastards and I finally got to play it today, on a LAN game.

The battle lasted 45 minutes, around the length of the Anglo/Zanzibar war, the shortest war on record.

I've been meaning to play through the campaign again, one of these days.

All of them!  I am blessed with an independent woman who likes her alone time, so I continue to be just as huge as a nerd as I was fifteen years ago.

Electronically, uhm, persona 5, watch dogs 2, mafia 3, stardew valley, invisible inc.  Uhm, slightly farther in the past, I like Horizon: Zero Dawn a lot.  Looking forward to my immediate future, I want to play the new Yakuza.

In meatspace, I recently got a board game called Gloomhaven that I'm really enjoying.  I also played some Lords of Waterdeep and Catan with family last weekend, which were fun as always.

So I finished Torment: Tides of Numenera a few weeks ago.

It was a great game, but overall not as good as the original Torment. For the most part, the party members weren't as interesting. The game is also noticeably shorter. The combat was also a bit awkward for a modern game. I could go into more detail, but I will say the game is worth playing, and it's one of the better games I've played, but it's not going to make any "best of all time" lists like PS:  T did.

Right now I'm playing both DOOM and Fallout 4.

Yooka Laylee and Dark Souls 3

How you liking Yooka Laylee?

Its not awful, but disappointing. I'm a big fan of the first two BK games (especially Tooie) and Yooka Laylee's biggest problem so far is that the levels are HUGE but confusing. There's little indication of what to do or where to go, and its easy to get lost which can make it a little boring. The game has a lot of new characters, a few are great, but most don't make sense. Its not as polished as the older games, but I still recommend playing it if you like them. The humor is still good, and it does some things differently which I can appreciate. I'm about halfway through right now.

Binding of Issac: Rebirth. I've always liked roguelikes, they're like if you combined a D&D dungeon and let a computer AI go LARPING. Its not really a roguelike, but about the closest that most people can enjoy.

Finished Dark Souls 3. I basically hate the game, and never want to play the series again. Not because its hard, but because its frustrating for bad reasons. Sad to say that, because some parts were actually fun.

Theres a few games I feel I need to play soon too. Deus EX: Mankind Divided, Zelda: Breath of Wild, DOOM.

Boy, life is really going to suck when I get married and have kids and a career.

I mean, you know that's up to you, right?

I got a lady I've been with for around five years.  People keep yelling at me to propose; I keep trying to explaint that I am down but that lady is less down.  Then I think, maybe  I should pop the question and she'll go for it even though she's less down; but maybeshe won't; but ahahhaghahhhhhhh FREAK OUT

but the nice thing is that I continue to have total control over my life and problems.  I mean, I love the lady, she has input, but, uhm

basically what I am trying to say is that whole "OH GOD IF YOU GET MARRIED YOU LOSE YOUR INDEPENDENCE" thing

seems pretty stupid to me.  I'm gonna keep chasing this woman to the end of the world, and if at the end of the world it turns out she's irritating me, then I'm gonna bitch at her
hopefully she'll think maybe I ahve a point
but if she don't think that, I'll think, god damn, life is hard.

Boy, life is really going to suck when I get married and have kids and a career.

I've been married for almost 5 years and my husband has just as much gaming/computer time as before we moved in together. Hell, he even masterbates more than he did before we were married (while still keeping up the interest in me that I expect/hope for).

Your priorities will change on their own. Unless you seriously fuck up somewhere, it won't be like someone flipped a light switch. Life will be as it is now, exactly what you make of it.

I've been with my partner for about 10.5 years now. Main reason we aren't married is her massive amount of debt. We'd be common law if we lived in a state that recognized it. She's my domestic partner on my company benefits. At the end of the day, marriage is simply a contract that lacks legal consideration (and the only binding contract that doesn't require consideration). It's a piece of paper that carries some nice legal benefits, but at the end of the day, your either committed to your relationship or you aren't. Having official legal standing can make that relationship harder to break off, but that's about it. Marriage is overrated.

For the record, I was totally kidding. Gaming will be a part of my life presumably for a long time, marriage won't really change that because my partner will accept the things i'm passionate about. But I do think and hope that when I settle down, that I'll find meaning in other things and playing games will have less significance. In a way I've been getting slightly bored of gaming lately anyway.

I've been playing quite a bit of Fallout 4 lately (buried under a ton of mods, naturally), but mostly I'm still playing Elite Dangerous, and still telling Turjan's stories on YouTube ("Turjan's Travels" is up to 33 episodes now...a crazier total than even all my UV scribblings!).

Well, I say still playing Elite, but recently I came into possession of an Oculus Rift, so now it's not really playing Elite, but a feeling more like actually being in a spaceship and flying around the galaxy! Yes, the difference really is that great.  8)

Don't think I'll be trying Fallout 4 in VR though...no one should ever get that close to a giant naked mole rat in full on 3D...  :o

How did I not know Turjan made youtube videos?

I've been playing some Skyrim recently and the new XCOM 2 expansion (which is how it's DONE!) Never played Skyrim until now, actually, which most find surprising, it is to me as well.

Never tried Elite Dangerous and I've given up caring about Star Citizen so who knows, maybe I'll give it a gander once things settle down a bit in real life.

Oh, and been playing a ton of Stellaris. If you like strategy and 4X games it's a hell of a wonderful time sink!

Quite a few!

Uhm, let's see.  As far as new games, right now I'm playing Evil Within 2, Fire Emblem Heroes, and Super Mario Odyssey.

I'm also playing Invisible, Inc., Dungeon of the Endless, and XCOM 2:WOTC, but I'm kind of always playing those three, so they don't count.  Oh, and Overwatch, I replaced League with Overwatch.

Uhm, going back a few weeks . . . I played Middle Earth: Shadow of War, it was better than the first one, but still annoying.  Besides that . . . some indie stuff, but I can't really remember the name of anything I specifically played recently, so none of it was probably that interesting.  I've also been rereading Tad Williams' Otherland series, which I first read like 20 years ago.  It's nuts; 20 years I go I was like "THIS GUY KNOWS WHAT THE FUTURE IS GONNA BE", and now, I'm like, "Shit.  He wasn't far off."

I tried to get into Elite: Dangerous, but while it looked super cool, I didn't think I could spare enough time to get good at it.

I've been hooked on Crusader Kings 2.

You'd think after chopping off a guy's arms, legs, penis and then proceeding to slice his nose off and then plucking out one of his eyes... you'd think that he'd finally get the message that plotting to kill your son isn't the smartest of ideas.

I should've killed him at this point but in all honesty, I kept him around as a work of art. I figured I'd wheel him out, whenever the in-laws came over.

CK2 is an amazing game with amazing stories to experience. My friends played once and one of them became immortal, lost and then REGREW his penis at least five times.

As for me, we played a game where we made Jewish characters in the Middle East trying to recreate the Kingdom of Jerusalem. Anyway, my first guy became obsessed with astronomy and built an observatory, which eventually lead him to a cave in the desert. What did he find? The Fucking Necronomicon. So that was neat, made him smart but drove him to insanity which lead to his death. Welcome to CK2

I snagged the Grand Theft Auto collection on Steam for cheap recently and have been playing GTA 3. Its one of those games that I have only dabbled in, but have been wanting to complete for a long time.

Its one of the most important 3D games of all time, but also has many flaws (you can't jump out of moving cars, there is no full in game map etc.). As a fan of the series, I started with GTA 2 and finished all the main 3D games. I'm mostly through, and definitely appreciate it as a stepping stone from 2D to 3D. Some things were brought over from the first 2 games, like the story focus on gangs fighting for control of the city, that aren't in the later games much if at all.

I was VERY impressed by GTA V at first, but could only get about half way through before getting tired of it. The characters were overly dramaticized, and the missions very drawn out while scolding you for failing. You compared this to GTA 3, where the player character has no dialogue, is never named in game (not a compliment though), and failing a mission just keeps the game going with no pause, giving you the choice to go back and restart if you want to or just drive off to do something else. As the series got more successful, it lost its arcady roots. Its like the difference between an 80 minute comedy and a 3 hour drama.

Also had been playing State of Decay 2 on Xbox. Its pretty neat. Like a combination of Fallout 3 and Dead Rising.

Nonsense, I think being stupid and just doing what your gut says can make for some interesting Crusader Kings 2 shenanigans
