Yeah, I don't really know what to do either.

Night Owl pretty much answered it a while back. Back in the 90's the Unwashed Village was a sort of gathering place. A place where people could post interesting things and talk about it. Now it's just one of many places.

If I want to read what's new I go to Reddit or any other number of sites. Right there that takes care of some of the coolness.

Now it's just a bunch of people that know each other. That's awesome but there's no incentive for new people to join.

I guess just post more. =)
Will I get Night Owl points for quitting but not as much for getting fired?
Will I still be a member of the Owl's Pals? I'd hate to turn in my card. It's got a real owl feather under the lamination and everything.

Night Owl: Oh, indeed. I quit many a job ...better than being fired. You can keep your card... in fact, you get double points for quitting!

I'm big fan of first two fallout games. this is my first post here. Its very fun to read this forum but for newcomers(like me), its feels strange to intervene the ongoing conversations even it isnt. thats what hits me firstly. I may find solutions but god I'm newbie..

We have ongoing conversations?
All right, I’ve been thinking, when life gives you lemons, don’t make lemonade! Make life take the lemons back! Get mad! I don’t want your damn lemons! What am I supposed to do with these? Demand to see life’s manager! Make life rue the day it thought it could give Cave Johnson lemons! Do you know who I am? I’m the man whose gonna burn your house down – with the lemons! I'm gonna get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down!

Maybe... there's snow in the mountains of Vegas right now. And it's in the 80's down here in the Valley.

I was thinking about this. One of the things that I used to love was the feeling that there was a Village. We used to talk about the locations in the Village, like the bar, Weasel's lab that sort of thing. Stories seemed to almost pop out of that image because it was easy to relate to.

I'd suggest two things in that light. The first is to do a write up on where the village came from, who it was and how it evolved into what it is now. More than that, let people know what we stand for - I like Doomsie's comments in the Facebook thread about why she didn't want the Village on FB. It made sense to me.

The other is redefine the village as a fictional location. Even create a document that lists the locations and if anyone is feeling creative perhaps even have a map or rough layout. That might even help Chucara's game idea because if we all have a similar idea of the village then it will feel more natural. Let each Villager define their own building or collaborate to develop some common buildings.

I guess when there is a basic layout, you can then evolve that into a logo/poster type idea..... Oh my, I am getting carried away.

I put dibs on the unwashed fire station!

The fire station burned down.

I was going to suggest trying some multiplayer or something that you could play casual like without too much of a hassle, but couldn't really come up with any suitable game. Hell, just about the only multiplayers that I know these days are MMO's... Kind of...disturbing, really.

You should discover the wonder that is Team Fortress 2. Even when you suck, it's still fun if you get in with the right bunch of people.

I heard there is a fallout online coming one day but... I don't know anymore if they will Finnish it.
The sun beyond the mountain glows
The yellow river seaward flows
You can enjoy a grander sight
By climbing to a greater height

I have run out of places to climb. I will abandon this body and take to the air. We will leave twin vapor trails in the air, white lines etched into these rocks. I am the aerial. In my passing, I will send news to each and every star.

Mrs Brown says: 'Hapiness is an effect, not a goal.'

Charlie is yelling @barit0wned
PC: A spider laid eggs inside my body and I need to get them out before they hatch
DM: You'll need the spider's permission first...

Good point Varag. I haven't hung from the chandelier at the Bastard Bar in years. I always thought it was b/c of my age. lol!

First of all... this here is probably a good idea... this thread i mean.
I say this not just because it could provide genuinely revitalising ideas but also because frankly, I just skimmed the last few pages of posts, and it was downright depressing.
True enough, that may be because Im still recovering from BC's "metaphor" prose  :'( - But really, it felt like I was reading the death rattles of someone I love. I agree that the fun of the village was the humour and fiction... so why did I find it so heavily outweighed by the morose sobbing about days gone by?

Secondly, I dont think gimmicks work. A game, or a map, or what have you is great. But that's the kind of thing people should be doing as par for course, rather than using them in a concious effort to bring back a dead zeitgeist.

Yes. Dead... Zeitgeist. I dunno the average reading level of the current members, so I'll explain.
Zeitgeist is a word meaning the spirit of an age, and to paraphrase the Hagakure, it is not wise for one to wish they were in a different time, but rather to make the most of what (or when) they have.

So... with that being said, in the interest of getting people back in the hype...
I notice a distinct lack of turjans and lerks... I therefore offer my services as an illustrator to aid in whatever village-projects people decide are worthy of pusuing.

First of all...

I'm not convinced that you can be morose and sobbing at the same time.
