Man, if that wasn't the saddest, lamest excuse I have ever heard.

Yea, that was a pretty pathetic excuse, Inso. *Had* to go to Grandma's? The kid who cuts my lawn *has* to go to grandma's. He's 12.

You will never live this down. It's like Max with Dance Dance Revolution. He could become president, and I'll still remind him of that (actually, that will keep him from becoming president.)

They sell a sort of sand that kills ants by cutting them up (it's like pool filter sand), and should be safe for your dog.

I'ver read that oatmeal will also kill them by expanding in their bodies - may want to read up on that.

Been watching alot of movies recently, on account of the immobility of course.  Here is the best of what I have watched:

Shame - Ingmar Bergman
Brazil - Terry Gilliam
Mystery Train - Jim Jarmusch
Belle de Jour - Luis Bunuel
The King of Comedy - Martin Scorcese (I found this one particularly good)
Nashville - Robert Altman

I have been enjoying a great deal of Fellini as well.  Amarcord was fantastic.

you have good taste.

If you haven't yet, I recommend "The Virgin Spring" and "The Seventh Seal" (both Bergman)

Fellini is exceptional as well. 8 1/2 is probably his best (although a bit surreal.)

   5. Any major city has at least one "Ressurect-a-matic" on every street corner.

   8. The party is dividing treasure. The fighter says "Ok, who wants the staff of the magi? Anybody? Anyone at all? Ok, we leave it leaning against a tree stump."

these basically were the norm in our early campaigns.

I disagree with most of your 'bad' analysis, Owl.

After playing it again (and again), I have to say, I disagree with myself as well.

Yes, I *was* expecting more of a "creep" game (like SS2, which was "barely" a shooter.) This is definitely more "shooter" than SS2. That's why my initial reactions were what they were.

But after more time with it, I've decided that yes, this is a buy.

This is why I don't review games for a living. My initial impressions are sometimes way off.

Ok, here are a few impressions:  (note, I have since revised my impressions in another post, so feel free to ignore the initial impressions of someone who really wanted this to be SS3, was disappointed with that at first, then learned to live with it.)

Good: Very creepy... for awhile,

interesting location,

nice graphics (looks great on my 1080p LCD),

"powers" are cool (setting people on fire is fun!)

Beginning of the game and going to the "Rapture" place was neat (really had my hopes up, as the first five minutes are cool.)

Bad:

I really feel like they are trying to do "too much". It seemed like they crammed a surprise every 8 feet. I don't think this was a "stand alone" or "middle of the game" demo - I think this was the start to the game, so I have to think the actual game is "chock full of so many surprises you won't be surprised" too. To be honest, it reminded me of playing DnD at 12 - *every* room we went into *had* to have an encounter or something happening. Note to developers: It stops being creepy when you enter a room and say "ok, let's wait for the surprise".

It's also fairly linear. Wall of flames over here, small pile of debris that for some reason can't be moved over there... looks like I have to go this way...

In one room, without warning, I tripped an "alarm" which then procedes to send endless waves of flying gunships at you while a VERY annoying (and loud) alwarm beeps. They even have a counter so you know how long this will last (60 EXTREMELY SLOW seconds)   I proceded to do this three times in a row - this is a TERRIBLY STUPID design decision. It's just... really fucking annoying. I don't play games to get annoyed. I hope there's way to shut this off or such - this would really, really suck if this was a gameplay element. Aside from the breaking guns, the alarms were the worst part of SS2.

My Verdict

Probably not a buy here until a big price drop or word of some decent multiplayer through XBL - 2-4 player co-op would be nice...

Downloading the demo right now on XBL. Maybe I can tear myself away from All Pro Football 2k8 long enough to actually play.

I have my eye on it, but I'll wait - from the videos, it just seems a little too "run and gun" for the SS2 comparisons it's getting. Might be fun multiplayer, though.

While it is true that many of the founding fathers were strongly religious,

Actually, I'm pretty sure that most weren't very religious. Very little mention of church / god / etc in any of their personal writings (not enough to make anyone think they were overly religious at all.) Of course, they lived at a time when religion was much more a fabric of day to day life, so they had that to contend with. The formality of much of the writing almost needs to mention divine this or god that.

But from what I can gather, I like to think most of them privately were very skeptical in regards to religion.

A similar movie, though completely unrelated to this thread, is Solaris.

which one?

I'm usually for the "a moment of silence"

me too - as long as it's only a moment. I have things to do.
