With the same passion he played with as a New York Giant, George Martin plans to tackle a walk across America to raise money and awareness for the ailing heroes of 9/11.
On Sept. 16, the former captain of the Giants' 1986 Super Bowl-winning squad will begin A Journey for 9/11 from the George Washington Bridge.
"We're going from the George Washington Bridge to the Golden Gate Bridge," Martin, 54, told the Daily News yesterday. He hopes to raise $10 million to pay for medical treatment for 9/11 first responders, and rescue and recovery workers suffering from chronic lung ailments. Nearly 70% of those who responded to the smoldering Pile have since developed lung problems, according to a study by Mount Sinai Medical Center."
