Title: so i'm thinking.....
Post by: AcdQueen89 on October 28, 2007, 03:58:26 AM
of becoming a vegetarian. not on an anti-cruelty to animal kick. i'm just kind of sick of meat. i dont eat much red meat as it is. i dont think that i've eaten ribs at a restaurant in years, and dont eat too much when they're made at home. this also isnt a sudden urge. i've been toying with the idea for a long time.

i just want to know if there is anyone here who is a vegetarian, or is incredibly against the idea in general or what.

i'm also very tired right now, so i do not know why i am typing this. i guess i'll find out in the morning.

I had Prime Rib tonight. One of those that's about an inch and a half thick, and just about fills your plate. My god, was that good.

I'm sorry, but there's nothing on the vegetarian menu that even remotely competes.

My parents are both vegetarians *most* of the time. I eat enough meat for all three of us though.  8)

I just enjoy it to much to give it up. I get as upset as anyone else at the stories of people stomping on chickens in the chicken plants and such though. Well maybe not since certain crazies compare that to Nazi death camps. *ahem* Still I'd like the animals to be treated as humanely as possible before they're slaughtered for my dinner.  ;D

I see it as the Circle of Life (Lion King ftw!). I'm an omnivore, so I eat everything. What's more; our bodies are made for eating meat and plants, int hat we need certain amino acids from both parties to survive.

If you go through with it, well, that's up to you. Also depends how much you will be? Only fish/chicken or no meat at all? What about eggs, milk and such? In the end, you need to remember that you need a balanced diet with a lot of tofu, beans and such to give you the nutrients that meat is usually the sole supplier of. And if you do enjoy the occasional piece of meat, why restrict yourself? Eat what you like. I have salad-weeks myself where I'm pretty much a vegetarian and others where I eat half a cow in 48 hours.

Vegetarian works for some people.
Not for me. I like meat.
Especially breast meat :D

So I guess sushi is out for you.  Anyway, want to be a vegetarian?  Move here.  Since meat prices have gone up, there are a lot more veggies around here( and I don't mean just the people).   :P

Hows this for classic: I don't like rice. I'm not a fan of fish. And yet, I want to visit Japan >.<

My flatmate is a vegetarian. His reason? He doesn't like the taste or smell of meat.
Fair enough. More for me XD

Maybe Bruggie could answer this. If God didn't want us to eat animals then why are they so (slurp) tasty?

I love meat. =) Well... only from the non cute animals. Lobsters look like Fallout Monsters so I can eat those. I can't eat a kitten.

However, I like veggies too. Sample meals for me are:

Steak along with some broccoli and corn.
Mushroom chicken with mushrooms and carrots.
Fish and a vegetable medley.

I love kittens, but I couldn't eat a whole one. >.>

We got my daughter a 'Pet Cookbook' once.  It had very cool recipes in it like 'Kitten Crunch' and 'Rib of Rover'.  She thought it was great but was afraid to show it to her friend.

BBQ Muttloaf and Clawdead Gumbo are some of my favorites. Kitty Kassarole is favored by many.

I assume you are referencing shellfish, pork, etc that the Jews were told not to eat? I'm not sure why those restrictions existed but they were lifted off of christians through Peter who had a vision from the Holy Spirit about it. It's likely that those foods that were referred to as "unclean" were on the list not to eat because...well...they were unclean. I mean a lobster is basically a roach of the sea when you think about it. Going to be eating any roaches anytime soon?  ;)

Oh... =)  I was giving a humorous rational for eating meat. eg. If God didn't want us to enjoy the succulent taste of prime rib it would have tasted like poo.

I still want those animals from 'The Restaurant from the End of the Universe' that want to be eaten. That way I get full and I make a creature happy.

Ah well in that case the answer is easy. God did want us to eat those animals and that's why He made them tasty.

It makes it taste even better now. =)

On a serious note. I think Eating veggies is good but I think a varied diet is more successful. I'm sure it's possible to exist just one veggies but you need to do proper research to make sure you're getting nutrients normally found in meat. Because of that, some people don't follow a 'proper' veggie lifestyle and end up being sick since their body is missing out.

I still remember my old boss from the Welfare Department who raved about the benefits of the Veggie lifestyle. He was always sick from colds, flu or whatever and he looked like death warmed over.

Not a good endorsement.

Other veggie lovers that I've know always seem sick.

*shrug*

I think probably the optimum for our health is to eat far more grain than we do these days and less meat. Though meat should be part of the diet for the protein and such that it provides.

it exists due to how the animal is killed, i think. there are procedures that one is supposed to follow to kill an animal and prepare it for human consumptions. one idea that i think they hold to severely is that nothing from the hindquarters is supposed to be used and then there are restrictions on the leg meat that is allowed to be used. i guess it comes down to dont eat ass or feet.

A couple of scientists (forensic archaeologists I think) discovered that the pigs around that time were quite badly diseased. Eating their meat would have made humans sick and more than likely kill them. Somebody probably saw this as punishment from God for eating the poor widdle piggy and thus pork = bad.

Heh. One of my friends is Jewish (he even has the callsign Teh J00) and he eats bacon. Not ham, not pork, just bacon. When people asked about it, he either says something like "Bacon isn't pork." or "But it tastes so goood! it can't be bad." :P

I don't think "I don't each much meat anyway" is really that good a reason to become a vegetarian. I mean it's not like the other kids will think you're really cool cause you are.

If you don't like meat, just eat less of it.

I couldn't possibly imagine why though. First of all, I could for an hour straight without getting full if I were to eat just salad. Second, MEAT GOOD!

dont worry chuccy, i've decided against it. i dont eat enough veggies.

i think it came from a random moment of depression and feeling fat. and i dont eat mushrooms and my school uses alot of them in both veggie and non veggie foods. so that cuts being vegetarian here for the most part unless i eat pasta all the time. i've realized that i'm just gonna cut beef.
