After hearing that it wouldn't be bad "this time", I decided to just go into the store and get the new 3GS phone. Well... all the stores I went to were out. I could just order online but I want to make sure that everything is ok before I purchase it.
eg. Is the data plan price I have in mind "real", can I actually add this phone, etc.
So does anyone know of a inventory locater for iPhones? The one at apple.com doesn't seem to work for me.
-
Dunno, but if you get one, please let me know how the Tom-Tom navigation works as the old one (or lack thereof) was horrible.
I'm considering upgrading my 1st gen. iPhone.

I heart my iphone - i dont know how i ever lived without it!

I've an iPhone 3G 16GB that I've had for several months now.
Given the eye-watering prices of the 3GS handset even with the contract, I'm sodding glad I didn't wait for it. There's just not enough difference between the 2 to justify that sort of expense.
-
I was going to look at getting a 3G but instead of being the $199 they advertised if you were 'under contract' it was $299 for me. Meh.. ill have to wait.

I'm eligible for an upgrade and I'm already signed up with AT&T so I just went with the 3GS iPhone. There's one already in our house (3G) so I figure having two iPhones is probably best. "Hey look at this cool new application I found! Now we can BOTH have it."
If there's a problem with how to do something, we'll there's a chance one of us has figured it out already.
So, I got the 16 gig model. I didn't need 32 gigs of space.
They're currently out but I might get it in 5 days but it might take 10 days at the latest.
-
See.. im eligable for an upgrade too but I went into an AT&T store to see how much it'd cost. If it was $199 I woulda accepted it but they wanted to charge $299

Strange. It was $199 for me (Plus tax).

$299 is for the 32gig one, the 16gig is $199.
which I bought last week and am awaiting it's arrival. ;)
-
That's what I thought too but they checked everything and said it'd cost me $299 for the small one.

After I pre ordered the iPhone, I saw a link on Digg.
"Trouble finding a iPhone? Use this handy dandy locator to check the inventory of iphone 3GS's in your area."
I saw it one day after making the pre payment. OH well....
Yes I checked for similar links before making the pre payment.

I just upgraded my 1st generation to the 3.0 fw, and I think I won't be getting a 3GS anyway. There's not really much incentive anymore - it's still very expensive for a phone here, and all I'd be getting is the GPS, compass and improved speed.
If I ever need a GPS, I'll probably get one though, but the 3.0 fw has removed many of the annoyances I had with the old one. I now have ÆØÅ on my keyboard without having to hold down a button, I can send MMS's, and copy/paste.
I still wonder why Apple would claim that the 1st gen iPhone can't send MMS's "due to hardware issues' when I'm running Apple's own MMS application fine from my 1st gen handset. Awful customer service, apple :(

I'll Likely be flayed and salted for this.....
But I hate smart phones. :inquisitive:
All I see people do with them is text constaly, yap into headsets and ignore people, and wash, rinse, repeat...... Always texting (I hate texting with a passion aswell) and head sets on ANY phone these days really,
But it seems like a phenominal waste with something like a smart phone. its supposed to "do" stuff.
So what USEFUL purpose do they have in YOUR lives? not all this "Its checks email and texts and is a PHONE!" ( ::) ) I keep getting......
-
This will be my first smart phone so there's some assumption on my part of what I will do with it.
So far I use it to navigate directions with google maps.
Alleviate boredom by surfing the web, listening to music/audio book, and playing games.
What I hoping to use it for is a connection to my e-mails and business. So if I'm not around the computer for a few hours, I can check my e-mail and respond to a customer.
I don't always have my camera with me but I like having the camera phone so I can take pictures if needed.
So for me it's a connection to my business and a way to pass time.

I'm still getting used to the iPhone. Ya know... I'm not a 86 year old grandmother amazed at the remote or a non techie but it feels like I'm holding something out of the future. I love this phone!
The real time GPS is really neat! =) I can follow the blue dot on the maps as I follow directions or just press a button and find the nearest gas station (without manually entering my address). The audio searches are great. It's got a 90% successful rate with my google searches. Perhaps it needs to get use to my voice? But one of the few errors was this:

Darn, I get my iPhone and the new ones come out.
Aren't they beautiful? I love the design and the sheer elegance.
