Warhammer Online NDA = lifted
« on: August 19, 2008, 10:38:47 PM »
Prepare for a crap storm. I'm running out for food but will be back later to post my thoughts about the game thus far.

Anyone else been testing?

I could probably type for an hour about everything that's both right and wrong with this game but the short story is that it's another unfinished MMO that's being rushed out the door by an overzealous publisher. Despite Mythic's claims to the contrary this early release has EA written all over it. The classes aren't balanced yet, the classes that were taken out in order to get this early release done are missed for RvR balance, there are still a large number of bugs, animation and art work still need to be done, and not enough time has been spent testing a lot of the content. All of these things and more have caused me to cancel my collector's edition order.

On the good side there's RvR which is very fun if you can manage to not crash to desktop in large fights, siege warfare is a bit buggy but fun, taking keeps and battle objectives is fun, and having collision in RvR allows for some really cool things. We took a keep and fought off a larger number of Destruction from inside by putting our Ironbreakers (tank class) in the doorway when they took the gate down. They couldn't get beyond our IBs and our ranged folks took them down. It was one of the most memorable moments I've ever had in an MMO. PvE is interesting to a point. Loot tables definitely need work but the PQ (public quest) system is rather nice. It allows you to take part in large quests without actually being grouped. All they require is that other players are working on them at the same time. Some PQs require just a few players to finish and some require 12 or more. All of these things and more kept me from not getting the game at all. After I canceled my CE I got a regular pre-order.

If anyone has any questions feel free to ask. There are certain things I still can't talk about under the NDA but most of it is ok now.

Here's a pic of some of us in a PQ where we have to kill a giant at the end. It's a low level PQ that's pretty fun.

Eh, I've got a level 8 marauder.
Currently the quests seem to give me the feeling that you already know what to do before you've done them.
But thats the only thing that irks me. Everything else is beta and will be improved.

I'm gonna wait before I spend money on this. I have fallout 3 to buy >.>

And on top of everything else that's already been mentioned, there's Gears of War 2 to be had as well.

Here's a nicely written fair assessment of WO in its current state
