Famous Almost-Last Words

Have you ever been involved in an 'incident' in which you thought you might die?  If so, what were your thoughts at that time?

I remember once while driving on an icy road, I badly lost control of my truck (and am reminded of that every time I drive by that corner, which is usually several times a month).

My almost-last thought was (seriously!):

"I sure hope these airbags work."

I'm not that into talking about it at length, but but several years ago a misguided young man killed 31 people and took his own life at Tech.  I was in the building when that happen.  I primarily remember thinking "fuck fuck fuck shit I don't want to die fuck shit fuck".

I did manage to stay between a female friend of mine and the bullets, but fuck, I was shitting myself.

edit:  He took 33 lifes overall; I don't mean to disregard the souls lost on the other side of the campus.

I think none of us can follow that, so I'll just say I'm glad you're alive, man. I didn't know you were there when it happened.

One-shotted by a frost breath from the Tarrasque, of course. With cold resist. I think that thing has beat me every time Ive found it, usually with one or two breaths.

Motorbikes, I used to have very little regard for my own safety and crazy friends.  I nearly came off the back of a bike at 145MPH, I was holding on to the bars behind me and my friend was hunkered down, I was thinking 'don't give way, don't give way' then my right elbow bent, my leg brushed my friends and he put the brakes on.  'My god I'm still alive!, incredible' was my next thought. I've never felt quite alive.  Can't count the amount of other times I've almost came off the back of a bike, might explain why I've never ridden a bike myself.

Looking back it was so scary.
