Sorry to hear about your father, but glad to hear that things seem to be looking up.
All right, I’ve been thinking, when life gives you lemons, don’t make lemonade! Make life take the lemons back! Get mad! I don’t want your damn lemons! What am I supposed to do with these? Demand to see life’s manager! Make life rue the day it thought it could give Cave Johnson lemons! Do you know who I am? I’m the man whose gonna burn your house down – with the lemons! I'm gonna get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down!

Hopefully things are a lot more stable now.
Sorry to hear about your Father. It seems you're never 'old enough' to be able to take losing a parent, it changes you.

Your shop sounds like an odd place, I guess it's almost like a post apocalyptic general store, like Chet's?

My family cat of 17 years died a few weeks ago. He had been very frail and mentally slow for the past year, so it had been coming. But when you have a pet for that long, its like losing a good friend who really knows you

This year I will make a serious attempt to curb my drinking/smoking habits. I guess I just want to live a "normal functional" adult life that doesn't involve frequent drinking (especially alone)

My car is on its way out (2001 Toyota Corolla) and I need to look at getting a loan for something newer. Buying a newer car, its a scary proposition. I couldn't be happier to get rid of it though, had it for 3 years and disliked it since day 1. I would like to get a small SUV like a respectable adult.

No, not quite post apocalypse,  just a small town place that basically is a relic.

It some how seems appropriate.

Sorry to hear of your Cat Kmd.... ive got a cat that I worry is coming close to the end of her life as she is OLD and no one knows exactly how old... was literally  found on a door step in the rain. Seems like yesterday but was coming up on a decade ago.

As for cars.....

Dont feel bad, the newest vehicle  ive ever owned is the 97 Chevy Blazer I drive these days lol....
Back from the Wastes after far, far to long....

A lot of good things have happened for me since the start of the year, in no particular order:

Got into a relationship with someone who I feel is a good personality match
Moved into my own apartment in a wonderful quiet but hip suburb close to everything
Read the first book of Rim World series
Just got a newer fun sporty car to replace the old rust bucket I had
Got a stable job downtown, an area which I enjoy working in
Got my wisdom teeth removed
I live right next to a train station, and I commute to work by train everyday
(It feels great to commute by public transport, and I dislike driving to work everyday)

Now I just need to get a cat and I'll have everything I need to be totally satisfied

I hear you. My last workplace was 1.5 miles away. I walked to work and back every day. My current workplace is 2.3 miles away and my home is a couple blocks from one train station and my workplace is a block from another. I take the train in the morning and walk home in the afternoon.

I hope I never have to commute by car again. I did it for many years and hated every moment of it.

I'm currently saving to get a place with my girlfriend. I have more hours at work, more responsibility.

Not exactly been feeling great with it, I have been blaming the change in routine but I'd say there is more to it.
Spending a lot more time with the refuser kids, just sitting in silence as an ornament as they do their best to test my patience.

I feel bitter, all the time. It's not good, not for me or anyone. Head's like thorns, twisting and sinking into my brain.

It kind of reminds me of how things were, five years ago. I hope it passes soon.

Congrats on the promotion at work.

I would live by yourself for at least a year before you cohabitate, if you haven't yet. I never lived with a significant other, but I did live with my best friend and a platonic girl last year, and both were challenging. Living with someone you have a relationship with can be fun, but is harder than it sounds, and really stresses things. Chances are, she will notice every tiny mess you make, so you'd better keep the home completely spotless.

I don't mean to sound like a downer, but job issues don't just pass on their own, in my experience. You should try to figure out the root cause(s) of your frustration and change those. My partner works in child care, and its indeed tough.

Thats awesome Hoopy! Our traffic is not nearly as bad as Chicago's, but I feel environmentally responsible when taking the train. Ironically, its also liberating to not rely on my car to get me to work, and mostly use it for pleasure and not commuting. We have a fatal shooting every month or two on the train, we had one yesterday, so I do wish it felt safer.

Thanks, this was actually quite uplifting. :)
The job's gotten a bit better, since I've been given more meaningful work and I've gotten used to the hours.

As far as living with with my girlfriend goes, I think it would be preferable to living on my own. I have mild insolophobia, so I'm not sure how well living on my own would go. My girlfriend isn't that uptight, when it comes to keeping the house straight.

I hope that having my own space will make organization easier. I'll be able to organize better, if I have more control of my own space.

Probably just wishful thinking on my part. :>

Things are still going pretty good:

That relationship didn't work out. I got dumped in July. I didn't love her, but I DID expect it to last longer. Is that selfish?
The "stable job" I talked about in May was actually a temp position they had been dragging me along for 6 months. "We're gonna keep you on for another 2 weeks" every 2 weeks. Eventually I got permanently hired as a dispatcher, which I did for a month, but I wasn't ready for it, so they moved me to Billing, which is fine. I still get experience in the field I want to work in. Really a PITA to get my foot in the door but I guess it usually is.
I still take the train to work and I love it. I generally only drive my car "for pleasure" and not commuting and its very liberating.
I've thought a lot about moving out of St. Louis over the past 2 years, to another medium sized city, and if given the opportunity I probably would.
IDK what it is about being 28 but a lot of people I went to HS with have gotten married this past year.

Heres a picture of my car, and of me when I was a toddler so you can enjoy the 90's nostalogia.

What types of jobs are you looking for? :'( :'( :'(

My career goal is to get into exporting. Right now i'm looking for Logistics/Supply Chain management jobs.

I so read that at first as "My career goal is to get into escorting".   :'(

Well. I quit my job because I found a better one. But I have a 6-month competition clause, so now I'm unemployed and slowly developing cabin fever from being a stay-at-home-dad.

But I bought a new 3D printer and I picked up miniature painting as a hobby, which is a very relaxing non-electronical passtime.

There are indoor pastimes that don't involve gaming?

Working in a school has been made a nightmare by covid restrictions and having the worst prime minister of all time at the helm.

On the bright side, I'm getting an apartment with my girlfriend soon. :)
