Eight years of hoaxes and 'we'll see's...
I'm not getting my hopes up, I fear that F4 has the HL3 effect on me, where it's just been too long to get hyped up about it. :(
-
I hope Bethesda has learned from Obsidian how to make a post-apocalyptic world that is cohesive and alive for this one.

checking in from the Hype Train!

From the looks of it, they have improved the overall colour and look of the game. The gameplay segments of the trailer look amazing, the CG bits... a little less so but I can deal with that.
The feral ghouls look amazing as do most of the creature and location designs and the whole game looks very atmospheric and alive, I look forward to it.
-
Pretty stoked, but...
Given that FO3 was a huge success for the series and Bethesda, and judging by the trailer, I'm sure they'll stick with the same formula. Honestly though, that would suck. I couldn't imagine playing a game like FO3 now and being blown away, since many other games have taken design cues from FO3 since then. It was cool 6 years ago, but now not so much. I wish they would take some risks and inspirations from 1, 2 and NV but I don't see it happening. Also, frankly the graphics in the trailer look very bad by modern standards. I expect lots of invisible walls and detailed but static and totally non-interactive environments.

Agreed.

From what I've heard, another company made the CG dog scenes for the trailer, other than Bethesda, the ingame scenes look quite good to me.

Hm, interesting points. But I'm probably still gonna get the game :D
-
We'd still buy it if it was still isometric I'm sure ;D, NV was superior because of the setting and feel if they tie that down it's going to be an awesome game.
-
I've actually never played NV but I guess this helps give me a reason to.
I didn't think the graphics looked that bad and it did seem to fit the theme as well as the later graphics looking better once they started showing off Boston. As long as the gameplay is solid I'm good.
And now to bide my time until the steam summer sale to buy some Fallout games since my CDs are far away.
-
Main problem with NV was that it was buggy as hell. Obsidian is great at making interesting worlds, not so much at bug testing.
But if you get it for PC, by this time between official patches and mods, there shouldn't be many bugs left.
-
I don't remember NV being littered with bugs, at least not to the degree that most people have said. I remember someone telling me that NV was so bad, that it was unplayable and it baffled me completely, I honestly wouldn't be surprised if that was just the 'cool' thing to say at the time.
-
Sandru, New Vegas is definitely worth a play-through, just think of it as a large expansion pack rather than a true sequel. The gameplay quality is at least as good as FO3, and the writing and quests are much better. I think there are something like 2-3x the number of quests as FO3 and most of them are quite interesting. One other thing the game did really well was give you several large scale moral choices that directly affected the outcome of the game, and the society. NV is one of the few games that has done this right.
I don't remember the game being terribly buggy but I do remember tons of invisible walls; Nothing was more infuriating than climbing a mountain only to not be able to reach the summit because it was surrounded by invisible walls, and the devs didn't want you to get there before the related quest. Also, lots of high-powered enemies that prevent you getting to certain areas too early. Fucking cazadores.
-
Cazadores can break a man. I tried to get to the Great Khans and took the Cazadore infested route that brought me to tears....
It was a hard day indeed.
-
I hate Cazadors to the point that I just used to use the alien blaster on them, I don't even care how cheap that is, the assholes deserve it.
-
Cazdors earned my hatred too they always got my longest range, highest damage weapons. I preferred fighting Deathclaws.
-
So yeah.
That Fallout 4 E3 stuff. They are gonna try and do A LOT of shit with this game lol. I'm excited
-
I've seen it, might need to build a games capable PC again or upgrade my Macbook; I doubt it'll run well on an HD3000.

That was my experience as well. It had bugs, but compared to the initial release of Morrowind it was nothing. At no point was my save game obliterated.

I was actually in my local Game retailer the other week and a guy said that he avoided it, because everyone told him that there were millions of bugs in NV, that made it unplayable. Me and the two cashiers looked at eachother (IE the people who had actually played the game) looking incredibly confused by that statement. So I really think that it was just the cool thing to say at the time, I had the game on launch on PS3 and didn't encounter any problems, other than my PS3 bricking half way through the story campaign, forcing me to start it again but again, that's not really the game's fault.

On a side note, I've pre-ordered the Pip-Boy edition of Fallout 4, can't wait! :D

Bah! I missed out! I'm still looking around for one. It's okay if i don't get one I'll still duct tape my phone to my arm while I play if I have to.
Also, http://www.bethblog.com/2015/07/24/fallout-shelter-august-update-android-mr-handy-and-new-threats/
Can't wait to try that. Any iOS people already playing it?
-
It's entertaining for a short while but I've not found much to keep me coming back to it. Still worth an install once it comes to android I think, if only for the 'it's fallout' aspect.

November 4th
-
The game sounds better and better everytime they reveal more
* Customizable Power Armor and Weapons
* Power armor that acts like an Iron Man suit (Which I think is a great representation for Power Armor)
* Companion Romance regardless of Gender (Yes)
And probably even more to make my nips hard.
-
The games sure to be amazing, and the prospects of what quality Modding can do, make it even better. :)

I think the console versions suffered a bit from what I've heard. I played it on PC on launch, and can't say that I remember encountering any serious bugs. Personally, I blame Sony and Microsoft's patch policy (devs have to pay extra to release patches for their games).

Sony and Microsoft's patch policy (devs have to pay extra to release patches for their games).
That is completely fucking insane.

I'm jelly. How's the construction? I have the FO3 lunchbox one and love it but the base is hollow and it is top heavy and will fall over easily. (thinking about filling in weight in the bottom)

Stands up just fine on its own and it's head is extra bobbly, seems to be an improved version.

12 hours!
Is anyone getting the game online tonight?
Review embargos were lifted this morning.
Here's the link to the IGN review

I read the IGN Review and I decided to check out other reviewers so here's Jim Sterling's review:
http://www.thejimquisition.com/2015/11/fallout-4-review-s-p-e-c-i-a-l/
It's a good read and talks about a few positives like companion relationships in a little more depth I think.
Don't worry, it is mostly spoiler free, nothing story wise.
-
I convinced my parents to buy me the merch bundle for Christmas, an easy thing to convince them of as they didn't know what to buy me.
(Don't worry, I've spent way more than £100 on presents for them both. :D )

Happy Release everyone

Kind of disappointed that reviewers across the board seem to say that the dialogue and story are quite mediocre considering that they were pretty core to the original games. I guess we can blame Bethesda for that, especially since its something they have never been very good at. From what I understand, skills and dialogue options are very simplified even compared to FO3, can anyone confirm this?

Though the dialogue is simplified it does feel a lot more organic than Fallout 3, behaviour seems a lot more natural.
-
Yeah, I'm kinda happy with letting my character to actually say what they are "saying"
-
...Sony and Microsoft's patch policy (devs have to pay extra to release patches for their games).
Sony I could see, but Microsoft? Microsoft, the company that patches their OS to death because they can't get updates right the first time around, or the second .... third ... ever? I mean really, how many times can you release another update to fix the same damned thing?
I don't know, I played NV recently on Linux using WINE and on Windows 10. I didn't see any game breaking bugs, maybe they were fixed already, dunno. Either that or they're trying to play on outdated hardware. Only thing I really didn't care for was the shallow character development and having an otherwise pristine vault that was filled with cement.
-
Finally got the time to play and man....I *think* I'm halfway-ish through the main story line but there's an incredible amount of things to do I keep getting side tracked for DAYS.
I wonder if we'll ever learn what went on in other places like Russia or China after the bombs fell, I love all the places we get to visit but it'd be neat to have a DLC or somesuch dealing with a little bit of what happened outside the US. That's assuming I just haven't missed it if it's already there.
-
I don't have space for a full computer set up any more and if I ever manage to carve out a little it instantly gets filled with Children's toys. I have however discovered Splashtop it's basically VNC software that allows full 3D acceleration so I've set up a modest gaming machine in the corner of the room and now I can play Fallout on my Macbook! I'm only a little bit through but it's awesome, it feels more Fallouty than Fallout 3 and very different from FO3 and NV. I die a lot, far more so than the previous games but that may be my lack of practice.
I may get half way through in about a year.
-
Sometimes, I feel like I'm playing Borderlands when I'm playing Fallout 4.
Mostly in regards to A LOT of the quests being simple "go here and kill everything", no weapon degradation so you don't need to maintain your weapons (Even though it wasn't in the original Fallout games, I still liked it in FO3 and NV), I enjoyed the vocal character but the speech options are laughable and are an illusion of choice sometimes, you don't need to worry about your character too much at the beginning of the game because you can change ALL of your special skills.
Also no Ron Perlman.
Now there's this whole thing about people wanting Obsidian to make another Fallout
