Title: We need a reboot
Post by: Night Owl on December 17, 2009, 03:45:46 PM
This is sad, but true... we're dying a slow death here. Not that we'll ever bring it back to its heyday, but we can do better than this.

A suggestion:

One forum - Let's go back to one general forum, where everything goes (figuratively and literally). We don't have the membership to support multiple forums. If stuff goes too fast and gets knocked off due to link posts, arguments, etc, so be it. I'd rather too fast than too slow.

Then a mass e-mail announcing such.

Thoughts?

Not that I'm really around anymore, but I agree. The place is on its last legs and has been for a while now. A little shot in the arm wouldn't hurt, certainly nothing to lose by it.

Let us not forget :-
"That is not dead which can eternal lie, And with strange aeons even death may die..."

And with that in mind, so it is that this talk of dying a slow death can elicit a response from those of us among the Unwashed whose cybervessels long ago drifted out into the fathomless reflective waters of the Lurker Sea...like myself and "Tin Man" Petrarch here, evidently. ;D

But let's lay that piece of metaphysical flotsam to one side for now... ;)

Aye, I concur a forum rejigging of some manner or other might be of use, if for no other reason than it IS a change, and a change can be as good as a rest, some say...whereas others say the only constant in the universe is change. And there are yet more others who would maintain that Exact Change Only is the real answer.

So why not indeed?
Bring on the trumpets!

Sounds good to me. We can always split other forums off again if the day should come where our posting activity goes up again. All I really need is for the other admins to give their consent and if anyone objects for some reason they should probably state so in the near future. I figure giving people until the end of the holidays is a good time frame for everyone to weigh in.

I absolutely agree.. I just bought a house today, and this would usually be the first place I'd go to post about it. Instead of *shudder* facebook.

I don't think we can really bring back the glory of the old UV - heck, I'm not even certain it even existed in the way I imagine it now when I think back, but we can damn well try to create something that better than what it is now.. Which is pretty much lacking in direction.

Come 1 January, it'll be my 10th year anniversary.

Personally, I think we could restore this to some of it's former glory by trying to get some direction as to what we want this place to be. Right now, it's just a place to post funny links and read up on what people are doing around the World.

I never thought I'd say it, but the UV needs more crazy.

I agree as well, even though I might only post once every few months. I don't contribute much, but I'd hate to see the UV fade away. I definitely think we need a direction, facebook and other social sites kinda kill activity on message boards like ours.

Good to see you all, even if it's slow around here :P

I didn't have the chance to read the suggestion, but I fully support it.

Someone please notify me in 3-5 weeks as to whether or not I supported the proper side.

Hello my lovies!

Hello my lovies!

Since there doesn't seem to be anyone objecting, it's probably the proper side.

Now I just have to get off my ass and do it one of these days.

Oh, and hi!

I do agree, but it is funny when i have the time I still always come back here to see what it happening, even if i have been gone for months the village is still here, but i agree we are lacking in crazy.
How is the big question...

Can we have a retcon instead; like Ultimate Unwashed Village? Wherein Bluecross is a woman, Sylvie is a clone, Doom is a robot, I'm a wise-crackin' Black guy, etc.

Oh that could work! What about having BOTH versions and reap the profits from both?

Yes, but the two versions must never cross over, because that would mean we ran out of ideas.

However, if one of the Villages discovers a third Village wherein everyone is a zombie, then the zombie Village may freely interact with both versions of the non-zombie Village.

Can our zombie alter egos run around craving tangerines and spam?

I think in the Zombie Village, Rott would be the only human. (You raise an interesting but sadly unexplored aspect of the Marvel Zombies franchise, though. What sort of condition is zombie universe Simon Garth in? If a zombie bit him, would it cancel out his existing zombiism and make him human, or would it override his voodoo-based zombiism in favor of the virus-based flesh-craving zombiism that we've already seen?)

EDIT: Okay, I guess he does show up in Marvel Zombies 4, but still, that's a little slow on the draw. That should have been a "first page of the first issue" sort of thing.

I came back to see if the change would actually happen.

I am also drinking some apple tea.

From this, you can conclude nothing.

Since we have gone through a momentous change, perhaps another topic for discussion.  Our current (semi-current retired-semi-current retired-current-retired-died-resurrected-lurking-dead) member pool is pretty much limited to people who are currently active or were once active members.  That's a small group.  Very few people happen onto us and join now, is there a way to change this and attract a larger set of new victims? Is this a desirable thing?

for those on firefox with the stumble addon, we could all just add unwashed and see what happens?

I wrote a bunch of long drunken bullshit and deleted it, it boils down to, you're all boring as hell.  Relax.  Write some shit.  Have a few drinks and ramble.  Tell some jokes.  Catch an STD.  The original village rode the crest of the wave of the metaphor of the- whatever.  Say some interesting shit!

Fuck, I'll write some more Thanatos News And Weathers if I have to.  I have tomorrow off, maybe I'll see if I remember how to be funny.

Well, maybe we'd have more members if someone finished a certain project by the name of Mr. T versus the Enclave and circulated it amongst the netizens to get us some publicity. I swear, I think only Maddox rivals San Andreas Vault for time gaps between updates.

Maybe Chucura can start a google adword campaign for us?
I actually just got canned from a search engine marketing firm, and it would be a minor breach of my NCA, but I'd be willing to do an ad for the UV. I have a pretty wide breadth of work. I once worked on a campaign for a preschool and a stripper college in the same day.

The best part was they specifically said to avoid the word "stripper" in the client notes. So I cranked out this little gem. I was let go soon after.

Heh...

The trouble is... it's been so long that nothing I can create will measure up to the wait. It would just disappoint people.
