Oh, and how do you swing the camera around in the XBOX version?

Hold the left bumper in 3rd person mode and use the right thumbstick to move the camera about and zoom in/out.

Thanks.

I also seem to be one of those who couldn't figure out how to turn the PipBoy flashlight on. I had to look that one up as well.

PipBoy has a flashlight? Lol. That would have been quite useful...

I killed Burke right after he shot the sheriff (because I thought he was gonna shoot me.) Everyone ran away, though - looks like the game really didn't want me to do that :)

I actually saved the sheriff. I went into VATS mode as soon as I saw Burke going for his gun and shot the pistol out of his hand. He then ran into the kitchen, picked up a knife and attacked me. Then I blew his head off. :D

I'm having much fun with this game :)

Me, I just blew Burke's head off by going into VATS the minute I saw him reach for his gun. Burke seems to be fairly slow you can get a couple headshots on him before he can shoot the sheriff. Also, he takes two shots to whack the sheriff, so you should be able to get all your VATS shots off (I had enough action points to do 4 shots) before the sheriff dies. (I actually replayed that scene a few times to experiment with different ways of trying to kill him. I found 9mm to the head seemed to be the best. On the final time I did this, I critted his head on the second shot and he went down.) Oddly enough, you don't get anything for that other than the sheriff going on about how he must be getting slow in his old age and some loot from the now dead Burke. Moriarity also seems to be completely unfazed by the now dead body in his front room. I've also heard that the sheriff must be alive in order for you to get your house in Megaton, so you should have either disarmed the bomb before turning Burke in or make sure that you don't let the sheriff die when Burke takes him on.

(BTW, if you haven't done so, reading Moriarity's computer is amusing.)

In the XBOX version you hold down B, rather than bringing up the PipBoy, it turns on its flashlight.

I think you hold Tab in the PC version.

WTB [500lbs of carry capacity]. I'm sick of walking to Megaton <.<

You can speed-travel via the map, you know.

Anyway, I found a good way to get the int bobblehead before level 3. (So you can start your character with 9 int and then only sacrifice 2 skill points overall to get an additional +1 for a SPECIAL stat.) When you get to Megaton, take Moira's radiation quest. Then head on over to the Potomac and go swimming. Follow the river to Rivet City. There will be two points where you will come under attack. One is while you are in the water--dive town to help avoid the damage, and one when you jump on the land to get to the Rivet City bridge--just run past, the supermutie is far enough away. Then go to the science lab in Rivet City and ignore everyone (except for the guard at the entrance who you can't avoid talking to.) After getting the bobblehead, return the way you came and go back to Megaton via the Potomac. You should be pushing 500 rems by the time you finish. Drink some of the Potomac to cure any damage and get your rems above 600, then talk to Moira.

You can't fast-travel if you're overloaded. Kiwi appears to be a masochist for not dropping some loot and making speed runs.

I'm a loot-monkey. I must've spent 2 hours just looting Evergreen Mills and Fort Bannister. So many Combat Armors, can't leave them lying around. There was a supermutant behemoth at EM, that sucker took a hell of a lot of bullets before he went down.

Also finally found a deathclaw. All I have to say is NICE! They make the Yao Guai seem like harmless puppies.

It does seem to easy to jump ahead of the main quest. I was supposed to do a quest at Galaxy News Radio to find where my father had gone, then I do a side trip to Rivet City and find out anyways.

So going off of Petrarch's list it appears the ones I somehow missed are "Big Trouble in Big Town" and "Blood Ties". Any idea who I talk to for these?

You have to find the settlement Big Town in the wastelands (roughly N-NW of Megaton), and there is another little settlement called Arefu that's on the remnants of a dead-end overpass where you can start Blood Ties.  actually there's a girl named Lucy somewhere that wants you to deliver a letter to her family in Arefu that might start the Blood Ties quest, can't remember where she is though...Megaton, I think.  Maybe Rivet City...

She's in Moriarity's bar in Megaton. Arefu is also the location of one of the useful bobbleheads (yeah, I'm using the fallout 3 wiki guide for the location of the bobbleheads), though I haven't been there yet.

Quote
it seems like I may have ended up in Rivet City before I should have, like I missed something in between and it didn't quite add up.  I got to Rivet City and started talking to everyone and all of of sudden certain people where acting like I knew I was supposed to come talk to them 'cause I was hot on the trail of good ol' dad...

You probably did. Rivet City is part of the main quest, so you should have been quested to go there. I snuck in for the bobblehead, but made sure I didn't talk to anyone so to avoid triggering any quests prematurely.

If you come at Evergreen Mills from the cliffs above it, you can snipe the shit out of all the raiders there - if you're boring.  The bitchin' awesome thing to do is to blast the miniature generator that powers the Behemoth's cage.  I popped it with my sniper rifle from way up in the sky, then I sat there and watched while the behemoth obliterated the whole encampment before I put it out of its misery.

We've known each other for many years but this is the first time you've ever come to me for counsel or for help.

I've learnt mah lesson. I pick up what I can from the raiders I kill, repair stuff until I can't repair anymore, then pop some buffout >.>
I have yet to be addicted to anything. :D
Also, just a note, you can't fast travel when you have enemies detected. I was hiding in the bethesda ruins and wanted to get away... had to leg it for about 30 seconds before I could no longer pick them up on my compass :P Also, the traps raiders put in place beyond the typical mines are brilliant! Getting shot in the back by 3 linked shotguns wasnt fun :P
Repair suddenly jumped to waay more important on the list of "put points in this naow" :)

Northwest Seneca Station. There are a couple of ghouls running a Jet-lab there, a room beside them is full of radioactive barrels. There is a sewer cover in there, go down and you're on your way.

Also here's a handy wasteland map I found.

Oh shoot. Trying to remember how to get there. I think I asked for advice and was given three places where they were seen. I DID have to go into a metro entrance at a railroad to find them. So they're underground.
Will I get Night Owl points for quitting but not as much for getting fired?
Will I still be a member of the Owl's Pals? I'd hate to turn in my card. It's got a real owl feather under the lamination and everything.

Night Owl: Oh, indeed. I quit many a job ...better than being fired. You can keep your card... in fact, you get double points for quitting!

It's where Jeff said. Just be prepared because it's easy to get turned around in there.

First I figured they weren't much of a big deal. Then I got into close quarters with one and it was like: "Where'd my head go?"

I'm keen to try out whether you can make an unarmed specialist that stands any chance against one. Power armor is propably a must.

Even with power armour a deathclaw can make a mess of you if you give it half a chance.

Typically I dealt with them via a combat shotgun blast to the head and later, the plasma rifle.
