So I just finished replaying Fallout, and Fallout 2 with
« on: March 13, 2008, 02:25:58 PM »
The Fallout 2 Restoration Project unofficial patch, which adds a whole mess of things that didn't make it into the official release due to the lemmings not jumping off the proper cliffs in the proper order...or something...Things that were still included in the programming but not implemented until some brave and bored soul took the time to fish around in the guts of the game and reel them out.

Anyway, I never realized just how big the Fallout 2 world was compared to Fallout 1, having mostly just breezed through it the original time I played and not really playing much differently any successive trips through, in so much as I never really went continuously out of my way to thoroughly discover all the little secrets hidden in the nooks and crannies of the game.  Actually pretty impressed with how much stuff was left out of the official version. Hell, there's even a few Red Dwarf references, which pleasantly surprised me.  (There's a bit where you find a broken toaster, and after you repair it, dialog lifted directly from a Series IV episode ensues *points at his signature below*)

If you're needing a Fallout fix, I'd recommend downloading this mod/patch if you haven't given it a try yet!

LISTER: Look, I don't want any toast, and he doesn't want any toast.  In fact, no one around here wants any toast. Not now, not ever. NO TOAST.
TOASTER: How 'bout a muffin?
LISTER: OR muffins!  OR muffins!  We don't LIKE muffins 'round here!  We want no muffins, no toast, no teacakes, no buns, baps, baguettes or bagels, no croissants, no crumpets, no pancakes, no potato cakes and no hot-cross buns and DEFINITELY no smegging flapjacks!
TOASTER: Aah, so you're a waffle man!

In Wasteland, you had a toaster repair skill that you could use to fix the various broken toasters you found. They always had good loot in them.
All right, I’ve been thinking, when life gives you lemons, don’t make lemonade! Make life take the lemons back! Get mad! I don’t want your damn lemons! What am I supposed to do with these? Demand to see life’s manager! Make life rue the day it thought it could give Cave Johnson lemons! Do you know who I am? I’m the man whose gonna burn your house down – with the lemons! I'm gonna get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down!

Google is your friend!  :P

Here's the link to the NMA forums where I initially read about it:  http://www.nma-fallout.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=464608 , though you can download it just about anywhere.
'Bout five paragraphs down is the download link, and a little further down all the fixes in the lastest version, and a little further after that is a list of all the new content and changes to old content to make the new content relevant found in patch.

It definitely breathed new life into the game for me!

What is especially cool is that I think I've done this before but completely forgot about it so now I get to do it new all over again!

All those who are surprised say "aye".

bumpity bump!

started playing the Restoration patch a few days ago. new things i've encountered so far are the Abbey and Primitive Village, and of course that bastard Kaga... when i first read about him in the Fallout Bible, i was like "hey, that'd be cool if it was in the original release." well, i take that back.... great idea, just way too unbalanced.
