Title: World Travel
Post by: KMD on February 25, 2011, 07:09:32 PM
So, in a couple of months i'm going to Japan, probably in the south Kyoto, to travel for a year or so without very much money at all. Never been outside of the U.S. Meaning that i'll have to do a lot of preparing etc. Kind of my rebellious trip while I take a break from school. I don't expect much, just to get a feel for what else is out there.

A new topic. Where would you like to go anywhere in the world? Or what is your favorite memory of a place you've traveled before?

Not having traveled much, my favorite traveling memory was going to visit family alone in New Hampishire (the US state) two summers ago. It was a hell of a trip, and the New England coast is quite different from the Midwest. The plane ride there was hell, I went surfing for the first time (in frigid water), Saw Paul Mcartney perform in Fenway park in Boston and partied with rockstars at a private party afterwards, and had fresh Maine lobster at a beachhouse at sunset.

What are your all favorite memories/dreams?

I'm just not really sure why I ever left Tuscany.

I really want to go back up to Montana.  I've been waiting to get things a bit more stable but as soon as i can i'm just jumping in the car and going for awhile.  From what I've been told there are people up there who are getting older who really want to see me again before they go.  I'm trying to accommodate that wish and possibly get to know who my mom was a bit more.  Besides, I've seen the pictures of flathead lake and the cabin where we lived; the view is astounding.

India.

Bangalore and it's environs. I was there for a wedding of a friend last June.

I have never had food the like of what you get in Southern India. They use very little meat, but you will not miss it. Every thing is an explosion of taste. They take dishes made with inexpensive ingredients and create combinations of flavors that are the epitome of what food should be.

And assuming my girlfriend and I get married and go on a honeymoon, we're planning on hiking up Machu Picchu.

She also has a family friend who owns a vacation cottage in Tuscany. We have discussed going there some day as well.

And then there's the Netherlands. My girlfriend was submitted by her international law studies professor for one of 7 fellowships on the U.S. side of the International Court at The Hague. Around 10,000 people are submitted for applying. 200 make the short list. She currently is on the short list. It's still unlikely, but I might be spending 2 years in the Netherlands (Hi, Shadowman) starting later this year.

i went to germany with my family a couple years ago and there was a castle along the rhine river that i fell in love with. if i have the chance i would love to get married there, but i know that's probably not going to happen. instead we'll probably end up in japan for a honeymoon. outside of that i'm not sure how much traveling we'll be able to afford. i would love to go on an alaskan cruise, but dont know when that will happen.
