We (those of us on the political right) have heard that word from our adversaries for quite some time. Let's do a little compare and contrast.
http://hotair.com/archives/2009/04/16/video-john-zieglers-arrest/A conservative journalist is put in handcuffs and threatened with arrest for trying to ask questions of people attending an award ceremony
at a journalism school for Katie Couric. He is obviously not blocking a doorway. He's just outside the building trying to interview people. The area isn't crowded.
http://hotair.com/archives/2009/04/15/fiasco-amnesty-thugs-break-glass-shut-down-tancredo-at-unc/Here we have a conservative speaker (Tancredo) who is stopped from beginning his speech by protesters blocking the doors. When those protesters are finally cleared (with pepper spray and possibly tasing) he starts to speak. All of a minute or two into the speech protesters inside try to drap a banner in front of his face while those outside break a window in the room which effectively ends his speech. No arrests are made. The protesters win as they've disrupted the speech and none of them even got into trouble for it.
Now I'll be the first to say that Tancredo has gone way over the line of reason when it comes to his views on immigration. Still, this is a free speech issue. Even the ACLU is coming down on his side.
Now before the argument is made that the Tancredo thing is an isolated event, I'd remind you of the numerous cases like this where conservative speakers like Coulter, Malkin, Gilchrist, etc have been threatened and had their speeches interrupted. This has occurred at universities across the country. Again, I'm not saying I agree with those speakers. This is a free speech issue.
So I'll ask again, which side is acting like fascists here? Whose free speech is being squelched?
