Unwashed Village / Re: Online Piracy
« on: March 05, 2011, 07:45:33 AM »
I used to be somewhat anti-pirate, but now I don't care - my stance has definitely softened. I look at it this way: if you had the disposable income, you'd likely just buy it, as it's always more time consuming to take it. Hence, I don't see the pirate as a lost customer - I see him or her as someone who would not have bought it in the first place.

I definitely used to download music before itunes, because there was no other way to get it in digital format (ripping wasn't as simple as it is now). Now I'm an itunes junkie - I probably spent 1k there in the last year or so. I buy WAY more music now than I used to.

I have bought pirated DVD's off the street in NYC because I wanted to see the movie now - in almost all cases, I bought the legit version when it came out. Yea, I'll take your invite, Shady. :)

Also, in what Shady said about PC Gaming.... it's prettymuch dead. There was no bigger PC Gamer than I - I still have 100+ games in my back room that I just can't part with. But the gaming experience on the xbox 360 and a PC are night and day. PC's are still great for strategy games (I wish they'd do another Myth game), but that's about it - the xbox does everything else waaaaay better.

:tacks "ways to revive the village" letter on wall:

I say we bring back the Debate Forum. Having some issues to debate/discuss might spice things up. And the Gen Disc thread seems really disorganized. Maybe even bring back the games thread, since they're a pretty hot topic. Why did you even combine them anyway?

And see what someone can do about these Spambots?

Feel free to Add

I was the one that suggested "all one forum", but I did like a good debate...

I just spent an evening in my hot tub. Yea, I gots me a hot tub last year. Hot tub / ale / wife = nice evening.

That was my point with the shtick. (Oh God, did I just write that)
*shakes head*  You and your pointy shtick...geez...   ::)

If we want the community to continue, even if it isn't in the same form as before, we need something to bring people here. And right now, the "theme" is that we are all friends or varying degrees. But there is nothing to bring in fresh members.
I suggest blackjack...and hookers...and a lunar lander....and ale, of course!  Or maybe just strippers...and ale, can't forget the ale...   :o

P.S. Why the hell aren't the emoticons working?!  And has anybody heard from Doomsie lately?  Or Night Owl?  They seemed to be fairly active until recently...hrmmm...

I am here, and I know Jen is still around. And how are you?

I've tried to get suggestions about this very topic last year. Suggested maybe a facebook page/etc... but that doesn't have the same "feel".

Maybe nothing will ever have that feel again - it was all so new. Online forums / online friendships were "not" the norm - back in 1998, it was special. Here in 2011 (has it really been 13 years? Wow), it's just not that big a deal anymore.

Still, I have hope :)  I'm here now, ale in hand (really).

For example, look for the following titles on the DVD market "Debby really needs to get home to her kids, but seriously we are really compatible and she'd so see you again" and "I just don't know about third base II" and "Drunk enough for a mistake, but not drunk enough for you."

Ok, this really made me laugh.

Okay seriously, then I'll drop this. I'm filing my mp3's since it's the end of the year and I really want to have an excuse to file the Goo Goo dolls with Nickelback, but I'm not sure if they'd fit better in the "pretentious crap" playlist vs. the "alterna pop frat rock whatever" play list. Recommendations? Thanks.

I wouldn't really say they're pretentious. And I don't even think they're that bad. (Though, the guy at Blender would disagree, since he put them in the 50 worst bands of all time list.)

They're just not that good or noteworthy. You could file them under "Forgettable".

That's a big category.

I would think an adult website would be smart enough to hire a non-virgin to be their spokesperson.

I really miss being able to play Masquerade and Bloodlines, they probably had some of the best atmosphere in games I've played for close to a decade. One day I'll find something that will let me play VtM and the Silent Storm games on 4+ gigs of ram. ^_^

I keep telling myself I'm going to put together an older machine with win98 just to play old games.

Then I realize that old games are better left in the past.

Holy crap does that look good. Methinks I'll be buying my first PC game in years tomorrow.

I like it a lot - it seems to be the deepest "roleplay" of the series so far. They also nerfed the traits you could pick in the beginning - no more being "gifted" and starting with six more attribute points (did anybody NOT take that one?)

Enjoying it now on normal difficulty, but I'll definitely be going through a second time on hardcore mode (ammo has weight, you need to eat and drink, etc).

you know, it's funny - I'm definitely at the point where computer specs really don't matter anymore. Console gaming has prettymuch killed any need for super-duper video, and any computer surfs the net and runs MS word respectably.

Computers are like TV's now - it dies, you buy another.

But welcome back, Weasel.

I'm writing this with tears in my eyes, sorry I did not inform you about my trip.I actually made a quick travel to Liverpool in (United Kingdom) and unfortunately attacked and mugged at gun point on the way to my hotel where i stayed, all cash, credit card and cell were stolen off but luckily for me is that i still have my passports with me.

I`ve been to the embassy and the Police here but they're not helping issues at all and my return flight leaves anytime from now but I'm having problems settling the hotel bills and the hotel manager won't let me leave until i settle the bills.

Am freaked out at the moment and i need your help right away.
