There seems to be a major hole in my Anglophiliaism...
« on: April 29, 2011, 08:29:50 PM »
I just read the following:

"Prince William has been made Duke of Cambridge, and his wife the Duchess of Cambridge, Buckingham Palace has said.  The prince has also taken the titles Earl of Strathearn and Baron Carrickfergus, linking him to Scotland and Northern Ireland."

And this:

"While the Prince of Wales did not take any additional titles when he married Lady Diana Spencer in 1981, he was already Prince of Wales, the Duke of Cornwall, Duke of Rothesay, Earl of Carrick, Baron of Renfrew, Lord of the Isles and Prince and Great Steward of Scotland and Earl of Chester."

So perhaps I'm a bit naive, but all this... stuff...   is important?

"for the record, I'm not some kind of psychotic provincialist." - Than (ed: Cit. required)
"I lost my game of NT: Garry's fault. Global warming: Garry's fault. End-of-the-Universe: Garry's fault. See it always fits. Anyway, what is Garry up to? No good I bet." - Laszlo
"As for your French, it's probably better than the average English-speaking Frenchman's Finnish! (Or something.)" - wa
"I'm back at Thunderfalls now and every minute thinking of poking a bandit in the eye with a fishhook." - Preyveil

To some.

I've always been "meh" about the royals. Granted, it seems Elizabeth has finally pulled the stick out of her ass about her descendants marrying non-nobles (there's a reason Charles married Di, and it wasn't for love), which is a good thing, but I've never understood the Brits' fascination with the whole business, and am truly confused by the Americans that get into it.
All right, I’ve been thinking, when life gives you lemons, don’t make lemonade! Make life take the lemons back! Get mad! I don’t want your damn lemons! What am I supposed to do with these? Demand to see life’s manager! Make life rue the day it thought it could give Cave Johnson lemons! Do you know who I am? I’m the man whose gonna burn your house down – with the lemons! I'm gonna get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down!

I thought it was funny that Seinfeld got in hot water for saying what he said about the royals while he was over there. Our Brit UVers can correct me if I'm wrong but it seemed like if a Brit comedian would have said it everyone would have laughed and nodded their heads but because it was an outsider everyone circled the wagons and acted offended.

*shrug* Maybe I'm wrong though?
