War Wound
« on: October 15, 2008, 10:12:55 PM »
Just giving you guys a heads up.... At 1015 hrs Zulu Time, my unit was sent in to investigate an explosion. What ended up happening is we walked into a trap. Five of us got wounded, including myself, though it could have been worse if our Interpreter hadn't tried to shove me out of the blast zone... which I only sustained a slight concussion, shrapnel to the right arm (got a small slither lodged in my forearm and assorted frag in my arm, wrist and shoulder)... and gash to the side of my head. Its been a busy day. Right now I am on rest and I can't say i can argue, since all the cutting they did on me to get that metal out of my body.

Safe to say folks I am fine... aside from being put in for a Purple Heart, I don't much care about that since one of my Sergeants, a guy whom I'd call friend and had 18 years in the army got wounded bad (but he'll be fine), I think i worried most for him. In the end my Battle Buddies showed all the training paid off. Everyone knew what to do and I was taken care of.

My feelings on the matter wasn't I was afraid... I think above all, I was angry. Anger gives some degree of control, but it also helps channel the fear. So aside from strong pain killers, I am fine. Though i have to wash the blood off my gear. But on the lighter side, I was given the slither of shrapnel as a momento.

Well I can safely say I have a war wound to go with the war stories. I have had some pretty close calls during my time in iraq, and they aren't over I guess till we're on the plane. Still thanks for the prayers.... I think in the end, that is what saved my bacon.

Good to hear that you and your unit are doing okay.
All right, I’ve been thinking, when life gives you lemons, don’t make lemonade! Make life take the lemons back! Get mad! I don’t want your damn lemons! What am I supposed to do with these? Demand to see life’s manager! Make life rue the day it thought it could give Cave Johnson lemons! Do you know who I am? I’m the man whose gonna burn your house down – with the lemons! I'm gonna get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down!

Purple Heart!

Cool but too bad you have to 'earn' them.  :ouch:

Nah, I am very mendible. It will take time, but I think the other wounded folks got the golden ticket home, I know for sure my Sergeant did. Either way had I been given the choice, I'd opt to stay. And I am staying. Got to see this to the end. Been in five major engagements since we been in Iraq, and I'd be damned if one gives me a yellow gut. I am alive, just need to heal and I am back in the fight.

Thanatos summed up my feelings pretty well. Thank God you and the men you were with are going to be ok. I keep the safe and quick return of all of you in my prayers and I hope each day is bringing that prayer closer to fruition.

*hugs*

Glad to hear you'll be ok.

I'm not sure that I agree with the war, but I always support the troops...  I would cower in the corner and cry like a girl if I were in your shoes.

No way I can read this and remain lurking.

Glad none of the guys were killed in that one.  Glad you were in good enough shape to tell us about it.  Just generally glad to hear from you.

Geez. What a story and REALLY glad you're ok.
Will I get Night Owl points for quitting but not as much for getting fired?
Will I still be a member of the Owl's Pals? I'd hate to turn in my card. It's got a real owl feather under the lamination and everything.

Night Owl: Oh, indeed. I quit many a job ...better than being fired. You can keep your card... in fact, you get double points for quitting!

I admit man I've been praying a lot for you guys, especially you (and ESPECIALLY after you showed us the bullet you dug out of the wall that narrowly missed you).

A buddy of mine over there just got back, we've been talking a lot about the craziness you guys are dealing with.

Stay safe, get back here safe and I'll buy ya a beer.

Or a nuka cola. Whichever you prefer.

Hmm. Explain a purple heart to me again. I forget. >.<

And to be honest, I wasn't worried at all. When I saw the title, I thought: "Did he slip and fall on routine maneuvers? Is he joking?" But yeah, I doubt you'd come back to the village to haunt us should the would have proved fatal.
Or would you? O.o
