The year was 1997 or 1998, and I was home from school with a massive case of bronchitis, which meant about a week off and lots of daytime TV, and that was when I first discovered "Monsters".  It aired in a block with Tales from the Darkside and Amazing Stories if I remember correctly.  I remember seeing some not-yet-famous faces like Seth Green in a few episodes and even the lady who voices Lisa Simpson, but by far the best episode had to be the one with the nuclear fallout shelter besieged by mutant holocaust vampires and the only way in is through a multidigit number lock on the outside and there's one guy left alive inside, since the two other survivors had ventured outside to see how things looked and he sees his buddy, a guy who, while human, had been working on a crossword puzzle and trying to figure out a eleven-letter word for "tenacity", outside who has been turned into a vampire.  He tells the guy he's figured out the eleven letter word for tenacity: persistence and proceeds to punch in code after code on the door:  1111111...1111112...1111113.  That's how it ends.  I've always thought that episode was creepy as all hell.

This is from the Old new Twilight Zone (The one from 1985). Spoilers.

Quote
Jonathan Ward is a nerdy kid who is regularly picked on by Jason Presson. That is, until the Shadow Man, a mysterious entity made of darkness, defends him in recompense for being allowed to stay under his bed, vowing "I will never harm the person under whose bed I live." Many deaths occur in town and a mysterious dark man is accused causing everyone in town to fear the night. Jonathan, who knows who is behind the deaths challenges Jason to fight him... at night. Jason is afraid, but as he is surrounded by friends, he accepts. That night, he meets Jonathan in the playground. They are about to fight when the Shadow Man appears behind Jonathan. Jason runs off and Jonathan starts to give the Shadow Man his thanks for helping him out but is interrupted by the Shadow Man throttling him. He doesn't understand why, as the Shadow Man has already explained that he would would not harm the person under whose bed he lived. The Shadow Man then explained to him that while that was true, he was the Shadow Man from underneath ANOTHER kid's bed.
Will I get Night Owl points for quitting but not as much for getting fired?
Will I still be a member of the Owl's Pals? I'd hate to turn in my card. It's got a real owl feather under the lamination and everything.

Night Owl: Oh, indeed. I quit many a job ...better than being fired. You can keep your card... in fact, you get double points for quitting!
