Unwashed Village / Vicious SPAM bot attack
December 22, 2020, 10:16:59 PM
Good news everyone!

We've had another spam attack. More precautions have been taken to ensure it'll be 2 hours longer before it happens again.

Hoopy was kind enough to help delete some of posts, and I have deleted all users without any posts. Unfortunately, this may also include legitimate users - in which case they'll need to register again.

E.A.R.L.'s defensive systems have been upgraded, and I've hired the only thing I could afford as extra protection: a relatively ill-tempered squirrel.

Unwashed Village / PANIC!
November 20, 2018, 08:54:17 PM
Or don't panic, whatever.

Our hosts over at one.com has pushed all their customers onto PHP 7.2. We were running an older version. Due to this, the site has been displaying a 500 error recently.

I have temporarily rolled us back to PHP 5.2, and I am upgrading the SMF forum software now. After this, I will roll back to the latest stable PHP version and everything should hopefully be hunkydory again.

Otherwise, I would urge you to panic.

Unwashed Village / Vile, nasty spammer attack
December 04, 2014, 08:26:25 PM
As none of you have noticed, the forum has been down for half of the day due to our ISP shutting us down due to spammer attacks.

E.A.R.L. has been installed, and the main exhaust port blocked by X-Wing debris.

Ok, so we are getting hundreds of new members every week. This is all good, but none of these members are actual people; they are bots wanting to sell us time share apartments and prescription drugs.

So, as a safety measure, we will need some random questions that anyone can answer, but are difficult for bots to parse. Please fire away, and I'll add them to the cycle of questions for new members.

A few examples:

'To prove you are not a bot, type 'rutabaga' in the answer field.'
'In what year did the second World War end?'
'What is the name of the prequel to Fallout 2? (lower case)'

Well.. Actually good news ;)

My fiance gave birth to a baby girl, and I now the proud father of a 3600g milk to weird yellow poop conversion machine.

Now, I have 15 years to take a hunting license and even less time to find out which would be the funniest thing to intentionally mis-teach her.

TL;DR: Yay!

Unwashed Village / Life is awesome and awful
August 29, 2012, 01:51:54 AM
I haven't really told anybody about this, but by the marvelous powers of internet semi-anonymity, this seems like a good place to unload my mind.

First of all, my girlfriend through 7 years is pregnant. This time everything is looking well. Last time ended in a very early miscarriage. I'm very much looking forward to being a father.

But speaking of fathers, mine is dying, 68 years old. Within the same week I found out I was going to be a father, I also found out that my own father has bladder cancer. It has spread to the lymph nodes and the pelvis, and doctors have already told us that the chemotherapy, he will receive will only be to prolong his life. There is no hope of a cure.

By some bizarre twist of fate, there is a risk that my son will never meet his grandfather - and that even if he does, he will never be able to remember him.

I literally have no idea how to feel right now.

I figured this was something many people would consider a worthy cause.. I know I will be supporting it.

Unwashed Village / New Puppy!
March 04, 2012, 12:36:40 PM
So a couple of months ago, we had to put down Maggie, our miniature Dachshund. But last tuesday, we got a new puppy:

Revel in its cuteness!

Anyway, Jack Russels are feisty lil' critters. Not much sleep she's been doing so far, but her cuteness more than makes up for it.

Unwashed Village / Forum upgraded to SMF 2.0
August 08, 2011, 11:32:04 PM
In case you (Bluecross) hadn't noticed, I have upgraded the forum.

This is a major upgrade. Currently, it has whatever settings are default/transferred from the old board. So give it a spin, and let me know if something isn't quite the way you like it.

And since the old themes probably won't work, feel free to suggest a (SMF 2.0 compatible) skin from: http://custom.simplemachines.org/themes/.

I've been brewing on a game for a while now.. And I've finally gotten the time to start working on it again.

Sadly, it seems that many Villagers have dissapeared in the mean time, but I'll ask those that are left these questions three:

1. Does anyone mind if I create a PC game using the Unwashed Village as a central motiff?
2. Does anyone mind if I use their alter egos in it?

EDIT: I had originally written my plan for the game here, but I thought it would be a lot more fun to get everyones opinions.

3. What would the game The Unwashed Village be like?

I want to make a game in the spirit of the Unwashed Village at it's peak. Now, in order to keep this within the realm of possibility it, can't be World of Warcraft or Fallout 3. Otherwise, please brainstorm with me..

So this 3 year old kid, 'Holger' was at a boyscouting trip with his family deep in the woods near my home town when he disappeared.

Basically, hundreds of people helped look for the kid, who was missing for more than 24 hours in what in some places could only be described as a swamp.

But the most funny thing about this otherwise happy story: 'Holger' is the danish name for 'Waldo'.

Unwashed Village / Cookie problem solved
March 14, 2011, 11:28:32 PM
After having me confused for a very long time, I think I have solved the cookie problem. If you have the forum bookmarked (or stored in your browser history) as www.unwashed.eu/forum/ ... simply remove the www and everything should work again.

I will leave this thread here with a link from the welcome page (now restored) so people can post ideas on how we can increase the activity level of the UV. Please post any suggestions you have below. I am willing to put some hours into bringing our online presence up to date, but I need input from the community.

Unwashed Village / Is everyone ok in New Zealand?
February 22, 2011, 09:26:51 AM
I can't remember if any lives in or near Christchurch, but I hope nothing has happening to our Kiwis or their families or friends..

I've updated the board to the latest version. I've also discovered that our cookies expire after 60 minutes*. I've changed this to a month.

* which means that you will not have any cookies to while you watch undercover boss**

** Yes, I actually looked up the CBS schedule to make that joke.

Unwashed Village / Problems logging in?

Is the board just moving even more slowly than normal, or do people have problems logging in?

If so, please email me at boardproblems@rsens.dk

Unwashed Village / Board Moved
June 25, 2010, 09:40:30 PM
I have moved the board to our new host (host.com). The old host has gone out of business. In fact, if I had been a day later, we wouldn't have been able to access our posts.

There might be some configuration problems with our new host, so if you have any problems, let me know.

I have just ordered a new webhotel for our site/forum. Our old hosts are going out of business due to fraud, so I am trying to move the domain and hotel to a new domain.

Just to be sure, I am taking a backup today of all posts and files.

Someone has "stolen" unwashed.org, so looks like we will stick to unwashed.eu for a while longer.

Anyway, act normal, but be warned that there might be a few days downtime - and if our current hosts start making trouble, we might have to get a new domain (suggestions welcome) and we might lose posts.

Unwashed Village / Which domain did we have before?
June 16, 2010, 10:18:58 PM
Does anyone remember what domain we had before unwashed.eu? Was it unwashed.org?

(I'm thinking about switching hosts again as the current one has turned sour - they keep charging my visa for stuff I never ordered - small amounts, but out of prinicple, I'm switching)

Unwashed Village / Well, there goes the climate deal
December 19, 2009, 01:05:08 AM
So it seems from local media (not international mind you) that COP15 was a huge failure. Seems Obama flew home thinking he'd gotten everyone to agree, but as it seems now, the EU and the G77 countries can't really agree to the current treaty. Man, sometimes I wish the World wasn't run by politicians.

Seriously, a non-binding agreement that doesn't even take us where the UN recommends we should be? That's it?

Meh, I hope it's just the wake of the financial crisis that makes World leaders not want to take part in this agreement.
