Op-Ed by Craig Ferguson.

Excerpt -

So the deification of youth evolved, and turned into the deification of imbecility. It became fashionable to be young and to be stupid. And that grew, and that grew, and that grew, and now that's what all the kids want to be. "I just want to be young and stupid!" But you know what? That's not what you want to be. You do not want to be young and stupid.

Unwashed Village / Write up for my first Bloodbowl league game
« on: July 27, 2009, 01:04:30 AM »
The game winner is expected to write up a summary and I just thought I'd share it.

A rabid crowd of fans gathered as the game was set to be a brutal one and they could sense the bloodshed before it even got under way. With a lucky call on the flip of the coin the orcs set to receive the ball.

Starting to setup a play along his left side of the field the orc coach had his greenies getting their blood up as they managed to knock around the Chaos players a good bit to start things out. Looking to gain back some ground the Chaos coach tried to pry a path through the greenskin line with his minotaur who stepped up to Gutfart the troll and unfortunately took a deep breath just before impact. The minotaur succumbed to Gutfart's odor and fell to the ground ending the Chaos turn prematurely.

Seizing on the opportunity the greenskins quickly ran down the field for an early score and a 1-0 lead. Unfortunately Gutfart was taken down by a good team effort from the Chaos players and the orcs would have to play without him for the rest of the half.

After the kickoff there was a bitter and bloody fight for control of the line again. Some greenskins got free in the Chaos backfield and thought they had the beastman runner caught but he used his agility to get by them and launch a perfect pass into his receiver's waiting hands in the end zone on the very last play of the half. The score was tied 1-1!

The second half proved to be quite the mess as apparently Gutfart sat on the ball during halftime. This caused it to be more slippery than a greased squig and the Chaos runner dropped the kickoff. The orcs rushed in to try and put the game away but the ball managed to squirt free of players on both teams over and over again. The only thing giving the orcs any hope was that each time someone dropped it it managed to move a little closer to the Chaos end zone. When the game was almost over the orcs finally managed to pick up the ball and had only a short distance to run in for the score giving them a 2-1 lead.

Lacking time for any real scoring chance the two teams just went out for blood. The Chaos players tried to isolate Gutfart to pay him back for greasing the ball. They didn't manage to harm him though and on the orc's last turn they managed to turn the tables on the minotaur and give him a good stomping to end the game.

Unwashed Village / Good grief, what a pain in the rear
« on: July 23, 2009, 01:54:14 AM »
The last couple of weeks I've been getting progressively worse problems with Firefox all of a sudden becoming unable to connect to anything. There would still be a process for it running and Vista would NOT end the process or the process tree for it. Also, the machine wouldn't reset through the menu because of that Firefox still running. I'd have to go over and hit the reset button.

The last couple of days it's gotten really bad. So I started searching around for others having the issue. I finally tracked down some message board threads that had narrowed it down to the latest version of Zonealarm. As of a few minutes ago, I've uninstalled it and I'll see now if I get the same issue. I had even uninstalled Firefox and tried using IE (ugh, I weep for those still using that piece of poop) but that started having the same issues.

The only other thing I've seen suggested is that it could be malware. However several AV programs were listed that would find it, I downloaded one of them, and it found nothing.

So if this is happening to you and you have ZA, try removing that first.

Unwashed Village / Ordered a new system
« on: June 26, 2009, 06:28:00 PM »
Been saving up for quite a while and got a nice Christmas gift from my Aunt to help out. The sudden price drop at Digital Storm helped too. I assume there's some new tech on the way that caused the drop in price which makes me really glad I waited a bit. I had targeted a system that wasn't nearly this good for about $150 more before the prices were cut.

Specs -

System Configuration:
Chassis Model: Special Deal Hot Seller - Antec Nine Hundred Two
Processor: Intel Core i7 920 2.66GHz (Quad Core)
Motherboard: Intel X58 Chipset (Features: 6 Memory Slots, Firewire, eSATA, Gigabit LAN)
System Memory: 3GB DDR3 1333MHz Digital Storm Certified by mushkin enhanced (Highly Recommended) (Hand Tested)
Power Supply: 750W PC Power & Cooling (Dual SLI Compatible) (Silencer Edition)
Hard Drive Set 1: Operating System: 1x (500GB Western Digital (16MB Cache) (7200 RPM) (SATA)
Video Card(s): 1x NVIDIA GeForce GTX 275 896MB (Includes PhysX Technology)
Sound Card: 7.1 24-bit / 192kHz Decoding High Definition Integrated Audio
Windows OS: Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium (64-Bit Edition) With Windows 7 Upgrade Coupon

The only thing I'll have to upgrade fairly soon is the amount of memory. I should be golden for any games released in the next 2-3 years now.  8)

Had a guild member of mine in beta but he is afk for a couple of weeks on a road trip. I'll ask him how it was when he gets back. I need to wait on anymore purchases for a bit anyway as I just ordered my new system.

Unwashed Village / And so ended the great beard experiment of '09
« on: June 23, 2009, 07:53:56 PM »
It's been in the 90s the last two weeks here. I couldn't stand it anymore and shaved by beard back to it's normal length. It was clear I was never going to get ZZTop length anyway.   :)

From the minute Colby saw the previews to the Disney-Pixar movie Up, she was desperate to see it. Colby had been diagnosed with vascular cancer about three years ago, said her mother, Lisa Curtin, and at the beginning of this month it became apparent that she would die soon and was too ill to be moved to a theater to see the film.

After a family friend made frantic calls to Pixar to help grant Colby her dying wish, Pixar came to the rescue.
