Unwashed Village / Re: What's going on in your life?
« on: July 05, 2016, 08:14:54 PM »
My coworker had to get rid of a pair of rats due to lease issues. Last week the rats came to us and my husband was amazingly excited. 36 hours into our care one of the rats passed, the only cause we can find was stress due to the move. The other rat was grieving but responsive and we were discussing the appropriate time to get her a new cage mate to help her over the grief. Last night she crashed and this morning we took her to the vet. We were too late to help her do anything but pass peacefully.

I know animals can hide being sick and that stress can and will speed up what would otherwise be a treatable illness. I know it's hard to comfort a grieving rat who lost a lifelong cage mate, especially when there's all sorts of other factors to count on like moving in with strangers. It feels like there should have been more for us to do even though I know it's just wishful thinking.

My husband is taking it hard while I'm caught between grief and practicality of facts. We had a chance to fulfill a promise that was made before my husband's dad died and it didn't last long. He's withdrawing into his natural grief response and I'm typing this. I wish there was something I could do for him but all I can do is wait and watch time.

I'm not sure I follow you. Work has gotten you in a bad mood, and now you're asking for a movie to make you feel even worse?

I wanted a cathartic cry. The idea was to build the emotions to the breaking point then the hormone release to would ease some of the emotional stress of holding my tongue.

Unwashed Village / Movie reccomendations
« on: February 24, 2016, 08:55:24 AM »
Work has been a bitch lately and extrememly emotionally draining. I need a good sob story reccomendation to reset myself. You guys got any ideas?

As a genral reccomendation I'd say Jackie Chan's "Project A" and "P roject A 2." There are some great classic farce set ups and Jackie Chan plays the quintiscential Jackie Chan Character. (The man has 2-3 basic character archtypes he plays. It's worth it to spend the time binging his movies on netflix, if you actually need an example of his work)

"Little Big Soldier" is my favorite of Jackie Chan's work so far. It's Chinese history and Jackie Chan singing and I didnt know that was a combination I'd love to see more of.

(Why yes, I did just finish watching all of Jackie Chan's movies on Netflix last week. How did you know?)

I had a criminally warm winter  :(

I bitch a lot about snow, but now I miss it.

Come to the Midwest of the U.S. We're having freezing rain mixed with snow right now in Chicago, and other parts of the Midwest are probably having similarly shitty weather.

I'm 7ish hours north of you. The ski hall of fame is 20 minutes away. Olympians come to train in our snow. I think you've gotten more snow this winter than we have. (Though we have a winter storm advisery quoting 4-10" right now, 2" last night)

Questioning the "universe of monkeys"

As in a paralel universe of monkeys they would not have the ability to create the works of Shakespeare?
There is a one in a trillion chance they would comunicate in a human understood language?
Would they even give a shit? Would we give a shit to replicate the literature of a monkey universe?

I enjoyed it the brief few days I played it. I'm on an ipad2 most of the time and it kept crashing. I might try again now that I might be able to play on my phone, but it's designed as a time waster without a goal. Dont think I really need a time suck that much
