a cry for help
« on: September 25, 2008, 10:22:35 PM »
and probably not the help that most of you think i need.

i'm taking a cinema class this semester and we have to present a movie to the class. my professor doesnt want it mainstream (ie: hollywood). we're working in groups and have to find a film about a 'major issue.' our issue is addiction, more specifically we would like to find something about perscription drug addiction

thusly, my plea is for a recomendation of a movie about addicition that didnt come from hollywood. if i was being really picky i would ask that it was more from an area in north east europe or northern asia, but that's just because i've never actually seen a movie produced in that area.

ty!

Make the pills some sort of sentient creature that turns people into addicts thus ensuring the survival of it's breed.

eg. Without someone to use us, we'll vanish.

Oh and put a bicycle and a picnic basket in the background. I always see bicycles and picnic baskets in European films.
Will I get Night Owl points for quitting but not as much for getting fired?
Will I still be a member of the Owl's Pals? I'd hate to turn in my card. It's got a real owl feather under the lamination and everything.

Night Owl: Oh, indeed. I quit many a job ...better than being fired. You can keep your card... in fact, you get double points for quitting!

we're not making the movie, just screening it.

but that might be an idea for my script frenzy this year...

edit:
now that i think about it, i think i'd love to see bill bailey in it.

Can't help you with the prescription drug thing, but...

Maria Full of Grace is about drug trafficking. Don't know if that qualifies.

Or use Metropolis and say Fredersen is addicted to power/standing (that would impress me.)

Or Nosferatu is addicted to blood.

Reefer Madness (AKA Tell Your Children).

Hey, it wasn't made by Hollywood.  ;D

(See, Hollywood is more factually accurate.  8))
All right, I’ve been thinking, when life gives you lemons, don’t make lemonade! Make life take the lemons back! Get mad! I don’t want your damn lemons! What am I supposed to do with these? Demand to see life’s manager! Make life rue the day it thought it could give Cave Johnson lemons! Do you know who I am? I’m the man whose gonna burn your house down – with the lemons! I'm gonna get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down!

"Will of Iron" is in Chinese/Cantonese and "Earth and Water" is Greek with English subtitles. There were several different choices of foreign films about drug addiction.

No matter how much you push the envelope, it will still be stationary.

Nil by Mouth?

Or you could just go for a cop out with Trainspotting.
