A lady that I really like is also really into Crusader Kings 2.  Sadly, I am too stupid for that particular game.

Y'oughtta just ignore it, man.  You're about to make a big mistake.  Trolls want attention; they want you to react.  Either your community is strong enough to laugh that shit off, or you're fucked either way; if you give them attention, it's only gonna get worse.

Crusader Kings 2 is straight up free on Steam right now, so people who advocate for it should advocate hard.

I put a few days into far cry five and I am super butthurt about it.

Maybe other people will be into it, I'm not trying to hate.  All I am saying is that if anyone wants to jaw jack about far cry five, I have some opinions.

Unwashed Village / Re: Vault Tec experiment ideas

I'd honestly never thought about that before!

I like the rude robots idea, but you gotta flesh it out more!  Can the people get what they need by sucking up to the computers?  Can they get what they need by standing up to the computers?  Inquiring minds want to know!

Okay, I have one, but I don't think vault-tec has the technology.  The vault is equipped with a supercomputer that constantly analyzes people's blood pressure, facial micro-expressions, etc, and immediately buts in and tells the truth any time anyone lies, down to the children.  Not just bad lies; ANY lies.

"What did you think of my dinner?"
"I thought it was great, honey!"
"ALGORITHMS INDICATE THAT SUBJECT ACTUALLY FOUND IT DISGUSTING"

"I'm gonna do it, I'm gonna go for the position of Overseer's Assistant!"
"You're gonna do great, babe, you deserve it!"
"ALGORITHMS INDICATE YOUR PARTNER ACTUALLY DOES NOT BELIEVE YOU DESERVE IT AND YOU WILL NOT DO GREAT"

Man, could people even have relationships if they couldn't tell each other white lies?  Or would we just be animals?

Quite a few!

Uhm, let's see.  As far as new games, right now I'm playing Evil Within 2, Fire Emblem Heroes, and Super Mario Odyssey.

I'm also playing Invisible, Inc., Dungeon of the Endless, and XCOM 2:WOTC, but I'm kind of always playing those three, so they don't count.  Oh, and Overwatch, I replaced League with Overwatch.

Uhm, going back a few weeks . . . I played Middle Earth: Shadow of War, it was better than the first one, but still annoying.  Besides that . . . some indie stuff, but I can't really remember the name of anything I specifically played recently, so none of it was probably that interesting.  I've also been rereading Tad Williams' Otherland series, which I first read like 20 years ago.  It's nuts; 20 years I go I was like "THIS GUY KNOWS WHAT THE FUTURE IS GONNA BE", and now, I'm like, "Shit.  He wasn't far off."

I tried to get into Elite: Dangerous, but while it looked super cool, I didn't think I could spare enough time to get good at it.

Thanks again for stopping by and contributing Than. I wish I could randomly drop by, be the center of attention, and disappear again like you. If you see this, let us know how you encountered each other again because you are kind of a dick about giving up details.

Hahah, what?  That is certainly not my intention!  I mean, I always try to post in a way I think will be compelling and interesting, but . . .  doesn't everyone?  I mean, I certainly am a dick, no argument there, but I just stop by sometimes and try to say something worth reading!

As to how I met her again, uhm.  A mutual friend of ours contacted me and asked if I wanted to go to a New Year's Eve party at the end of, uhm.  Six years ago . . . 2011?  After she said Christine was going to be there, I immediately said yes.  Then, uh . . . I don't know how to express this exactly.  I was extremely determined to get back together in a way that was not creepy or harassment.  Like, y'all gotta believe me, I am woke, I am very aware that the behavior typically depicted as 'romantic' in romantic comedies is actually stalking, harassment, and worthy of prosecution.  At the same time, sometimes you gotta put the work in.

So, at the New Year's Eve party (It was at the big-ass hotel at the National Harbor in Maryland, MR DETAILS) I was like, "Hey, Christine!  We should get back together!"  And she was like, "Good idea!  Or, alternatively, you could go straight to hell!"  And I was like "Fair enough!  How about maybe we just see each other next week?"  To which she said yes.

Then, a week later, I was like "Hey, Christine, we should get back together!"  And she was like "Let me make a counter-proposal!  Go fuck yourself!"  And I was like "You raise a valid point!  Let's discuss it further next week!"  And she said yes.

So that went on for, I don't know, maybe three months?  And then we kissed.  I mean, more accurately we kissed again, but it was the first time in a decade, so I feel justified in the phrasing.  So then we continued to see each other extremely frequently for months and months and months, which entailed me driving many, many, many miles, as we lived 120 miles away from each other at the time.  I recognize that 120 miles doesn't seem that far, but you have to understand, there were many weeks where I came to see her twice, which meant making the drive four times.  I had to press my case while simultaneously, you know, having a job and keeping myself alive.

Even once we started smooching, it probably took another year and a half before she would admit we were together.  My lady got backbone.

Also:  Just in case there are any literature nazis out there, I stand by my repeated us of the word 'like' above.  I considered swapping it out for something more erudite, but the fact of the matter is that I can't remember the precise words used, and 'like' is the best way to say 'this is basically what was said but probably not the exact phrasing'.   That's right:  I think using 'like' like a valley girl has a valid linguistic justification.

For me, it was probably when I met my lady.

Let's see, I'm 33 now.  16 years ago, at some dumb party, I met a lady. We, uhm.  We acted like teenagers.  We made love and we yelled at each other and she became determined to never speak to me again.  I don't blame her.

A decade later, we encountered each other again.

Uhm.  Some other stuff happened.  For some reason, we're now together.  Long story short, I am with a lady that I am pretty enthusiastic about, and we met each other 16 years ago for no reason.  Just random chance.  That being said said, as loathe as I am to admit that I have emotions, I don't know.  I guess you can't deny them.  Now, with her permission, 16 years later, I'll never fucking let her go.

So yeah.  The first moment I saw my lady.

Unwashed Village / Re: Best Premade Character for Fallout?

Yeah, I hate to be unhelpful, but I am too much of a weirdo to pick any of the premades.  I become anxious when I can't be a white knight in video games.  I've probably played fallout 1 like, I dunno, ten times?  And I always do the same stuff.  Save everybody!  GOTTA SAVE EVERYONE!

Try Invisible Inc.  I bet you'll like it.  There's a plot, but not the kind you get invested in.  Try Invisible Inc.

I mean, you know that's up to you, right?

I got a lady I've been with for around five years.  People keep yelling at me to propose; I keep trying to explaint that I am down but that lady is less down.  Then I think, maybe  I should pop the question and she'll go for it even though she's less down; but maybeshe won't; but ahahhaghahhhhhhh FREAK OUT

but the nice thing is that I continue to have total control over my life and problems.  I mean, I love the lady, she has input, but, uhm

basically what I am trying to say is that whole "OH GOD IF YOU GET MARRIED YOU LOSE YOUR INDEPENDENCE" thing

seems pretty stupid to me.  I'm gonna keep chasing this woman to the end of the world, and if at the end of the world it turns out she's irritating me, then I'm gonna bitch at her
hopefully she'll think maybe I ahve a point
but if she don't think that, I'll think, god damn, life is hard.

Grow the fuck up.

All of them!  I am blessed with an independent woman who likes her alone time, so I continue to be just as huge as a nerd as I was fifteen years ago.

Electronically, uhm, persona 5, watch dogs 2, mafia 3, stardew valley, invisible inc.  Uhm, slightly farther in the past, I like Horizon: Zero Dawn a lot.  Looking forward to my immediate future, I want to play the new Yakuza.

In meatspace, I recently got a board game called Gloomhaven that I'm really enjoying.  I also played some Lords of Waterdeep and Catan with family last weekend, which were fun as always.

NECROMANCER!

It's okay.  The gameplay is fine, but the story and dialogue are so generic that I can't even come up with a good metaphor.  Wait, no, I got one, it's like the department generic brand fantasy story.  If you haven't played Pillars of Eternity yet, play that instead.  It's real-time-with-pauses combat instead of turn based, but it's a vastly superior game.

That's rough news about your father Hoop.  My condolences.

As to the whole "gotta pay off 215000 bucks before we can get married" thing, uhm, that's a huge amount of money.  I'd just get married.  Listen to your signature!

AcdQueen, yeah, I look forward to being the disreputable uncle.  It should be fun as hell.  I worked at an assisted living facility for a number of years; it can be weird (and super gross) but it was always very rewarding.  Grats on the new job!

Unwashed Village / Life!
« on: October 23, 2014, 10:10:36 AM »
So, life.

I'm super sad that because Robert Jordan died, we will never get the follow up series about Mat kicking ass in Seanchan.

I've been super pumped about a lot of video games lately, but none of them have really been slayers.

I'm sad about my handle, because as an adult, I can see that Pierce Anthony is kind of a weird misogynist.  I didn't realize that shit when I was like 13, yo.

I like Java more than C++, but they're both fun.

I continue to struggle with my alcoholism.  I've been doing a lot better lately, but shit yo, it can be tough.

Uhm, what else.  My older sister just had her first kid and I'm the godfather, that's kinda fun;  I've come to the conclusion that the only reason I like one of the major US political parties more than the other is because I am of the opinion that one happens to be more hypocritical;  I think my gums are receding because I abuse my vaporizer so much.

So how is life treating you cats?
