recomend a movie
« on: July 26, 2008, 02:23:09 AM »
not something currently in theatres (though i do highly recomend wall-e for everyone), cuz ticket prices are kinda high and i'm more than kinda broke.

i currently recomend Wristcutters: a Love Story.
basic plot: guy off's himself and ends up in an afterlife where it's just like home.

Zia (main char): "everything is the same here, it's just worse
In case of rapture, can I have your car?

I just saw that movie! Very good! =)

This one is good but they give away one (or two) of the best surprises in the traiiler.

Death at a Funeral Trailer

Will I get Night Owl points for quitting but not as much for getting fired?
Will I still be a member of the Owl's Pals? I'd hate to turn in my card. It's got a real owl feather under the lamination and everything.

Night Owl: Oh, indeed. I quit many a job ...better than being fired. You can keep your card... in fact, you get double points for quitting!

Shadowlands - story about C.S. Lewis in his later years when he met his wife. Anthony Hopkins and Debra Winger star. Very good drama.

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang - strange but funny film noir-ish movie. Stars Robert Downey Jr and Val Kilmer. I've just seen the edited for TV version so I have no idea what kind of objectionable content might be in it though.

Second Hand Lions - must see movie IMO. Robert Duvall, Michael Caine and the "I see dead people" kid whose name eludes me atm. Very family safe.

My Big Fat Greek Wedding - saw this in the theater when it came out and it's very good. I put it here mostly because I think a bunch of people over looked it due to the odd name.

Awesome movie, that was a god 90 minutes of my day :)

For those of you loving guts and gore, go buy/rent "300", I still enjoy watching it now and then, just elaning back and cheering the Spartans on.

I just watched In Bruges last night.

Absolutely, totally awesome. With Ralph Fiennes, midgets and dark dark comedy.

My 3 favorite movies to watch at home:

Big Lebowski ("the chinaman is not the issue here.")
Hot Fuzz (Shawn of the Dead dudes make the funniest movie I've seen in 5 yrs)
The Rundown (solid, fun action movie starring the Rock)
love, fish

My grilfriend and I watched that about two weeks ago.

It was a little weird trying not to picture Gleeson as the Mad-Eye Moody character from the Harry Potter Movies.

All right, I’ve been thinking, when life gives you lemons, don’t make lemonade! Make life take the lemons back! Get mad! I don’t want your damn lemons! What am I supposed to do with these? Demand to see life’s manager! Make life rue the day it thought it could give Cave Johnson lemons! Do you know who I am? I’m the man whose gonna burn your house down – with the lemons! I'm gonna get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down!

I've never watched Harry Potter, but I've seen him in plenty of other movies, including Gangs of New York and Troy. Good actor.

"My kid could paint that!"

Documentary about Marla Olmstead, 4-year old modern art painter (maybe).

Fascinating.

for Clash/Joe Strummer fans, The Future Is Unwritten. it's pretty much the life of Joe Strummer, from beginning to end, with interviews with various friends,  musicians and some actors.

i also finally saw Ratatouille. it's cute  :)

and to recommend a bad movie, Wanted: Undead Or Alive. zombie western!

Hmm.. Just off the top of my head:

- Pathology (Thriller, Gore): Great, but slitghly disturbed
- Stardust (Fantasy): Best fantasy movie since LotR, and Robert DeNiro as a pirate!
- Dark City (Old mystery, sci-fi, matrixish): A pleasant surprise.
- 12 Angry Men (Drama): Classic movie about a jury trial

"Diary of the Dead": Horror  (an interesting twist on the "camera-in-disaster" genre, with zombies....and romero.)

"Origin: Spirts of the Past": Anime (An anime movie, Dunno how everyone here recives such things..... but an interesting take on the classic TETOWAKI setting.....)

"Boondock Saints": Action(?) (Awesome movie, If you havent seen it, you would prolly enjoy it.)

OH, and a movie to either run screaming from, of run towards (depending on your tastes....)

"Dead moon rising" : Horror(ible) (wow, just wow.....)

Back from the Wastes after far, far to long....

To those who remember such things, Was once Known as "Darkness Flame" (A looooong time ago)

La Collectionneuse by Eric Rohmer was a filthy little movie I recently watched.  Dialogue heavy, very well done.

Both Yojimbo and Sanjuro by Kurosawa are also recent favorites.

Obligatory music documentary reference, since I'm a nerd...

Glass: A Portrait of Philip in Twelve Parts just came to theatres finally but it's available on DVD. I've only seen some of it (I was between things so I had to leave in the middle) but it's pretty awesome to see how this bizarre musician is just your typical family man.

As far as other movies currently NOT in theatres, I'd recommend (for completely different reasons):

High Fidelity

Real Genius

Fargo

Murderball
