The old board got hacked. Given its age and that it wasn't the first time it happened, the powers that be upgraded the software.

Now we have double-layered fiber coatings so that hacking attempts take waay longer and wake everyone up before any real damage is done.
That and the auto-turrets have been upgraded from "paint" to "industrial strength glow-in-the-dark acid."
