Sounds a little like the V13 boards (am I remembering right?)
There's planning involved here though....
But no doubt with more competent admins. I would have loved to be a fly on the wall in the admin forum there when the fingers started pointing as to actually wrote the script that finally broke that camel. IIRC, they completely fercokt the thing to the point that the database was unrecoverable and they lost pretty much everything. After that board borke, entered Lance, who was known as Mr. Fuck You on the AOF board (and pretty much the chief admin there) way back in the day before he essentially left the AOF due to creative differences of where he and Bullock wanted to take the thing, though there was no bad blood, just differences in goals. (Incidentally, the AOF is still around, and I still spend some time there, though, it's really nothing like it was having largely been melded with two other communities.). Anyway, Lance hosted us on his Vault-Tec board, which he set up as a Fallout Tactics clan and gave us full autonomy, as had Vault 13. But FOT had a lot of issues, and it didn't have a very long lasting community, so Lance gave us plenty of notice that he was going to shut down Vault-Tec. Then RadioactiveRob, one of the former admins from Vault 13 hosted us on his own personally owned domain and was tech admin while Turjan, Paladin/Petrarch, and someone else I forget were moderating admins. Everything went swimmingly until Rob got all power trippy and started moderating the debate forum over the heads of Lara and I. Which led to all sorts of fun drama, not the least of which was Lerk chastising Lara and I as hypocrites when we had nothing to do with it, and were just as surprised at the whole business as he was. So then we moved on to a free site and I was brought on as a moderating admin while chucara was brought on as tech admin. We used a free host for a while, but ran into a lot of speed issues, so we started paying for our own hosts through donations from the admins and other members. Originally petrarch managed the funds, but later BlueCross took it over. And then Chucara gave us part of his own host domain, and that's where we stand today.
As far as the offer, I will say I am intrigued. I'll need to discuss it with the other admins (i.e. BC, Swash, Chucara, and possibly the other guy, but he doesn't come around much anymore so we won't wait for him) and would like to hear what the rest of the community thinks as well (even you formerly active now lurking types, you know who you are). However, don't expect a decision for at least a week, since I'm going out of town to Origins gaming convention later this week and will not likely be around much.
